Need Tips....Treatment started yesterday..
Hi everyone! Well, yesterday was the start of treatment. Although I've done plenty of research on the cancer...now, as a caregiver, I need some help staying ahead as much as possible to the side effects and taking some preventative measures (if there are any)to treatment. Special thanks to Skiffin16(John)in being my email…

Cough
Hey friends! I finished 30 Rad treatments mid June, so I'm almost 4 months out. I have healed really well and I had a clean MRI and chest x-ray at the end of August. I've had a nagging cough for a while now...I've been trying to remember when it started but I think it's possible that I've had it since radiation. It feels…

treatment plan finalized
First I want to thank everyone who has been so encouraging to David and I through the surgeries up to this point. I also wanted to update everyone on the pregnancy. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage Friday morning. It has been a long hard weekend for me to say the least. Today we went to see the radiation oncologist and as…

Pet or CT???
Just wondering what the difference is between a PET or a CT w/contrast? I've always had a CT with contrast and never had a PET. My CA was vocal cord and seems like most of you are BOT so wonder which is the more comprehensive or why the difference, if anyone knows?? Should I ask for a PET scan?

Need advice
My Husband had his port placed yesterday and we were supposed to start chemo and radiation tomorrow. He and I were prepared mentally to get this going. Already we were a little concerned because this week marks 8 weeks since his surgery and the standard is supposedly to start within 6 weeks of surgery. Well we got a call…

Had to share this...
Randy and I went away on vacation recently. The two young girls next door took care of our cat while we were gone. I gave them each some $$ for doing so. I saw them today and they thanked me for the money. They said they already knew what they were doing with it but didn't say what it was. A few minutes later, I asked them…

Treatment starts
My husband, John, has his port put in today and we start chemo on Wednesday and radiation starts the next day. The unknown is all so scary but know that we have to go thru this to erradicate the cancer. Reading posts about mets to lungs is so scary...my heart aches for those that are going thru this. I thank everyone for…

not a blood clot
MY husband went to see his rheumatologist for lower leg pain on his right leg. She sent him in for an ultrasound thinking it was a blood clot. No blood clot found. He is going on 13 days of pain and seems to be worse at night while laying in bed. We have an appointment this Friday with his GP.

parorid tumor - not sure of diagnosis - basal cell adenocarcinoma ?basal cell adenoma ?adenoid cysti
I have not been offered radiation as they had different diagnoses. It was tubular and trabecular. It is thought malignant. I was told basal cell adenocarcinomas are usually 'ok' but I have increased lymph nodes and are round not oval and lost hilums. I have been told they cannot get all the cancer out between ear and jaw…

DID NOT THINK THE GOOD TIMES WOULD END SO SOON
Hi and hope you are all doing well. I was riding the high horse last week with my Carboplatin, Erbitux and 5FU manpurse along for the ride. Not one side effect as of Friday Night as I was watching my STL Cardinals rout the Nationals 12-2. Did the whole party box, yelled and screamed and high fived and had a great time.…

Don't like roller coasters!
Really, I am the one holding the jackets and getting food for my family in line. Getting back on the bus. 'c' has raised it's ugly head. The local neurologist only had the written report when she said scar tissue. I had the hard copy of the MRI for my doctor at Stanford. He looked and looked and finally said he did not…

Post treatment scans
My husband will be starting chemo and radiation next week. He will be having one side of neck radiated and will be receiving Cisplatin x 3 doses. He had BOT laser surgery 8 weeks ago and a right side selective neck dissection with 3 positive lymph nodes, one with extracapsular extension. Three weeks ago he had lymph nodes…

Am I a candidate for Cyberknife?
Had SCC in 2006,left tonsil, radiation only, had SCC again this year on opposite side of neck, radiation and chemo, now, lucky me, I have developed "pre-cancerous lesions" back on my 2006 side, if this develops into cancer, can I have it treated with Cyberknife even though I have been radiated on both sides of neck? Thanks…

Extracapsular spread
My husband had one lymph node with extracapsular spread so therefore, wil be receiving chemo with radiation. Question is, does anyone else on this site have experience with the extracapsular spread. Of course, I am worrying myself sick about this as a prognostic factor. Thinking if only we would have know a little sooner…

Doctors and more doctors
Well we went to see David's ENT today and was told everything is healing well and that he expected David would be able to drink by mouth again within the next couple of weeks. He had a swallow test today and he is still aspirating some of the liquid so they want him to stay with tube feeds only. He tried to talk the doctor…

PET -> Lung Cancer?
Today's PET showed new stuff in the lungs. 2 or 3 very small and hot specks. So I don't feel bad about vomiting in their machine (from the contrast). However, when I mentioned my recent pneumonia to the medical oncologist, he said recent pneumonia is a good sign in my case. In other words it could be pneumonia. My voice…

Lung mets. Here goes...
Hi Friends, Back in April 2012, I posted about my 60 year-old husband's possible lungs mets from stage 2, HPV+ tonsil cancer. Back and forth in my mind I have thought whether I should post on this board about our follow up, even PMing friends on this board whether to do this or not. Well, here it is: after biopsy, it was…

Scar Tissue!
Just got the call from the doctor. Scar Tissue! Woo-hoo. I can live with that, not 'c' just a gift! I still need a specialist and will need surgery, I can deal with that. Thank you for prayers and well wishes.

Cataract as promised
Had my cataract removed yesterday and I would be a liar if I said I wasn't worried/stressed going in. Not for a fear of the surgery rather the thought of someone messing with my eyes gave me the heebie jeebies..I should have taken a Xanax :>). The entire process lasted less than 10 minutes and I can't believe the positive…

Top 5 suggestions for dealing with neck dissection
I'm 10 weeks post-op for a modified radical neck dissection and here are my top 5 suggestions for the physical issues that I had. I am neither a doctor nor a PT but I have been lifting weights since I was a teenager and have studied the affects of diet for many years as well. Only one side on my neck was dissected and 59…
