A little over a week ago he posted n FB that a good friend who is a reporter was kidnapped in Syria.

I have sent him email from here, which he usually answers, but nothing so far.

Hope all is well with him.

I've been missing you also and miss you on the boards.  Hope that you are doing good and was thinking about you the other day as I'm going to make a turkey soon and just wish you could join me as you always said you don't have an oven big enough for our 23 pound turkeys.  Wishing you the best and hoping you check in soon.

I finally heard from him

He has been very busy with his company, but seems to be doing ok otherwise.

His "report" was short, but at least now we know what is keeping him away.
