Protein additive?
I remember reading a post a few months ago about a protein powder that is unflavored that can be added to soups, etc. I think it may have been JBG that mentioned it, but not sure and I have been searching through posts for 1/2 an hour now and can't find it. Anyone know what it is? I think it was little packets and I found them on Amazon - think it was about $30 ...but now I can't find it.

Benecalorie by Nestle
Perhaps it is Benecalorie that adds 7g of protein and 330 calories, or Beneprotein that adds 6g of protein and 25 calories? They're both made by Nestle Health Science and can be found on Amazon. I used the Benecalorie for extra protein and calories, and it mixed quite nicely with both hot and cold foods. The Benecalorie is the consistency of a thin liquid/gel; the Beneprotein is a powder. Hope this helps!

Were you able to gain weight taking the Benecalorie? Not sure how much it cost yet, but would you say it's worth it? My hubby is losing so much weight Thank you.

not northa but....it's about $35 for 24 "servings" on amazon. Have you talked to the nutritionist at the cancer center? They have have samples or other ideas for you. Is he eating, just not much? When my husband lost weight early on, the nutritionist suggested just adding extra oil to his meals. Will he drink shakes? The benecalorie does add 320 calories per serving, so it seems it may be worth trying.

Though I didn't gain weight, Benecalorie did help me maintain it. I've always had a problem keeping weight on (I'm 5' 0" and fought to stay at 95 lbs, even before I was diagnosed) so the Benecalorie essentially did the same thing. I used 1 - 2 packs of the Benecalorie per day, usually one mixed in yogurt or a breakfast smoothie/drink in the morning, and one mixed in something at night before bedtime (Instant Breakfast, a bowl of soup). Fortunately for me I was never horribly nauseated, but the treatments did make foods not taste very good so whatever I was able to choke down had the extra protein and calories. I paid about what jen2012 did, ordered it through Amazon and got free shipping as an Amazon Prime member. I'd give it a whirl for at least one order and see how it works for him. I stopped using it earlier this year as I'm on a whole new treatment path due to the discovery that I was misdiagnosed for 2 1/2 years, but am going to start again as this new treatment has started doing as it promised and is making me lose weight. Not from any gastrointestinal issues or nausea, one of the side effects of the meds was possible weight gain or loss and guess which side of the fence I fell on?!?! I also add about one teaspoon of organic extra virgin coconut oil to each cup of coffee I drink (I have two cups per day, sometimes more), add one scoop of Nutrilite protein powder to smoothies made with Yoplait berry smoothie mix along with the Benecalorie (the powder adds 10 g protein, and calcium and amino acids), and eat whatever tastes good even if it's a burger and fries or pizza. I try to keep it healthy but sometimes the lesser of the two evils is to eat some junk along with the good stuff in order to keep weight on. The protein powder is available on Nutrilite.com and the Yoplait mix can be found in the frozen food section of the grocery store It's much cheaper at Costco, but if one isn't conveniently located to you it's easier to buy it locally. The coconut oil adds a definite coconut taste to whatever you use it with, so if your husband doesn't care for it I believe it's the expeller pressed that is the next best option (it won't make whatever you add it to taste like a Mounds bar).
Take care, hope the Benecalorie or Beneprotein do the trick!
Andrea
