Immunotherapy clinical trial!
I am starting a new thread because my dad is no longer going to be receiving docetaxel chemotherapy. His Foundation One genome testing returned this week. It showed ATM mutations, and he was referred to an immunotherapy clinical trial--a phase 2 trial where he will be receiving the trial drugs and not a placebo, to begin…

Glucose meters aka Glucometers
Hi there, Has anyone currently here tried a bit of freelance blood glucose management? I am thinking of buying a meter and logging my glucose and seeing how it changes. I can use a reference standard and my wife has agreed to periodic tests as well, she is a pretty rock solid fasting glucose standard so if the meter throws…

Time for next step...
This trip to Huntsman I had CT scan & bone scans. My PSA was 1.5 but the radiologist noticed 2 TINY new spots, one on the back of my 7th rib and one on my sternum. Dr. Agarwal said these are signs of disease progression and he took me off the TAK-700 study drug. He said the CT scans showed absolutely no soft tissue / organ…

Small increase in PSA
I had a radical prostectomy on May 19, 2017. My PSA scores since then have consisently been 0.01 (up through Dec. 2018) but my latest PSA from 7/9 was 0.04. How concerned should I be with that increase?

Post SRT failure :-(
My journey started in March of 2010 with RP with Dr. Catalona (age 54). Post RP I had an immediate 0.0 PSA for about 18 months (note: post RP Gleason 4+3, positive margins, SV involvement, neg lymph) and began to see a rise until it hit 0.5 in April of 2015. I had salvage RT with 6 months of Lupron that was concluded in…

Does Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) causes Dementia
Hi everyone, my father is on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) for more than 2 years, he is still good with his memory. I read this article Prostate Cancer Drug Linked To Increased Risk of Dementia, Finds Study. Has anyone faced this kind of issue by being on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT)?

Newly Diagnosed 3+3=6 and I am toatlly confused.
I recently underwent a TURP due to BPH. I have had several bouts of prostatis over the years and a bladder stone that had to be removed. After a year or two on flomax/finsteride I opted for a urolift to maintain body function. I got about three years out of it and was right back where I started. So, knowing what it would…

Issue with Electrolytes
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone with a history of HT/radiation treatments has experienced issues with low electrolyte levels as a result of their treatments. My most recent (June 2019) blood panel showed my sodium at 133 millimoles per liter. (Recommended minimum for my age group is 135 mmol/l) Not a cause for concern,…

Newly Diagnosed
Just found this website, and the wealth of info contained, in the past week. In March my family Dr. referred me to a local urology group after my annual bloodwork returned a PSA of 4.79. It had remained steady at 2.5 for several years. Three years ago it rose to 3.45 then 3.85 the following year. For whatever reason the…

Gleason 9 PSA 14 Advice
In October 2018, my father's PSA score was 9. After coming back to Ohio from spending the winter in Florida, he went to the same Urologist, and his PSA score was 14 in May 2019. His Urologist called for a 12-core biopsy, of which we received the results last week, with cancer being identified in all 12 cores. His Gleason…

Community Member Spotlight
Hey, I made the Community Member Spotlight for the Cancer Survivors Network. Not exactly the spotlight you want to make, but makes a good out of a bad. Kind of neat. As with all of us, hope our stories help each other. Anyway, my granddaughter thought that was interresting. Later.

BPH and Prostate Volume
So I like the idea of brachytherapy as a treatment option and had decided I would start treatment this coming fall but my urologist says I have a large prostate by volume and it would have to be shrunk with hormone treatment. This is based on DRE's and an MRI so it is indeed larger than it should be. I have decided against…

Inguinal Hernia Post RARP
Well, may want to add one more to the long list of side effects of a RARP. Background Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) has now become a gold standard approach in radical prostatectomy. The aim of this study was to investigate incidence and risk factors of inguinal hernia (IH) after RARP. Methods This study…

Sex and PSA Level
My first Urologist, and the one who initially diagnosed my cancer, warned me against having sex (orgasm) for 72 hours prior to having blood drawn. I had a PSA test 2 weeks ago and it went up nearly a full point from somewhere in the mid 6's to the mid 7's (I do not have the numbers in front of me) in 12 weeks. I forgot…

An update - 16 months post surgery
I just wanted to give an update on my husband (57 yo). We're a couple of months behind on his 6 month testing. Traveling to NYC for follow-ups makes coordinating flights/hotels a little tricky especially around spring break time periods! But - it's so worth it. Memorial Sloan Kettering and their expertise in the treatment…

Undecided
I have a Gleason 6 diagnosis with 7 positive cores, I’ll like to know from this forum if I can safely participate in active surveillance or undergo da Vinci surgery? I am really concerned about the possible side effects of surger.

Big increase in PSA
About a year ago, during my annual physical, my PSA went from 3.5 to 4.7. I consulted a urologist and had an MRI done which showed no signs of cancer. Then had a biopsy which resulted in Gleason score of 6. The doctor told me only one core sample had cancer, and the amount was very very small. We decided to do active…

Correlations
There seems to be a correlation that should be brought to everyone's attention... though it may be nothing or something. And that is the length lost versus the size of the prostate. In my case, people seem a bit incredulous when I insist I lost two inches off my business length when the prostate was removed during Da Vinci…

What questions to ask.
My 3000 posts are mainly from the Kidney Cancer board where I am an almost 17 year survivor and mentor the newbies. At age 75 my PSA is 6.5 and has been going up from about 3 to 6.5 in the last 5 years. I have BPH and I am having a retest on my PSA in 90 days. I have had some blood work which pruports to show I am not a…

Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, Gleason 6
Hi- After getting two successive high PSA results within a short time (a 4.7 and then a 5.5 about 3 months later), I had a prostate biopsy done and received a Gleason 6 score with six of the fourteen cores showing positive. I'm 59 years old. In googling information for 'Gleason 6' on-line, I see that there is a bit of…

Metastasized Prostate Cancer
My husband had prostatectomy surgery with 2 lymph nodes removed in October 2018. The margins and frozen sections were clear and subsequent PSA tests are undetectable. Transitioning from alternative medicine to hormone therapy - advice, experience?
Hello-- I've been pursuing alternative treatment with naturopaths for more than two years with little success and am likely switching to conventional hormone therapy. DETAILS: PSA was 5 in 2014, not too concerned as the guy who invented the PSA test now recommends it not be used at all. Focused on other health issues,…

Second Opinion Questions
When people refer to "getting a second opinion" what are they typically referring to? Are they suggesting getting another biopsy, having a biopsy that has already been done read by a different pathologist, or getting a different opinion on recommended treatment? Do labs usually keep the biopsy slides? How long are they…
