EEEEE
Almost 4 months past treatment went back for the scope. My second NED. The resident who performed it looked about 18 - but it was the less invasive scope I have had done. I was impressed with this Doctor. Of course when I go back in January he won't be there. Sigh !!

post-treatment question
My husband finished treatment last March for BOT with lymph node involvement. He doesn't have any saliva and sometimes some neck discomfort but other than that, he's done well and we are very thankful. The biggest concern he has is that he still is very tired and needs daily naps. How 'normal' is it for him to still feel…

I SURRENDER - THE PEG GOES IN NEXT TUESDAY
Wow, the beast got me on this one. I approached this whole thing with an apparrent unrealistic goal. I wanted to come out the other end without ever needing any type of assisted feeding device. I have been logging my dailiy intake of water and total calories ingested for each day. The best day I had this week was maybe…

any advice? please?
Hi - I'm a caregiver for my hubby who is still in the hospital recovering from a laryngectomy. Right now he wants to eat and swallow, but the docs all tell him not yet. Nothing in your mouth but antibacterial mouth swabs (which I bet taste like butt). I know he still has radiation to get through, as well as getting up to a…

Greetings from a new guy
Hello all, I am a 44-year old guy in for a nice S.C. Carcinoma that filled up a couple of lymph nodes in my neck. A partial neck dissection was first since the PET/CT showed it to be very localized. As of 10-10-10 I have completed 8 of 35 Rads, and 2 of 6 Erbitux infusions. I have gained a lot of great and useful…

Recovery from Surgery
We are now 4 weeks and 1 day since my husband's radical neck dissection, free flap throat surgery. I have to say I am very surprised at how slow the recovery is. Docs say he is doing great and right in line with where he should be so that is good news. He had appt Tuesday and the trache was removed (thank you Lord), and…

Hello Again
Hello to all, I was diagnosis with cancer on the rt tonsil on 9-24-10. On 10-05-10 I had both my tonsil removed. The doctor was able to get good margins. I had just got the pathology report which show the left tonsil had a small cancer tumor. This did not show up on any of the ct and pet scans. The Ent says this is a good…

Feeling decent today
18 rads & 2 Cisplatin under the belt as of today. I finally gave in and used my PEG for the first time today and what a difference it makes! I'm not giving up the ghost on swallowing, so no worries on that aspect. Docs also switched my pain meds from oxy to the Fentynol patch - no more ups and downs with dosing schedules…

Trach came out today
My oncologist took my trach out today. Yeah. It was uncomfortable since the last change anyway. I don't think it was put in right. But who cares now. I see progress. No cancer on PET now totally confirmed. Sorry but I don't always believe the first report. Don't have to go back to oncology for 3 months. Will have labs and…

Hello to all from a new member
Hi All, I have been following this board for some time and finally decided to take the plunge and join. My husband was diagnosed with Stage II SCC of the supraglottis in May 2008. Treated with chemo/radiation which ended in August 2008. Got all clear in December. In February, there was a lump on his neck which FNA revealed…

Hello from new member in Washington DC
Hello everyone. My name is Marc. I work for the FDA and live in Washington, DC. I have been a stable, healthy CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) patient, in "watch and wait", since 2002, when in May, 2010, I experienced a rather sudden eruption of my right tonsil, which was biopsied and diagnosed as Stage 4 SCC, which had…

What a new radio station, you wonder? Nope! That would be what my scale said when I stepped on it today. Woooohooo! That means I have gained three pounds since I got rid of my PEG. Happy dance. Closing in on 100. :)

Michael Douglas has cancer
Details are somewhat sketchy, but it's in the throat and sounds like it's spread to at least one lymph node. You can read about it here, http://bit.ly/bqw3bA if you're so inclined. None of us would wish this cancer on anyone, but perhaps there's a bright side: Having a celebrity as "one of us" could wind up bringing some…

Go through chemo again, even if it may not help?
Once again, bad news for my family. My dad met with his ENT today who read his PET scan again. While his most recent round of chemo/rads did have some affect on the cancer, it has spread. The doctor has already said no more radiation, and thinks that more chemo would be futile. I keep trying to think positively, but it has…

Talking hurts
When I go out and talk more than normal my jaw hurts the next day and everything feels really tight and stiff from my jaw down to my shoulders. I had three beers and one red wine and my glands seem to swell. It was a bit scary but swelling seem to go down during the day. Has anyone experienced these side effects.

shirts - what is most comfortable to wear for neck irritation from radiation?
Hi, My husband is starting his second week of treatment (1 chemo down, 28 rads to go). For his neck, he already started using the aquaphor (or axle grease as he likes to call it) religously. I also bought him calendula and aloe if that starts to work better. However, the collars on his shirts, and even his t-shirts are…

Waiting for reversal of trach and GT
My name is Cheryl in California. I was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in March of this year after 1 1/2 years of laryngitis and a little surgery to remove what my doc thought was a nodule. Pathology came back cancer. 2 weeks later my throat colapsed and I literally died. I woke up 4 days later out of a medically induced…

More comments from the inane and idiotic
Okay everybody, time to share! What new idiotic comments have you heard recently? From my mother-in-law, at Sunday dinner (prepared by me) at my house: "Are you done yet?" ... "Are you done?" ... "Are you done yet?" ... "Done yet?" ... "Done?" Me: "No. Are you?" At the club: "But you didn't get all wrinkly." Me: "?" Also…

amifostine
It's been recommended that I use Amifostine during radiation in small doses. I was just curious what everyone's experience was with it. It's optional for me. Bob

What Cancer Cannot Do!
I saw this on another thread and thought it would nice to post here. Hope you enjoy! What Cancer Cannot Do! I hate cancer. But remember what cancer can't do. Cancer is limited... It cannot cripple love, cannot shatter hope, cannot corrode faith, cannot eat away faith, cannot eat away peace. It cannot destroy confidence.…

external resorption of teeth
Just found out that I may have one or two teeth that have external resortion. Anyone else deal with this? The treatment is usually to extract the teeth so that means for oxygen treatments for me. And if anyone else has had this what did your dentist do? And is this caused from my radiation treatments I had 10 years ago?…
