Zinc
Okay, I bought some zinc today - I know it is a long shot but I figured I am already taking so many pills, what's one more, right? Even the pharmacist had heard of zinc helping regenerate taste buds.....I will keep you posted. I am three months out of treatment and am SICK AND TIRED of shakes so I needed to try this.....

Whew!
Came up on the good end following recent scans and exam. Mark (SCC Stage IV tonsil HPV+, diagnosed April 2010, finished treatment of surgery, chemo and radiation July 2010) was told today "no sign of cancer" and "can almost called you cured". I am guessing the "almost" is that no doctor will give a 100% cure stamp. We went…

Scan vs. scope
Okay...I have two specialists...the chemo doctor (who I only met 3 times during treatment and did not really care for) telling me he wants me to have PET scans every three months. Then I have my radiation doctor (let me also add he is one of the best radiologists in the nation), who I highly respect and saw every other day…

Bubble butt
No I'm not coming on the board to tell everyone about some new side effect from cancer treatments. My wife called me today from Mexico and told me that the vet had come by the house to give our two remaining puppies their health certificates so they can fly home on Monday. We didn't have to take puppy #3 to the river to…

Hello to my fellow NPC cancer survivors
I have seen quite a few posts from survivors that were diagnosed with NPC last year. I am just curious to know how's everybody doing so far since I was diagnosed with stage IV last summer also. My first post treatment PET and MRI are clear, hope all of you are getting the same result!

New Dry Mouth Product
I went for a dental cleaning this week, and the dental hygienist recommended a new product she had recently discovered at a dental conference. It is called "Oramoist", and it is a "patch" only 1/2" in diameter and 1/8th inch thick. It is pressed against the roof of the mouth, about half way along the palette. You hold it…

ADD
More testing on my hubby, we thought he was suffering from short term memory loss, come to find out he has ADD. Doctor said something like radiaiton posioning. I dont know, anymore. The one thing I know, is that the treatments jacked my husband up. But, he is alive. On the depressed side trying to figure out if he can…

unexpected dry mouth solution
We stumbled upon an unexpected solution for dry mouth at night, C-PAP. Jim has sleep apnea but has not worn his C-PAP machine for almost a year because of it being uncomfortable and pressing on the already painful nerve that the tumor pressed on and so got out of the routine of wearing it. Well his PC doc said he was not…

New here...hi everybody
Just got the bad news yesterday that I have cancer in my head/neck somewhere...I won't know precisely until I have a PET scan next week. I am scared to death of course, but have been reading a lot of upbeat posts here...thank you all for that!! My mother had a laryngetomy in 2002, so I do have some idea of what I'm about…

Retreat slowed me down more than planned
I went on a much needed 5 day spiritual retreat on March 11 and promptly broke a bone in my foot. I was so upset, not about the bone but about maybe having to leave. I was able to stay for 4 days but our son had to drive Jim over to get my car home. It was the first time Jim has driven since diagnosis in May 2011. He did…

More Very Bad News
I have been having intense pain in my right ankle and right thigh for a few days now. My personal Doc talked to me this morning and after hearing my description of the pain and looking at the latest CT scan, he thinks there is a strong possibility that the cancer has spread to my bones. He immediately scheduled me for a…

more uncertain news and more waiting
so we went for the consulation in reference to brachytherapy. After the doctor examined my mom he found "something" close to the tongue or rather more on the floor of the mouth. Said it's a little bump that is hard and he is not sure at this point if it's a scar tissue from radiation or post surgery tissue or another…

Tongue Biopsy
I had mucoepidermoid carcinoma of my left submandibular. Finished treatment (surgery & radiation) Jan. 2011, have had clear PET/MRI since. My question is I recently found a lump on my tongue on the underside the same side as the cancer. I went to my onco, who ordered a MRI and wants to see me in a month, or if the lump is…

throat/tongue pain
How long did your throat/tongue hurt after radiation? My husband said his throat and tongue still hurts like heck. He is taking 4 hydros a day for pain. He is 9 months out. The doc told him to watch his tongue and make sure it does not get infected. I am just wondering, the body is an amazing healing machine. What is it,…

It was around this time a year ago my blood test showed my prolactin level was 3 times higher than normal. I was referred to an endocrinologist who ordered me MRI scan to confirm pituritary tumor was the cause of my prolactin levels to elevate. Indeed, I was diagnosed with a small benign pituritary tumor which I was…

Just checking in, and a small thank-you gift
Am a year out of chemo/radiation and just had a clear PET/CT scan 2 weeks back. In physio for neck fibrosis but otherwise doing really well. Way luckier than many. In fact, my band even recorded a 10-song album in Nov-Dec 2011. If any of you like early-style punk rock and roll/power pop, you can download the whole thing…

External Beam Radiation
I'm about to receive External Beam Radiation for Papillary Thyroid Cancer, 5 days a week for 6.5 weeks, and was wondering if anyone had any advice. Not many thyroid cancer patients have to get XRT (EBR) so I've been advised to check out some of the other head/neck cancer threads. Any info or experiences would be helpful! I…
