Crazy journey
I've posted a couple times since being diagnosed with clear cell renal carcinoma and my surgery to remove the mass. My journey has been kind of backward. I wasn't diagnosed until the stage 1, grade 3 mass was removed.I never had a chest ct and was instructed by my urologist he would perform an ultrasound in 6 months to…

Shouldnt these Docs be talking?
I mentioned a few weeks ago that my first post op scan showed a lesion in my remaining kidney. The oncologist clinic did not have my original pre surgery scan. So when I met with the Onc he suggested we up the frequency of the scans based on the apprearance of the lesion (8mm). Scans were scheduled for May based on this. A…

Scan Results!
Well at long last I have had a bone scan, all was clear thank goodness!! The scan was dealt with by a top Radioligist along with her trusty side kick, so I feel that at last the results can be trusted. This will be a novelty for me bearing in mind the issues I had with previous ones. I just have to have a brain scan now…

3 years later
When I was diagnosed with my kidney cancer in 2011 my first reaction was..... "I can't have cancer.... I'm taking care of my mom with cancer!" then it was " how did something that big grow inside of me without me knowing it?" I felt like my body had betrayed me!! It was just a fast track to removing my left kidney and they…

Support Groups
This forum is all the support group that I want. Posting daily lets a ton of steam out of my pressure cooker. It is so valuable to me. But that being said, the KidneyCancer.org is sponsoring a support group meeting at the Smilow Cancer Hospital @ Yale New Haven next friday, April 4th. I am thinking about going. Less for…

Got myself an Oncologist appointment
For those of you that don't remember, I had an open partial at the start of March for a 2.2cm tumor. The surgery went well, but I had some doubts about the opinions on follow up scans that my surgeon has. At the recommendation of several people on this board, I made an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic with an oncologist…

CT Scan Results tomorrow
I had my first folllow up CT scan on March 27th and tomorrow I go for my results. (My path report of the 13 cm tumor was Stage PT3aM0N0 Grade 2). I am feeling optimistic that this will show up NED. (But I am also curious if anyone out there ever got a NON-NED report after their first follow up scan?) That being said....is…

Nivolumab Scan Results-New Met
I had a scan on Thursday and it was my first "bad" scan since starting on Nivolumab in Feb. 2013. There is a new 6mm met in the lower lobe of my right lung. Everything else remained clear. When we looked back at previous January scan, it was actually there at 3-4 mm and was viewed as a blood vessel. In the back of my mind,…

Statin Use
Hi all Anyone have any input on the effect of statins on the solitary kidney. A little background, I had a radical nephrectomy of left kidney on May 1st last year. November check up all was well and kidney function was great. Couple of months ago primary care insisted on low dose statin for moderately high cholesterol,…

MRI of the Spine!
Hi Everyone, I have been doing really well. Had Brain MRI and everything was good. No sign of left over cancer and nothing new going on in there, which I was very grateful about. Mentioned some back pain to the Doc, and he was extremely concerned. So I am scheduled for a full spine MRI on this Saturday, the 22 and getting…

Newbie Post: Mets when kidney tumors are small?
Hi! I've been lurking on this board for a while (as I wait and wait and wait for my appointment with the urologist to get here). Here's my story: I'm a 32-year-old woman who had elevated liver enzymes during a physical at the end of last year. My GI sent me for an abdominal ultrasound. My liver was fine (or so the…

Help understanding the Fuhrman staging!
Need help understanding this staging: Fuhrman grade 2/4. Why is it a 2 AND a 4? What does that mean? Had radical left nephrectomy, tumor in upper pole between the artery/vein so that is why I needed a radical. Limted to kidney Renal cell carcinoma, clear cell type Fuhrman grade 2/4 Lymph-vascular = Not identified Staging:…

Latest scan
Today I saw the doctor for results of both CT and whole body bone scan - some more slight increase in tumours but L1 lesion is still stable and nothing new in the bones. Oncologist wants the films reviewed by radiologist who did previous scans to confirm measurements as increase by more than 20% (currently measured @…

New renal cell carcinoma dx
Hey everyone. My renal mass was found incidentally by ct due to other issues. My doctor did not confirm a cancer diagnosis until after I had a left partial nephrectomy for a 2 cm mass. Pathology reports show renal cell carcinoma. This is fever scary to me. I'm a 31 year old healthy mom of two. I'm still in shock really at…

Follow up Appointments/ Scans ?
Hi everyone. I had an open partial back on 3/6/2014 and I am slowly getting on with my life. (actually started back at work today) I was looking to get some opinions on follow up scans based on your experiences. My surgeon, seems to think I would be fine with bloodwork and a chest x-ray six months post-surgery, and then…

phantom parts
After 10 days, I finally got results on a follow-up ct. It took so long because the report had to be ammended to include the impression of a 1.5 cm splenule (previously reported)...the REASON for the f/u ct, in the first place...AND duly noted in my records as being one of two purposes for chest, abd and pelvis scans.
