Hi Ladies, After several days of trying to decide what to do, I have decided to change doctors. I can't live my life without cancer defining me, when I have to play my life around a busy doctor's schedule. The dr. I have used since my chemo began last year, is in our local office one day per week. Often times that day…

Post Cancer Isses
Hi Everyone, Haven't been online here in awhile but wanted to ask you all something. It's been almost 2 years since my last chemo (Nov 18, 2010) and so far, thankfully, NED. I had stage 1C OVCA, 2 surgeries (radical hysterectomy/salpingo-oophorectomy/appendectomy plus 14 biopsies - my gyn/oncologist was very thorough).…

CA 125 and follow up
I went to see my surgeon for my regular follow up today. Exam was normal, but my CA 125 keeps rising. It was 24 last time and 30 today. It's been slowly but consistently increasing by a couple of points for the last year. It's never been below 14, but I was pretty comfortable with it in the low 20s. The upward trend is…

Today was the day I did the ovarian cancer 5k walk. All my family and friends participated in it. It was very moving. They made a short for me that said survivor and my name. They all wore shirts that said "I walk for Joyce Pratt" and a real ribbon in the middle. It was very moving. I want you to know I thought of you all…

Topotecan
Has anyone had some good success with Topetecan? I was doing well on the Doxil and then the cancer got smart to it and it stopped working for me. I had 1 treatment of Topotecan but my blood levels were too low for a second treatment. In the meantime I got an obstruction in my bowels and just spent 5 days in the hospital…

Question for Leesag-Brain Mets
Leesag, I remember seeing that you had treatment for brain mets last year. I have a recurrence to the brain (nowhere else)in 3 spots that my team wants to treat with gamma-knife and then possibly WBRT (whole brain rads). Did you have this type of treatment and what can you tell me about it re: side-effects (cognitive…

Does anyone else receive a visit summary each visit?
A few months ago my clinic started requiring that they give each patient a visit summary (beginning with the first visit ever made there) at each visit. This seems like a waste of paper to me. If you give 5 days in a row, you receive the same thing. They didn't give me one when I went for lab work Monday. I received one in…

Husband a hinder
I know this is a very personal topic. My husband is an alcoholic although not sure if he would agree with me. I am concerned because I will need him in the coming months if not years a head. I really care for him, even love him; however, I was thinking strongly about leaving him before my diagnosis. Now I feel that I can…

Lovely Day
I had a great day yesterday with one of my long-time friends. We attended the Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay. It is our second year. The previous year she asked me to go but I had just finished treatment and had spent five days in the hospital. The weather was rainy and I didn't feel up to it. I still feel badly that…

Has anyone appealed to their insurance company to cover out of network?
Hi Ladies, I called my insurance company this afternoon. Since there are no GYN/ONC within my network I can write a letter of appeal. In my area there are four GYN/ONC, but they are all with one clinic, out of my network. I had to go nearly 150 miles for surgery last year. I have seen an medical oncologist for over a year…
