Still NED!
15 months after treatment and I got the all clear. NED! Side effects? Well, that's another story but tolerable with meds. The thing that I need to watch is the heart. I had two heart attacks, bypass surgey and stents prior to cancer treatment. My RO is concerned about the effects of chemo and rads on my arteries. I eat…

Is your glass half full?
I have often heard the question; Is the glass half full, or is it half empty? Well as a member of this H&N Survivors group and the support I have received I can now answer that question: My glass has been refilled.............. Many times. Thank you all for helping everyone in our extended family. Bill

Skiffin - Barium Swallow Test Scheduled
Just a quick info.... I'm scheduled to go in for the above on Tuesday..., hopefully to determine the source of the leak... (which I'm certain is the connection of my stomach to my intestinal tract). I talked to my onco, whom is in the same building and originally had me see someone about the cyst on my pancreas.... She…

Symptoms after Treatment. Can anyone help?
My Brother-in-law ( who has Throat Cancer) just went through 7 weeks of Radiation ( 5 days a week, 45 min a day) and Chemo ( 1 day a week for 8 hours). He was doing ok. Couldn't eat so they put a tube in the Stomach, but other than that ok. Swallowing was uncomfortable, but possible. He was seemingly "normal" in terms of…

Lip sore
had two appts today, first one my monthly checkup. He said there was no cancer left in my neck. The second was a biopsy on my lip for a crusty red sore that never heals. I've had it for months and twice had it frozen but it kept coming back. The doc said to be safe they would send off a biopsy. It was a strange sore like a…

1 year out, myoclonic jerks. Anyone else?
Rob went to ENT and Radiation Oncologist Monday. NED still. Woo hoo. He has been suffering from myoclonic jerks for about a month. Only at rest at the end of the day. Docs are not sure why. Has anyone else had these problems, one year out? He will take the myoclonus over the cancer anyday. Sandy

Just need a place to vent...apologies in advance-UPDATE
Well, after the reoccurrence, radical neck dissection, thyroid gone, numerous "things" in the lungs, three rounds of Carbo/Taxol/Eributux, tomorrow is finally the scan day. Head to bowels and I must say, I'm more frightened than any time in the past 2 1/2 years. Intellectually, I know that the "cocktail" probably did what…

12 o'clock and all is clear
H&N Gang Had my 2y4m (post rad) exam today and I am relieved to report I am NED! After looking, feeling and scoping, my ENT said “everything is great”! On the side effect front, the saliva and taste continue to improve and I can stray away from my water bottle, but it would be a critical error to attempt to eat anything…

Skiffin Update - No News
Hello family.... I just wanted to let you know, I'm still alive and kicking, just not very high as of yet.. I don't really have much news other than I am feeling better with the IV fluids going in daily (18 hours). But the hole in my stomach is still seaping, though not as much. I'm still not supposed to be eating or…

Have Not Forgotten You, My Friends
Hope all of you are still beating the crummy beast. Please be strong, but gentle with yourselves. I have not left Kentucky yet as I have been in the hospita for 6 days with a mysterious lung infection. Started 2 weeks ago with sore throat which progressed to acute bronchitis & despite meds became pneumonia. A CT was…

Hello everyone. I did not post for awhile. My mom is NED for 2.5 years now, as some of you may know she had recurrence 3 times and total of 4 surgeries. Today she noticed something on her bottom gum. She does not currently have any bottom teeth as she had to take them out. She had them removed in may. Anyhow something is…

Lost most of my taste, sorta.
I never had any Chemo or Rad, but I lost most of tast on my tounge. I can tast some salt but that's it and not like it should be. I didn't realize it because when I swallow I do have tast, just not on my tounge until then. Yesterday I had my orange juice and cream of chicken soup [as everyday] and I noticed if I just hold…

Heavy Mucous...
I have seen threads on dry-mouth but what do you suggest for heavy mucous buildup. I am now constantly having to spit out huge thick gobs of rope-like mucous that I can barely get out of my mouth. I spit so hard the other day into the sink that the left side of my face started to cramp up. It seems here in Canada that they…

Thank God
Debbie got ahold of me and mentioned that Shawn was asking about me (I replied to your thread btw), but I wanted to just let everyone know I'm continously praying for you and thinking of you all although I've been a "no show" for a few months now. I'm still so greatful for all the advice I received while going through one…

Hello all, I know you all got things to worry about. But I need to let things out of my system! I have finished my 8th rads session today. I'm feeling weird, nausea is killing me and the weird constant taste & breath like metal or something like that. Starting to loose interest in food, but I'm trying to eat 2 times a day,…

Dry Mouth and Cavities.
Had a good talk with my dental hygenist yesterday about preventing cavities after receiving radiation. I had assumed it was because of the rads that the teeth start to get them and that is why we use flouride trays. She told me it was due to having a dry mouth and that your saliva does a great job at protecting the teeth.…

One year and counting. .
Hi All. For those of you who remember me, my brother has reached his 12 month post treatment. He finally got his peg tube removed a couple of weeks ago. He's doing alright, I guess. Unfortunately, his taste has still not rebounded. If you remember, my brother is trusting his ENT to find any recurrences. He has only had one…

Ensure - PLUS
For anyone drinking Ensure, if you haven't noticed, the PLUS has 350 calories instead of 220. I find it a bit thicker so I thin mine down with about half cup of whole milk adding another 70 calories for a total of 410. Milk chocolate is my preference. It's more expensive but works out in the long run because I only have to…

10 month checkup....NED
Had my ten month check up and the doctor is very pleased. Said everything looks great and it's NED. It was a long day, left the house at 9:30am and drove fours hours to the doctor. Had to wait 1 1/2 hrs to see him, he was running late. Then he called my SLP and made her come down and change my TEP due to leaking and…

Good news but hard times ahead
Back from vacation with sisters in Ohio and catching up with all my friends on CSN. I think it did me good to get away for a couple weeks of distraction and refreshment. I recieved good news the first day home, my condo is ready to close. But that good news is tempered with the thought of sorting through Jim's belongings.…
