What is a Warrior?
I wrote this poem and posted it back in August of 2009. I thought that I would post it again. What is a warrior? I used to know. It was a fierce person Armed with a bow. They’d fight off invaders That threatened their lands. With spears, with guns And even their hands. They wouldn’t stop fighting, Until they won. They…

mouth sores from chemo
Help! Last time around, I didn't have this problem, but with the new chemo, my mouth (and throat and tongue) are raw and sore! I have been using baking soda and water as recommended by onc nurse - but am wondering if there is anything else that can give me some relief. Thanks!

DIEP surgery
I'm scheduled for bilateral mastectomy with full breast reconstruction using the DIEP method on July 19. I've been reading posts from people that have had this surgery but I'm most concerned with how I will feel immediately after I wake up from the surgery. Are you so drugged up that you don't feel anything? Do you need to…

Good Morning Everyone, I've made a decision and will stick with it.
I've decided that I am having both my breast removed even though I only have the cancer in my right one. In the past week or so I have learned more about cancer than I have in the 20 years that it's been since my sister died from this desease. Apparently I've been living in denial and assumming I would never get this crap.…

Back from vacation
Well, I certainly picked an eventful week on the boards to go on a cruise! I've been trying to catch up and feeling a bit (OK, a lot) overwhelmed. Sad to hear about recurrences :..( and happy to hear about new grads and upcoming nuptuals :-))). At the advice of my dear cousin that is a cancer survivor herself (uterine), my…

B39 Trial Study for radiation
I was offered to participate in a trial study called B39. The study is to determine if partial breast radiation 2x day for 5-10 days is as effective as whole breast radiation 1x day for 5-7 weeks. They especially wanted someone in my age group (43) because there haven't been very many in the study under 50. Have any of you…

Taxol Leakage
Yesterday I received my last Taxol treatment. The nurse did not put the needle in well nor did she stay for the 15 minutes to ensure there were no side effects or check on me once during the 3 hours of treatment. It took a couple of tries as she missed the vein and did not secure it well with tape (I even questioned her on…

what to wear
My bilateral mastectomies are next Tuesday and I don't own clothes that open in the front. Because of shoulder issues I have to carefully put one hand in sleeve and pull over head. Why is it that everyone says to get clothes/nightgowns that open in the front??? My surgeon said I will only have drains if lymph nodes are…

I Absolutely Hate My Surgeon
I went to see him last Thursday to hear the results of my MRI, at that time I told him "NO" I didn't want any reconstruction, he said I have to go and see a plastic surgeon to hear all my options, then after that if I still don't want any reconstruction then he will take off both of my breats on July 9th. So this morning I…

Friday my daughter gets her first mammogram
My 28 year old daughter gets her first mammogram this Friday. Anyone who has read my posts knows that I have a really sucky family history (2 sisters with breast cancer, father with colon cancer, grandmother with breast cancer, etc.). I was just 33 when I was first diagnosed. Please send prayers, positive vibes, happy…

Made it through 1st fill
Well, I did a lot of worrying for nothing. I never felt the needle prick, and the pain is not unbearable at all. Of course I only got 60 cc's this time because I have had so much problem with skin healing. I am a little tight and sore. I was glad to get such good advice from everyone. This is a great site to answer…

Clothes
Hello. This is my first post. I have 2 questions. 1). Having breast sparing double masectomy with immediate reconstruction. Any spacific questions to ask surgeon on meeting 6/29? 2). After surgery I have been told that "patio dresses" ( the ones that zip up the front) are best. Any other ideas. My grandmother wore those!

Funky vein looking thing...
Hi Invisi-Sistas! OK so I did a whole lot of worrying for nothing. Still on for nipple reconstruction this Saturday. Starting to overeat in an effort to cope. What's new? Anyway, I kept seeing this strange large "thing" that resembled a large vein moving aroud the top of my boob. I thought I'd better tell the plastic…

Medical tape
I am very allergic to medical tape, it takes my skin off. I plan on telling my surgeon at pre-op visit. What are the other options and how big of a complication does this create?

Has anyone tried Nioxin?
Just wondering if anyone has tried Nioxin and how soon after chemo is completed can it be used to promote hair growth? My friend purchased the starter kit for me (much cheaper from a supply store if you have a friend who has a beautician's license). Thanks for any advice!

Please don't be scared - Live your life to the fullest!
I know that for a lot of us that are still so new with our diagnosis of breast cancer, that the postings of the recurrence's scare us to death. But, maybe that isn't a bad thing in the fact that it will make us more diligent and keep us fighting harder to keep the beast away and out of our lives forever. I know the thought…

Let's light candles to life on Wednesday evening
It's been a tough week here on this board, as we've gathered around several of you just learning of recurrences, and done our best to walk with everyone here, no matter where you are in your journey. I can't write poetry like some of you can -- and, to be honest, I'm not even very good at *reading* poetry -- so I'd like to…

silicone or saline?
does anyone have any thoughts or experiences they would like to share on choosing between silicone and saline implants? I've had a double mast with expanders and am going in for final reconstruction next month. I know the up side to silicone is a softer feel but they have to be checked periodically by MRI for leaks. Any…

Prayer for tonight (just a suggestion)
First of all, I want to thank Traci again for such a wonderful idea! I told my husband about it (he thinks you're all pretty great, too!) and he's going to light a candle with me tonight at 7:00. I work for a religious congregation (nuns) and one of the sisters gave me this prayer when she heard I had breast cancer. I…
