NPC mets to bone
Just curious if anyone else had NPC metastasize to bone? My first PET back in June revealed multiple spots on my spine and sternum that are all clear now on PET in late August. Docs are telling me that if it got to the bone it's in the blood and will come back eventually. Prognosis is 1-3 years with full aggressive…

Eeeeeee Good first post-treatment scoping!
I went to see my ENT yesterday. Luckily, like turning on a light switch, right at exactly the 2-week mark (2 weeks ago Thursday was my last rad treatment), I woke up feeling a bit better and bale to talk. The doc said that two weeks post treatment might feel worse than it was during and man was he right! By yesterday…

HAVE YOU LOST YOUR VOICE DURING TREATMENT
All, I am experiencing all of the normal side effects such as burt skin, open sores on skin by neck and clavicle, huge mucous problems, tongue and throat pain ETC. I also lost my voice about 3 weeks ago, and it came back for 2 days while I was having my feeding tube inserted. The voice actually came back during insertion…

Jim's PET scan results were great! The doctor said the cancer is gone and that there is only residual activity from the treatment. We are offering praise to God for His mercy and thanks to you all for your prayers. Thanks, again.

GLUTAMINE POWDER FOR SORE MOUTHS
HI to all, I though I would post this as we get so many questions about what to do for 'Sore Mouth' and 'Mouth Burning' and 'Mouth Ulcers' etc all related to our treatments with Radiation and Chemotherapy. Very early in my treatment (70 hits of IMRT and Erbitux) I was put on Glutamine Powder (an essential Amino Acid) to…

Anybody Else With a Sore Throat Post Treatment?
OK - most of you are saying "Duh". It's just past a year since I discovered my huge lymph node. The only "symptom" I had was a slight sore throat - I attributed it to irritation from sinus drainage - I also had decreased appetite, so I guess that's two. Anyway, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I had a mild sore throat.…

Sore throat - what to expect
I am on treatment # 8 of 30 and my throat and ear canal are very sore tonight. They are radiating from the middle of my ear down below my clavicle. I was hoping to not have this raw a sore throat so early in the treatments and was wondering what to expect based on everyone's experiences. When did your sore throat start and…

Oh well I'm official heading towards deaf
Had my hearing test today, they confirmed what I already knew, I'm DEAF, well, not totally deaf, but the letters S and F I cannot hear at all, start a hearing aid trial next week, which they believe will help a little so hopefully this will help. It was the cisplatin chemo drug that did it. The tinnitus is awful at times…

How long before I can eat?
I literally can barely swallow anything, this is so depressing. I only have 2 weeks to go until I'm done with radiation. How long did it take everyone to swallow and be able to taste again? My throat is in so much pain :(

EEEEE
Almost 4 months past treatment went back for the scope. My second NED. The resident who performed it looked about 18 - but it was the less invasive scope I have had done. I was impressed with this Doctor. Of course when I go back in January he won't be there. Sigh !!

post-treatment question
My husband finished treatment last March for BOT with lymph node involvement. He doesn't have any saliva and sometimes some neck discomfort but other than that, he's done well and we are very thankful. The biggest concern he has is that he still is very tired and needs daily naps. How 'normal' is it for him to still feel…

I SURRENDER - THE PEG GOES IN NEXT TUESDAY
Wow, the beast got me on this one. I approached this whole thing with an apparrent unrealistic goal. I wanted to come out the other end without ever needing any type of assisted feeding device. I have been logging my dailiy intake of water and total calories ingested for each day. The best day I had this week was maybe…

any advice? please?
Hi - I'm a caregiver for my hubby who is still in the hospital recovering from a laryngectomy. Right now he wants to eat and swallow, but the docs all tell him not yet. Nothing in your mouth but antibacterial mouth swabs (which I bet taste like butt). I know he still has radiation to get through, as well as getting up to a…

Greetings from a new guy
Hello all, I am a 44-year old guy in for a nice S.C. Carcinoma that filled up a couple of lymph nodes in my neck. A partial neck dissection was first since the PET/CT showed it to be very localized. As of 10-10-10 I have completed 8 of 35 Rads, and 2 of 6 Erbitux infusions. I have gained a lot of great and useful…

Recovery from Surgery
We are now 4 weeks and 1 day since my husband's radical neck dissection, free flap throat surgery. I have to say I am very surprised at how slow the recovery is. Docs say he is doing great and right in line with where he should be so that is good news. He had appt Tuesday and the trache was removed (thank you Lord), and…

Hello Again
Hello to all, I was diagnosis with cancer on the rt tonsil on 9-24-10. On 10-05-10 I had both my tonsil removed. The doctor was able to get good margins. Feeling decent today
18 rads & 2 Cisplatin under the belt as of today. I finally gave in and used my PEG for the first time today and what a difference it makes! I'm not giving up the ghost on swallowing, so no worries on that aspect. Docs also switched my pain meds from oxy to the Fentynol patch - no more ups and downs with dosing schedules…

Trach came out today
My oncologist took my trach out today. Yeah. It was uncomfortable since the last change anyway. I don't think it was put in right. But who cares now. I see progress. No cancer on PET now totally confirmed. Sorry but I don't always believe the first report. Don't have to go back to oncology for 3 months. Will have labs and…

Hello from new member in Washington DC
Hello everyone. My name is Marc. I work for the FDA and live in Washington, DC. I have been a stable, healthy CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) patient, in "watch and wait", since 2002, when in May, 2010, I experienced a rather sudden eruption of my right tonsil, which was biopsied and diagnosed as Stage 4 SCC, which had…
