I saw my Onc. yesterday for my 15 month appt. Everything was good, labs and all were great! He talked to me about having an oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) I am on tamoxifen and have been for 10 mos. He said in looking at my individual stats and all he thought it would be to my advantage to have ovaries removed and…

After chemo, has ANYONE ever...
After finishing chemo has anyone ever got their period back??? Is the chemo-induced menopause permanent or can it be reversed? Has it been done? Methinks not in this life... Of course, I can see why oncologists would shudder at the very thought as this seems the exact opposite of any oncologists goal. Just trying to gather…

Things are not always what they seem...
I love the complexity of life. Today in my new life as a brunette, I had an amazing day. I had the honor of listening to world class musician Yo Yo Ma in the park. He gave a lecture first, what an inspiration! He was playing with musicians from all over the world - they called themselves the silk road ensemble. I wish I…

I was going to reserve the big pink bus, but
I just held my breath and decided to 'go it alone'. I knew I could ask, but there have been so many whose appts, surgeries were more dire than mine, I just couldn't. Two weeks ago - on Memorial Day - I had some spotting and it scared the daylights out of me. I'm 5 yrs post menopausal and I am 57. Last week I had an…

Clinical trials Radiation
Has anyone been in any clinical trials for radiation such as an India regimen of things such as cumin, etc for the skin? I'm starting radiation next week and the nurse asked if I would be interested in being in the research. I told her yes, but I've never been in a clinical trial before. Renee H

Middle of the night....when will I sleep sound again and what about special days?
Ok so here I sit, might as well journal and then "try" to relax. I took my teenagers to see Soul Surfer this past evening....it was inspiring, uplifting so what do I do? I crawl into bed and could only think about death. Wow. My 2 older children's father died just a few months ago from cancer (he lived 4 short weeks). We…

Pink bus needed
I do not know if the pink bus is in use on 6/9/09. If it is, you can certainly do a "drive by prayer" on your way to another mission of mercy. If not you can linger and pray at the hospital in close by range. Here's the scoop. I have been a bit lopsided in my lower abdomen since shortly after the insertion of my port. Now…

I had a mastectomy on the right side, chemo, and radiation. I finished everyting in mid-March. I'm now in the "let's wait and…

NCCN guidelines
Does everyone know that you can access the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology? You have to establish an account, but it's very straightforward. Their flow charts are easy to understand even tho they are meant for clinicians. They often will help either set your mind at ease or provide additional information when…

surgery June 10th, one day before my bday.
Back in May 23, I posted about my DCIS. I am scheduled to have surgery June 10th, a day before my bday. I will have a lumpectomy & a sentinel lymph node biopsy with a possibility of axillary lymph node removal. As the days go by & my surgery date approaches I am feeling anxious. I am really uneasy about the injection,…
