had 1st oncology appt today
Finally, seven months after neph, I saw an oncologist today. Tomorrow, I go for ct's of abdomin (he said he'd make sure the technician gets the lower lobes of my lungs as well) and pelvis. I couldn't be more pleased! He was something else, I tell ya. Very personable yet professional. He told me he'd have my results by…

Being an advocate for a parent who has kidney cancer
If I could get some help from an Urologist; my father was diagnosed back in the 2nd to 3rd week of Nov.2013 of 2 masses in one of his kidneys, and the surgeon does not appear to have any urgency with removing them, despite the fact that my father has been hospitalized for back and abdominal pain the last week of Nov. that…

real or imagined?
I went in for my scans today feeling good and confident. That faded real fast! Upon being taken back, the tech asked me if I'd ever had a reaction to contrast before and I told her I had not. I told her I was not suppose to have contrast today and she said yes you are, that's what the doctor ordered. So, I asked her to…

First post surgery scan next week.
Hello all. Hope all is well. I haven't been on here in a while, mostly due to a work schedule that was not favorable to spending a lot of time on the computer. It seems all I accomplished was going to work and then "passing out" in the recliner once i kicked my shoes off. Sometimes didn't have to remove the shoes. Anyhow,…

Naming your tumor???
Ok, I saw on a few posts that some are naming their tumors. I decided why not? Maybe that would help me deal better. Sooo, mine is Stewart (who is my favorite minnion on Depicable Me) I know....probably silly but I love those little guys. I told my daughter who is 19, she thought it was funny and loved it. She went and…

Happy Holidays
I haven't been on in awhile. Busy traveling to visit family and also for work, and just haven't found the time to pop in. Just wanted to say hello and wish all of you improved health and peace in the coming year. Wish I could say my cancer has been out of my mind. The good news is that there's no evidence of mets still.…

Afinitor anybody?
Great doctor @ MD Anderson, Dr. Tinnir, has me now on Afinitor, 10 mg daily, for trial. I spent 3 days @ MDA doing every scan/test under the sun. He says he can not "cure" me but I signed up for a trial with Afinitor being the first of 3 drugs he will use. Return every 8 weeks for check-ups. Anyone ever used this baby?…

Here we go
When I went to the doctor last week to get my nephrectomy staples out, I told the doctor that I would be worried a lot more and seeing him a lot more for every twinge or ache or worry. So the last couple of days I have noticed a very bitter taste in my mouth. It has been very busy of course the last couple of days and at…

When does the surgery pain end?
I assume my pain is from the nephrectomy and the lung wedge resection, rather than things glowing. I am 18 months post nephrectomy, and 11 months post wedge resection. In some ways, the pain is getting worse. At times, I feel like I can barely walk (who knew how much the admomen moved during walks). Am I special? Or have…

Everolimus - anyone have info or experience?
A friend of mine informed me of a drug trial and I was curious if anyone here had experience with the trial or had thoughts on it. The Everolimus drug trial is for kidney cancer patients who have already undergone surgery. http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT01120249

Help needed
Hi all, I'm not sure if I am using this site correctly? I have posted previously and also commented on a topic. However, I have received no replies etc. I am currently on a drug trial using sorafenib, having had a nephrectomy in August last year. I am keen to share experiences with others using that drug, which I believe…

SORCE TRIAL PARTICIPANT WISHING TO SHARE EXPERIENCES

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on 5th August 2012 as a 46 year old man and had the affected kidney removed approx 3 weeks later. It was checked and found to be stage 1 and grade 4. Due to the aggressive nature of it I was offered a place on the…

Thank you!
I found this group when my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cancer; at first, he was told "maximum one year, lucky if you make it to Christmas". a summer day turned upside down. I read about the Mayo Clinic and other cutting edge treatments from all of you. i learned that stage 4 was not a death sentence and then…

encouraging results from sutent
It has been a challenging year and the many hurdles that all on this site have crossed is a testament to the "never guit" mindset of the survivor and care giver. I am fotunate enough to share the results of our first scan on sutent. All three nodules in the lungs have shown interval response to therapy with decreased size…

New here looking for support
Hello All, I was diagnosed in May of this year with a pretty large growth in my right kidney (2a I think). The tumor was contained within the kidney no lymph nodes, viens, or anywhere else by the ct scans and pathology post surgery. I was very blessed to have caught it so early. My 3 month scans, chest xrays, blood and…

two weeks and 3 phone calls later...
Two weeks and 3 phones calls later, and still no results on my chest x-rays. These were my first set of tests since rad neph, 7 months ago. In the beginning, I was anxious. Now, I'm just pissed. The common curtesty of returning a simple phone call in a timely manner is lost in the majority of the medical profession, in my…

Feeling Very Strange Today
Hi everyone, well its exactly 1 year today that I was told that I had kidney cancer and I feel very weird about it all. Its been a rollercoaster of a year and I am grateful I am still here. My mind seems to be playing games with me at the moment and I just keep thinking its going to come back even though I get lots of…

latest scan
Well here we go. I had my follow up scan yesterday. The IL-2 is doing it's job! My tumors are stable or shrinking. What else can I ask for? Next scan is in 6 weeks. There was a time a couple years back when scans showed tumors everywhere. Now only down to a couple soft tissue mets and a couple bone mets. And they are…

Three-time renal cell carcinoma survivor
This is my first time sharing my personal account with kidney cancer on this board. I decided to do so in effort to offer some hope for anyone who needs it. I am a three-time renal cell carcinoma survivor--the last two of which were stage 4 (metastatic and distant spread). My first diagnosis was at the age of 25 following…

When is the most common timeframe to have the first post-surgery scan???
My open radical was on Oct. 2, which got rid of my 4cm cubed tumor (named Edward) -- stage 1B, grade 3. My first post-surgery urology and oncology appointments are coming up in January. I just got the reminder in the mail -- and, apparently, I do NOT have a scan scheduled. That really surprised me -- I fully expected to…

RCC mets to lungs at almost 2 yrs post nephrectomy
I'm new to this site and here because I think the best place to gain information is from those who have gone through it, the person at hand is my amazing father who is,to say the least ,in total shock. He has been having 6 mon scans done since his football sized tumor was removed during a radical nephrectomy almost 2 years…

40 Year Old Kidney Cancer Survivor (2001)
My name is Jim. I had just turned 38 when I was diagnosed in 2001 with Stage 1 RCC. My wife had just lost her 40 year old brother 4 months earlier to cancer (melanoma) and it was a very scary time. As with many people, it was caught by "accident" by a family nurse practitioner (my HMO doctor quit -3rd one in a year) who…

Collecting Duct Carcinoma
Aka we're back. We saw blkjak's new oncologist on Monday. Our shot at testicular cancer is over. He believes that this is kidney cancer, as previously thought, and thinks it is collecting duct. He is being treated with chemo weekly, carboplatin and paclitaxil , as this is the one subtype of kidney cancer that can respond…
