Starting Chemo Thursday
I felt very alone until I found this board. I'm newly diagnosed and starting A/C tomorrow, and I need some advice. I know from reading some of your posts that I need to drink much water. I've decided my minimum intake should be 12 cups a day. I'm already doing 10 so that shouldn't be difficult if my stomach cooperates. My…

I actually forgot!
I just had to share this - it made me laugh so hard. Backstory is, my Dad has been very ill. Hospitalized, GI tube. He's home and my sister and I are caregivers. In trying to get organized, I said to my sister, I wish we had brought home the wash basin that he had in the hospital. I then said, I'm sure I have one at home,…

Let The Countdown Begin!!!
OK all you Tamoxifen sisters out there...10 more days and I'm done!! I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally finish! I want to celebrate in a BIG way! My first thought was to go get a banana split! I've been seriously thinking about what flavored ice cream would go with choice of toppings! LOL. Then I thought maybe…

A striper pole????
Today i went to my physical therapy and they are giving me new exercises to do for my arms and a charlie horse in my back that has been there for over a week now. My therapist grabs me and pulls me into the hallway while shes explaining ...we all need a stripers pole in our house for these excerises and shes showing me how…

My first Hair cut .. I've waited 6 months since hair started to grow back ---
Boy, did I need a trim and actually went in for a trim, ended up with a hair cut! I need to take an alarm with me next time to remind me to stop chatting after 15 minutes and pay attention to my actual hair cut/trim. As I gabbed with my stylist and other women .. I've notice 'Sally' going wild with the cutting - intense,…

I'm DONE with chemo .. My story
First: thanks to all my breast cancer sisters for being out there. You women have given me more hope and valuable information than any of my doctors ever could. I just wanted to share my gratitude, feelings and thoughts. 18 weeks of consecutive chemo therapy -- ending on December 18, 2009 - dose dense chemo treatment plan…

Having PET scan
tomorrow at 1:00pm. I can't eat after tonight. Bummer! I was told to arrive at 12:30. I've had several scans done before - bone density, MRIs, CTs but this will be the first PET. I'm not concerned about the scan itself but will be anxious to see if it will show anything. Char

On a positive note....
I am going forward full force with my idea for the little handbook with practical tips for breast cancer patients. As I had mentioned before, it will have the theme of a journey and the diagnosis will decide which route you will take, it's your ticket. So I was thinking for the title, Destination Survival. What do you…

what cancer has taught to me
So far what I have realised ..... to be selfish - dang if I don't take care of my needs I won't be around to take care of anyone elses. won't tolerate rude or disrecptful behaviour from any kid including my own. to speak up in a way I can be heard. to be polite when I don't want to be around friends who instigate drama…

When is your birthday?
To all the Newbies (& Oldies) that would like to be added to the list of birthday wishes, just reply with when your birthday is. You don't have to share the year or how old (or young) you will be. We would love to celebrate along with you! ♥ Cat

Maintaining perspective
I have noticed a few boards during my respites here that exceed my level of expertise, and to be frank have made me uncomfortable. Ladies that require a lot more than I am capable of giving emotionally or intellectually. Yet, I'm proud that some of you have the 'brass ovaries' to deal with some touchie topics with an…

Can anyone recommend a good PS for a Latissimus Dorsi Flap in Arizona?
I have had several consultations with various PS in the Phoenix area. It seems they all agree that my best option is a Lat. Flap. My problem is that most of the doctors that do these surgeries have only been practicing on their own for a few years or less. It is hard to find good reviews. I would appreciate any advice…

Back to work tomorrow
The wheels on the bus go round and round...I drive a school bus van for handicapped kids. This week is our practice run before school starts on the 17th. It was nice being off for the summer getting unemployment for awhile. I didn't get any projects done I had planned to do, but my intentions were good. I wrote a list…

Edit?????
Mmmm I think I've asked this before. When I reply to someones post, it says edit. I've previewed it and it still says edit. If your commenting (at the bottom of the post) why does it say edit. It looks stupid. Sighhhh Help me please. LOL

Strike up the band - this dance is mine NED!!!!!!
First of all, thank you to all of you ladies who joined me (even if you were late due to my lack of clarity as to the time) for my first mammo yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. Did you know that you sent a real-life angel to help me that day? As I sat back in the waiting/dressing area awaiting my results (thank goodness they…

Update on my reoccurence
Well, I was a little too hopeful on my last post about my update. I did get a copy of the cat scan and it did show a slight decrease in the tumor in my liver which was originally 9x8 cm, yikes, it is huge. Also, there was a decrease in most of the swollen lymph nodes in my stomach area, however, there was a slight increase…

The new HAIRY me!!!
Hahaha, it's not that bad but I have to say my hair was thick to begin with and now it's like a jungle up there... I can't even see a line when I try to part it!!! After reading the other post on here, I was cautious with coloring it but today I shot all caution in the wind and out came the henna and guess what??? NOTHING…

I envy you all
I have been following this board for some time. And I have to say I admire you all for your feistiness. I think I lost to cancer. Cancer broke my spirit and made me invisible.I was alone to begin with, busy chasing a career. Now my loneliness, is just unbearable. Looking my own mortality in the face, it just seems like I…

Need suggestions on handling
OK sisters how do we handle people like I encountered yesterday? One dropped in to visit after just now hearing that I had mastectomy April 21, caring, compasionate BUT then said you know my daughter is a 7 year cancer survivor and was told that cancer is never gone and will resurface another time another place and you…

I had a great compliment today - tell me about your memorable compliment!
I register patients for appointment with PCP's, and sitting at desk today that was not mine. A few beautiful baby pictures were on the wall of the cubicle and a patient asked me (sincerely) if that was my baby - not my grandbaby. Golly gee! I'm 56, boy did I need that! It's a whole lot better than being asked if you're…

Who was your childhood idol?
Growing up I loved Pippi Longstocking, I wanted to be JUST like her. Strong and adventurous with my own monkey and a horse. I beged my mom to color my hair red and get me long stockings and when she didn't I would sneak my dad's socks they were big enough and would look for treasures in our back yard. Ayse

PET scan question
I had lumpectomy followed by rads. A 'clear' mammo. I've never had a PET scan. Is it warranted? Do only those with more involved cancer/surgeries qualify? I always feel that cancer is like the boogieman I was afraid of as a child, lurking just out of view, but there... So, I want to do everything I can to be assured. Thank…

Vitamin E
I've had pain along my left side since my DMX, during the expansion process and even still some when the silicone implants were put in five weeks ago. I'd read that vitamin E (taken orally) could be helpful to prevent capsular constructure (sp?) and would also help with the scar healing. I went to my local organic vitamin…

So Cal CSN Family (re?)Union - You asked for details - I've got details!!!!
OK - I think (hope) I've found the perfect spot! The Yardhouse Restaurant at Shoreline Village has a private room that we can use without any fee. The only stipulations for using the room are that they will issue 1 check for the group (so we'll need to do our own math to figure each person's portion) and that they will add…

Neuropathy pain
What did you take for relief? I misplaced my notes to my Onc and can't remember what he said. I've tried to "rough it out" thinking it would go away soon. I am now willing to give into my stubborness! Thanks Ladies! ♥ Cat
