Thanks
I just wanted to say thanks to all those who posted about dealing with pain. I have been trying so hard to not take the pain pills the surgeon gave me to deal with reconstruction surgery. I had diep flap surgery in June and then additional surgery in November. I thought I could manage , but I just couldn't. My. oncologist…

Swimming with Prosthesis
I finished treatments in June 2008 and I finally began swimming again in January and have worked up to a mile - very slow but steady. I purchased a "swimming" prosthesis, but it doesn't fit as well as my other prosthesis as it is a size larger. I am rather small - I use the smallest prosthesis available, however, I haven't…

Tee hee on me! To decrepit to excercise!
So, I caught an episode of The Doctors (not the one with Nick & Althea!) and they had a Shake Weight on it. I'm always leary of the 'As seen on TV' stuff, but this was being touted as an okay thing. Hey, I think, that looks easy. First you have to grasp the stupid thing - have I ever mentioned the arthritis in my thumbs?…

swimming?
A health club here has a hot-springs-fed outdoor lap pool. Swimming there, particularly at night in the snow, is absolutely glorious and very, very peaceful. But I have a question -- I still have a prothesis, foam, size DD. I think I'd drown trying to swim with that thing :) . Anybody aware of any inexpensive substitutes,…

A Happy Story
I thought that I would share a story that brought a big smile to my face. Most of you know that I have been making fleece blankets (Operation Warm Fuzzies) for chemo patients at my local hospital (given out in December). A good friend of mine was at the infusion center right before Christmas for an iron infusion. She…

What Is Offensive? we are just sharing in the hopes of helping others.
A certain person took offense to my sharing 'TC' my protocol on the discussion board and my sharing what I was told with others. I told others I was taking the 'TC' combo - was happy with it - and felt it was the best way to go. It does not make me a "quasi-oncologist" when I share what I was told or what I think, nor am I…

It's been 3 years since my treatment and I STILL ITCH
It will be three years in May when my radiation treatments ended. My nipple area STILL itches something awful! My radiation oncologist recommended Aquaphor and also recommended the Aveeno with oatmeal. Both work for short periods of time. I also drink plenty of water. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Femara users with hand pain
I have been on Femara for 10 months and have been experiencing finger cramping, hand pain, fatigue etc. No MD seems to care about the fact that these impairments have significantly affected my work and personal life, ie opening a jar, twisting a tie, typing reports at work, keeping up with my spouse in a usual way...the…

One of the obligations of saying Hello....
and welcoming someone into your life, is saying "Goodbye" with just as much respect and love. It is part of the total experience. I was asked at a recent interview why I still go on supporting others...even when there are some I cannot help or save...The discussion subject is what I said in response. I am a better person…

This was one of Elizabeth Edward's Favorite Poems - I love the message - HOPE
Hope Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune--without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chillest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in…

Looking for a way to give back? Check out this page on ACSCAN/CSN.....
I am a member of a group in ACS called the Cancer Action Network. Every so often, when there is a piece of legislation ACS is interested in that is up for a vote, I receive an e-mail that alerts me of it, and asks me to send a message to my representatives in the government as to how I feel. Included is a form that I can…

A little known side effect of Tamoxifen
Thought I would share with this group that I found out the hard way that there is a little known side effect of Tamoxifen. I have been taking 20 mg of Tamoxifen daily for about 9-10 months. Recently, I noticed every day my hair breaking off and loosing much too many hairs -- becoming very thin. I contacted the manufacturer…

Not lymphedema but has anyone had other swelling issues?
I occasionally have issues with retaining fluids but since starting chemo treatments I had noticed swelling in the ankles the week after throughout my 6 rounds. The last 2 treatments however, my feet, ankles, lower legs, hands and left eyelid are swollen. My pcp gave me Lasix and it worked the first time but now seems to…

Interesting Article
Ladies, Just wanted to tell you to go to www.msn.com they have an article on a promising new blood test that will find those small cancer creatures in our blood. Seems to be effective and major cancer, like breast, colon, lung, etc. Still in testing stage but Johnson & Johnson are teaming up with researchers to get it…

still so sad about Heidi....and does anyone "repeat" themselves????
I was told that I repeat myself in conversations.....I have been on arimidex almost 2 and 1/2 years. They said I have never done this until this diagnosis, treatment....but, now I feel like I am afraid to talk for fear I will bore someone to tears. I guess it is getting really old to them. :(

To Moopy
Dear Moopy, I just read about everything that is going on this week. I am so upset that you and Joe have to endure this stress and worry. We love you here. I am praying that somehow everything works out ok. Please do whatever you can to keep the fear and stress at bay. Perhaps a prescription for valium? It really helped me…
