Let the Radiation Begin.
I start tommorow with 28 daily radiation treatments in combination with daily Xeloda. It has been nice to be off any drugs for the last week. I feel great for the moment. Wish me luck with the radiation, I am uncertain what side effects will come my way. It is a necessary evil on the way to a cure. Mike

metastisized rectal cancer
Hello, I need some advice. In 2002 I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. I went through treatments and surgery. Everything went ok but in 2005 they found 2 pulmonary nodules in my left lung. It turned out to be metastisized rectal cancer. Once again I went through treatments and surgery.Everything has been ok. But last year…

Ascites and Abdominal Pain
Hello: My dad is currently suffering from ascites. He is on fluid pills but they are no longer working very well. He complains of pains in his stomach sometimes once a day, sometimes twice a day or not at all. I am trying to figure out if ascites can cause abdominal pain or if this is just the cancer. Any thoughts??…

OK, I have another weird question
The side effects I tried to prepare for after I began chemo have not been that bad, but I'm getting weird side effects. My scalp is very tender, can't sleep on my back or brush my hair. I get headaches and what feels like pressure on the left side of my head where my brain tumor was located. My eyes are puffy like I've…

Fuzzy Brain
Has anyone had problems with their memory? I had a resection recently in October of 2007 with chemo and radiation and a cancerous gallbladder removed in February of 2008. My memory has literally been shot to pieces since. I don't know if it's the anesthesia from the surgery, a reaction to the chemo or a combo of both. I…

Visualization for a laugh!
Great day here today--72 degrees and beautiful! I know we've heard how important visualization can be. Today while I was watching television, I saw the commercial for auto insurance where a nun gets rear ended, gets out, touches the car with a stick, and smiles benevolently. Then BOOM! the driver of the car that rearended…

CAT scan vs PET scan
Hi All, ****'s surgery went well. They took 75% of his colon and as I mentioned, they took a lot of lymph nodes and we are waiting for the path report on Monday. The nodes were enlarged so the surgeon said plan on chemo. The surgeon also said he did not see anything on the liver. The original CAT scan 1/12/09 showed organs…

My Job...
I went to visit my work yesterday, since my hospital stay last week, and everyone was really happy to see me. They gave me a card that they all signed and it had over 200 bucks in it, I just started bawling, and said they didn't have to do that. I also found out that I had to be there for a year to do that Family Medical…

Prayers for Surgery on Monday
My mom's total thyroidectomy is scheduled Monday at 5:30 am. This is to remove her second primary cancer. She is still fighting the colon cancer beast and doing well in that fight. I ask that you keep her and her surgeons in your prayers this weekend. All my best to all of you! I'll update Monday!

You gotta read this book!
Hi Everybody, I just want to recommend some good reading- especially for those of you who like action and drama filled fiction that also addresses the spiritual aspect of our lives. It's called "The Shack" by William P. Young. I'm almost finished with it, but am even making the recommendation before finishing it- it's been…

Hello all, First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and well-wishes. I received some devastating news today. Not only do I have a met to my liver (thankfully, it is operable), but I also have two walnut sized mets in my peritoneum. It hasn't even been a month since I finished my 12th FOLFOX treatment.…

All of you help me so much...
What I've been reading helps me...I don't feel alone and the only one trying to fight this cancer. I also realize there are others who have had more severe stage 4 cancer and (forgive my ignorance) children that have severe cancer. When I think it's the end of life as I know it...I am thankful for the experienced people…

NED
Hi Everyone, I have been here since 2004. The first 2-3 years I was more active here. So were alot of others who have also drifted away from the discussions. I think as we got better and got on with our lives we just got busy. I never did stop reading the posts though. Everyone is new and I don't know any of you but I do…

Smells and nausea"
I just wanted to let everyone know that something suggested in a past posting worked for me, so it might work for others. I think it was Cheryl who made this suggestion... I had been having great trouble of feeling very nauseated the moment the chemo nurse rubbed my port with alcohol. I actually think the nausea reaction…

A rise in CEA
Good news, bad news, no news, who knows? I had my appt with my oncologist on Monday. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. My CEA has been consistently at .05 since I ended the chemo. It's gone up to .4 which is still definitely within normal limits but I worry because it's inching up. I'm assuming this is normal???????…

Thanks for the help with my fear of surgery
Thanks everyone for helping me get past my unreasonable fear of the upcoming surgery.I had my pre-op tests today, and the techs were so wonderful. It was strange, but as they talk to you, and ask the inevitable "what is your surgery for" their whole demeanor changed when I said rectal cancer. It was as if they became…

Colonoscopy prep?
It's been a while since I've had a scope and know that there are new and better "preps" available these days, but I was having trouble finding the posts.
