Hang in there. I was there....I had the test and then found positive for BRCA1 positive. I think it is because if we test positive then we have a true reason for cancer. If we chalk it up to just sporadic then it shouldn't happen again. At least, that is how I see it. But being positive again for something wrong is somewhat defeating. At least for me. My worry is not really for me. I've experienced the cancer. Having the gene doesn't make me more suseptible for reoccurance. I fear for my girls and the increased risk they could have if they have the gene. Kim0 -

I came back positive for 1 also. At first it bothered me but the more my husband and I chatted with the genetic counselor the more I realized it is not so bad. Yes we are at a higher risk for breast cancer but on the flip side of that we have mri's twice a year so if it occurs they will catch it super early. My conselor also told me the thing about the oc recurrence. She said it is not definet but they are definetly seeing a trend... Hope that trend is on our side.0 -

I'm glad that you and your husband had a good talk with your genetic counselor to understand what it means to be postive for 1. Early detection is the key. Sounds like if you continue to get the appropriate tests done on a regular basis, you'll be in good shape even if breast cancer is detected.
Take care,

You and I are in the same boat. I too have gotten use to the idea. Plus it does show that BRCA1 patients with ovarian cancer tend to respond better to chemotherapy. And right now the ovarian cancer is our biggest concern. You are right...we will be surveyed frequently and if breast cancer develops they'll catch it early. Kim0 -

Kim you and I have been the same along. I even think you were diagnosed the same month I was. I was January 20th. I posted on inspire and asked BRCA1 positive people if they had a recurrence. The ansers were 50/50. I will take that 50% chance saying we may not recur.
My counselor told me I could cancel my mamagram and 2 days later my docs office called and said Dr. Shayne (my doc I will be seeing)emailed her and wanted her to tell me not to cancel my mamogram. Too late I already did the day after I was told I could
I dont get why we have to have a mamogram when we are having 2 breast mri's and they tell you soooo much more... Do you know why?0
