Smells and nausea"
I just wanted to let everyone know that something suggested in a past posting worked for me, so it might work for others. I think it was Cheryl who made this suggestion... I had been having great trouble of feeling very nauseated the moment the chemo nurse rubbed my port with alcohol. I actually think the nausea reaction…

A rise in CEA
Good news, bad news, no news, who knows? I had my appt with my oncologist on Monday. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. My CEA has been consistently at .05 since I ended the chemo. It's gone up to .4 which is still definitely within normal limits but I worry because it's inching up. I'm assuming this is normal???????…

I am cancer free a few months after 32 chemo treatment, 6 weeks of radiation, 3 surgeries (2 lung and colostomy)all in 3 years. I'm good physically but mentally I am a mess. I went back to work in September (last chemo in August), I…

Thanks for the help with my fear of surgery
Thanks everyone for helping me get past my unreasonable fear of the upcoming surgery.I had my pre-op tests today, and the techs were so wonderful. It was strange, but as they talk to you, and ask the inevitable "what is your surgery for" their whole demeanor changed when I said rectal cancer. It was as if they became…

It's been a while since I've had a scope and know that there are new and better "preps" available these days, but I was having trouble finding the posts. I have a co-worker who is going to be scoped up and down because of persistent pain and I was hoping I could pass along some advice on a good prep. So, tell me, what is…

One less thing to stress about. My sister in laws father got the call early Sunday morning that a heart was ready for him. He has been on the top of the list for a bit now. For over a year he has had an 18 pound pump in his stomach that literally beats his heart for him. He made it through surgery and his color and blood…

How do you guys deal with extra stress?
My kids don't live with me. To avoid a long drawn out story - my 16 y/o son was supposed to be living with his father (who is basically useless). He is now sitting in Pinellas County Jail. He has been in and out of JDC (Juvenile detention) since last August, was supposed to have been completing a program. His dad basically…

Hi Everyone, We're learning so much reading all of your posts. **** starts his "clean out" in about 15 minutes. It is a bit surreal as he ran 40 minutes today and looks great. ****'s surgery to remove his transverse colon is at 9:00am tomorrow. I will stay at the hospital with him tomorrow night. It was good to read about…

Another Kind of Beast
You would think after getting surgery and going through 12 rounds of Folfox and being told by my oncologist that my CEA was back to normal and the scans showed no other tumor sites, I would be happier "than a clam at high tide" as they used to say. Instead I am battling depression and anxiety like heck. It is almost as if…

Question for Canada Sue
Sue - I just read your response to my Sugarbaker method post. Wow, your husband was in the hospital only 14 days, that's great. Did he receive IV chemo after? How's he doing now? I'm going for a consult tomorrow so I can provide info to my oncologist for the referral. If you'd prefer we can discuss this offline. Traci

Not sure how many of y'all are basketball fans, but I was really sad to hear today that Kay Yow passed away from breast cancer. She was the legendary women's basketball coach from NC State, my son's alma mater. Kay had been fighting this disease since 1987, and she was so inspirational everyone in her fight. Even though…

ileostomy reversal
I had my ileostomy reversal on Dec 21,07. I take lomotil which helps with the frequency issue. I discovered that if I take alleve cold and sinus with lomotil that I don't have any BM's for most of the day. This enabled me to travel and go to dinner and then to shows, which usually last around 2 hours. Has anyone else had…

My first PET Scan
A few weeks ago, I'd asked for input on what PET Scans are all about. Everyone was very helpful. So, I was coming back from a business trip yesterday and got a call on my cell from the imaging lab and they could take me this morning. So, wanting to get it over with, I did it this morning at 8. Big mistake. I was tired from…
