Hi Everyone, Week three is complete today! 4 more to go.. We've had a rough go of it this week. Since he is BOT radiation,(no surgery) his tongue is really tore up. As most of you saw on a previous post, they refuse to put lidocaine in his MM for fear of aspiration to the lungs due to the condition of tongue, I guess. So I…

Update on my Mom
My Mom is doing great and ready to leave the hospital following successful laposcopic surgery for stomach cancer. Pathology report came back clean. A couple of hurdles over the last two weeks but at age 87 that was to be expected. She will be going to a care center for rehab to continue rebuilding her strength before…

Headache
My husband just finished radiation #7 yesterday. Doing pretty well and still eating well...in fact seems like his appetite has increased. The radiation peeps told us at about the 10th treatment it starts to get alot rougher. He had a rough bout the first week but I attribute that to the chemo and since then seems like the…

Vital Stim Therapy
I'm going on 8 weeks since my last rad treatment. Had my body scan last week-alls good. My problem is I can't eat. Anything with any texture to it causes immediate gagging. I can do liquids and puddings but after a visit with my Speech Pathologist and a "swallow test" she's putting me on a therapeutic feeding schedule and…

We start our third week of treatment tomorrow and on thursday he will be getting his second round of Cisplatin. Did fairly well with the first but am wondering will the second round be more difficult. Does the chemo have a cumulative effect? Also, doing ok with radiation. He is only having the right side of the neck…

Has anyone had hypercalcemia
I am trying to figure out what impact hypercalcemia will have on his outcome. He has stage IV BOT cancer. He had a 4.5 cm cancerous tumor removed in July 2012. That lymph node showed extracapsilar spread. A BOT tumor removed September 19 with clean margins. He is scheduled to start chemo and radiation on Tuesday. As of now…

Pregnancy after cancer?
My husband and I are ready for another baby. Seems simple enough, right? Oh to have the days back when a decision like this would be simple and cancer played no part in the process! I finished treatment in June, only radiation no chemo. I had a clean MRI and chest x-ray. So far every thing looks good. I visited my OBGYN…

ROLL CALL, JANUARY 2011
Roll call was established a couple of years ago so individuals can briefly view the status of all who were treated for head and neck cancer. Only names of those who enrolled will be listed. An update will be provided in January and July of each year. In the past, I included the status of the individual. This takes a lot of…

Oh, what a shinner!
Biopsy, check. Nothing conclusive, need to wait until next Friday. Took the bandage off last night--I don't know why I didn't think about that. At least the headache has gone with all of the meds I am taking.

Lhermittes
Hello All! Just checking in, it's been a while. I've had computer problems, ugh! Anyway just wondering if any of you out there have been effected by Lhermitte's syndrome? I'm wondering how long it lasts? For those of you that are unaware of this crazy thing it is a sort of an electrical shock that goes down your back and…

NEDDY O'NED
Had my first PET-CT scan on Saturday and ran home to look at the cd. Everything looked good to me --> NED Do it Yourself. I was not as brave as Skiffin to announce it to the public, though. Just came back from the doctor office who confirmed my self-diagnosis --> Officially NED. For the newbies: I was diagnosed in February…

Advanced NPC NED
Diagnosed stage IV NPC in April this year, finished treatment in early October and my last PET scan showed NED! I would share some of my own experiences in hope that they could be useful to new comers. First of all, a little bit of background. I am a 40-year old male, was generally healthy before this. For stage 4 NPC, the…

It just keeps getting better.
I sometimes feel a little guilty when I post the good blessing that have been given to me when so many of you are still going through the pain and side effect during and beyond your treatments. I've just come home from my visit to see my ENT at the University of Miami for my results of my CT scan last week and…

Poor David is having such a hard time. We start chemo/radiation on the 30th and he hasn't eaten solid food since September 18 and that was only soft foods. He has lost over 40 pounds. He is down to 139 pounds and to top it off he is starting to vomit. Not only coming out his mouth, but his nose as well. He is so miserable.…

Raynauds
I finished my treatment about 19 months ago. Have gained my weight back and life is beginning to return to my "new" normal. So I'm pumping gas yesterday and my tongue starts to tingle a bit. I should mention it was chilly out.the tingling seems to be progressing and moving to numbness. So I head to the gas station bathroom…

Can't wear my dentures
I finished my treatments 4 weeks ago. I feel much better and I thought I could eat something but when i tried putting my dentures in, it was like they were too small. No way I can afford new dentures after all the medical bills. That's the only thing that's really keeping me from eating, I can't chew without my dentures.…

amoxicillin and diflucan
back on amoxicillin for 21 days. grrr. since amoxicillin is an open invitation for thrush to move in and party, my ENT gave me a script for diflucan. so the kid picks up the prescription, and it's one pill. one lousy $4 pill. what am I supposed to do with that? take it now? or wait until thrush hits? I hate antibiotics.

A confession.........I went to a witch doctor...
...well, not a witch doctor, an herbalogist...but my mom always called him the witch doctor when she went to him. She had laryngeal cancer, and went to him before she started radiation...her skin never even got red during her 30 treatments. I think the reason I decided to do this is this: Everybody talks about the "after…
