Good results from today's checkup
Today, I had my six-month checkup with my gyne-onc. It has been two years and ten months since I finished six rounds of carbo/taxol and brachytherapy for Stage 1a UPSC, and my doctor said everything looks great. I was terrified for weeks before this appointment, so I am happy to report these results. Love to all, Jill

signs of recurrence
Hi all, I'm basically new to this board, and apologize if this has been discussed already. I'm diagnosed with UPSC, stage 1 or 2, to my oncologists best judgement. No lymph nodes were sampled, but scans are clear and nothing detected in pelvic wash. When my hysterectomy was performed,(including the fallopian tubes and…

Heparin flush for port--maybe not a good idea?
I posted this on the ovarian cancer discussion board and thought this board might be interested in this information: Information about heparin promoting neoangiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels) is in the Aug/Sept 2011 issue of the Townsend Letter. The article is all about how WONDERFUL heparin and something called…

I was recently diagnosed with papillary adenocarcinoma - probable endometroid type. I am 27 and I do not have kids yet. I have not yet spoken to an oncologist about this diagnoses and what It means. September
I just learned that September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month. I haven't seen anything on TV, haven't seen everyone and his/her brother wearing teal or peach ribbons, haven't heard nor seen a peep about it. I was at the market this afternoon and there was that stupid wine display with the pink ribbon, tho! I am very…

Special questions for a "second opinion"?
Dear all, Tomorrow morning I have my appointment with another gyn-onc at a completely different cancer center. I'm realizing now (belatedly) that I need to formulate some questions to ask--and I could use your help. I think I want to know his basic approach to treatment & to working with patients, first. One of my biggest…

Ginger, Beta-Carotene, and Anti-Fungals
Thanks, Jill, for starting to gather all the pertinent information on foods' anti-cancer properties. A huge job, but invaluable to us! Having read through the responses to her first posting on ginger, would like to add the following: I'm a firm believer in the efficacy of ginger. Years ago, a very annoying tremor in my…

Genetic Counseling/Testing
Has anyone here had genetic counseling or testing? I am scheduled to start this in a couple of weeks and find it appalling how little I know about my ancestors' health. I guess it is typical because back then, people were very secretive. A cousin of mine who is our family's genealogist has been helping me - he knows how to…

Went for my 1 year 3 month. check up at MD Anderson. CA 125 is up from a steady 21 to 41. Doctor was concerned. Asked me what I wanted to do. Wait and do another CA 125 or have a CT scan to rule out any problems. It has been a year since my last CT scan. Pelvic exam was negative. I opted for the CT scan on May 17. To make…

UPSC: applicable findings from ovarian cancer research
I am new on this board, but I spend a lot of time on the ovarian cancer board on inspire.com since originally I thought I had ovarian cancer, and later because I learned that UPSC behaves very much like ovarian cancer and has similar prognosis and outlook. In fact, other than the fact the primary site of UPSC is uterine,…

UPSC, Avastin insurance coverage/denial
My mother lost her first-round appeal w/Independence Blue Cross today. They will only give Avastin as a single-agent, and the doc wants to give it with Taxol. The initial denial was a one-page "not medically necessary." We made our case for medical necessity in the appeal. The appeal was denied and the new denial is…

HE4 As Prognostic Marker In Endometrial Cancer
The 17th International European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) meeting runs from September 11 through the 14th in Milan, Italy. Pap tests after surgery
Help me understand this. For the 1-2 years my gyn-onc has not done any pap tests. I has TAH 3 years ago and got paps for about a year after. When he stopped doing them I inquired. He said it's not necessary "because there's nothing to test". I discussed this with my PCP recently and she agreed. My understanding is that…

B12 and Folic Acid
Does anyone, who is a vegetarian or vegan, take B12 and Folic Acid? My doctor recommended me both, because he said I am anemic. I guess the chemo hurt me up a little. I am currently taking 500mcg of B12 and 1 mg of Folic Acid. I am also taking a multivitamin that supposedly has 100% of B12 daily intake as well as Folic…

Ca 125 rising already
My CA 125 went from 43.7 to 84.4. It has been 8 weeks since my last chemo. I was disappointed that it was that high already. When I finished my first round of chemo my CA 125 started to rise irght away, but it was more slowly. I will continue to be in observation. I will have repeat lab and a CAT scan in October. We are…

The Lymph System, Nodes, etc. and their role in helping manage cancer
Here is a link which does a decent job explaining the lymph system and how it works. It is presented mostly for those with issues with lymphedema but the how's and why's are useful in general. The info on direction of flow I found particularly helpful. I had posted this in the thread with Claudia's post on how cancer…
