Fentanyl (Duragesic) patch
I want to share this about the fentanyl patch. The starting dose is based on how much you're taking of other narcotics - not based on age, weight, etc. I found a dose calculator and it recommended a dose for my husband that was the lowest strength patch available as he was only taking liquid Norco about 6 times a day. He…

Emergency room. So tired of all this
Hi all, We are having a horrible day today. Quite frankly we are running in fumes and just don't have much left. So this is when I keep telling God that I know His power is made perfect in our weekness and that I know he doesn't give us more than we can handle. I just don't want this any more. We are so, so tired. I want…

Wasn't home long
Wasn't home long. My brother got me home Saturdsy at 530 and went to pick up scripts. By 730 I was back to hospital via ambulance. Vomiting and dry heaves. Was worried sick about tearing out surgery. Not sure if too many narcotics or last minute switch in narcotics as I left hospital or obstructed bowel. Couldn't keep down…

I was diagnosed with Stage II colon cancer Jan. 2013. Had surgery and my sigmoid colon was removed. Never had chemo afterwards because all the 24 lymph nodes taken during surgery tested negative for cancer. November the same year (2013), I was diagnosed with Stage III follicular thyroid cancer. Had thyroidectomy and high…

Ugh, pain. Can't seem to get on top of it this weekend. At least I see my Doctor Tuesday. Not much information out there on palliative care or what to expect as I worsen. I will be asking the doctor many questions tomorrow.

giving up alcohol?
no brainer, right? I mean, the first two questions the oncologist asked were, "do you smoke?" and "do you drink?" but is there some small amount of drink that eventually could be tolerated without risk? like one guinness per month? or every three months? I asked my oncologist about this, and all he said was that it's going…

Question about HPV & Tongue Cancer Connection
Can someone please clarify this for me.... Perhaps, ignorantly, I thought that being HPV positive meant this could potentially have gynecological implications. However, since the virus is systemic, can being HPV positive also have manifestation in oral cancers? I've read on the board that HPV oral cancers generally have a…

Hi Everyone, My husband has had 15 out of 30 rads. Yesterday he went in for his appt with the Chemo onc and was told he was being switched off Cisplatin to carboplatin. He was quite disappointed because he thought cisplatin was suppose to give him the best chance. He has stage 4A BOT. Only one lymph node. The doc said…

Results of PET scan--lymph nodes are shrinking, less uptake (SUV) in maxillary sinus. They were not able to compare size of sinus cancer because scan was darker than the one in October. Surgery done
I am doing exceptionally well or at least the morphine makes me think I am! They were very concerned with how best to put me under. Anesthesia was difficult and the most concerning safety issue for them. I had Mayo send them the procedure they used in September using nasal fiber optics, they ended up using same procedure.…
