Acinic Cell Carcinoma
Has anyone had acinic cell carcinoma go to the lung? I had a parotid tumor removed in August 2009. My biopsy and frozen path were both benign, but my final pathology came back malignant. Acinic cell carcinoma was the diagnosis. I had clean margins so I was sent to an ENT at The Emory Clinic in Atlanta. First saw him every…

Just wanted to update that as of last week, I have been dancing with NED. Originally after treatment, I had…

Widening the Mouth
Has anyone been able to widen their mouth after jaw surgery? My oncology dentist told me he can't get a drill in my mouth to fill a small cavity. I use tongue depressors in my mouth but I can't seem to get past using six sticks.

My newspaper article
One year ago today found me not at my desk at the Ashland Times-Gazette but in another universe; in a Linear Accelerator receiving the first of my 35 radiation treatments. I was battling Stage 4 tongue cancer. After a summer of not feeling well, I was diagnosed by my local ENT who advised me to have treatment at the Ohio…

Close to two months now since my last treatments of rad (35 rto the neck&35 to the lung with 8 chemo) it was a tough set of treatments for a 78 yr. old male and the side affects are many. For the last several days I've been wondering what I should do if it comes back. For one it was said to me "you can'nt have any more rads…

Any thing better to drink than water?
Hi, I drink a lot now because of the lack of saliva. But I find that drinking water doesn't really sooth the throat as much as it used to because it tends to make it less moist or "dry" it by giving me the feeling that it's clearing the throat of moist mucus. I'm not sure if what I said makes sense. But I sometimes feel…

NED!!!
I am overjoyed and thrilled to post I am NED again! I went to the James yesterday with tears in my eyes as it was exactly one year ago that my treatments started. Hi All, Went for follow up today to review my PET/CT results. Here is the impression of the radiologist: No evidence of residual tumor. There is resolution of the abnormal activity both in the primary tumor site in the right side of the nasopharynx and in a right cervical lymph node. I am so relieved and grateful. I…

You know you're jaded when
I just had a couple of pretty good days and I'm so jaded that I think I will have to pay for this big time. I am off of the 'poison chemo pill' for two weeks and today is day 6 of that. I feel a bit more energetic, my tongue and mouth soreness is down quite a bit, and some of my taste is returning. I even enjoyed a premium…

Back from Mazatlan
Had a great time and very relaxed. DIDN"T DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN SIT ON THE BALCONY AND WATCH THE PEOPLE AND THE OCEAN. Did get a shock when I went to purchase Ensure, over $18.00 (dollars not pesos) and six pack. Buying a juicer to take advantage of all the fresh fruits and veggies for my next trip.

It's Back
I am almost certain that my vocal cord cancer has returned. I am in need of some short success stories (say 50-100 words), where a returned cancer has been successfully treated. And I have a easy definition for success. A treatment which produced six-months of freedom from major symptoms. How's that for a chellenge. If…

I kept in touch until the summer of 09, when low & behold, my computer was hit by a virus, followed quickly by…

Response to chemotherapy
I want to share my recent chemotherapy story, as to me at least, the beneficial response is remarkable. I had my second throat cancer about a year ago, treated with radical surgery. My follow up PET was negative at six months, but things began to change pretty rapidly after that. I got a persistent post nasal discharge and…

The end of treatment is in sight
Next week is my final week of radiation and 8 infusions of Eurbitux. My observations so far are that other than losing most of my sense of taste. I can taste a few things but not very well.
