The Big Day Came and Went
Hi folks: As promised, here's the update on how things went with Bert's new onc and future treatments at USC/Norris (major cancer center), after being able to get Bert unto my PPO insurance. Most of you will recall that according to his HMO protocol, he was done with his 5fu/leuc treatment 12/18/03. Although throughout the…

No one here gets out alive--Jim M.
I just turned off the tv news in disgust. Every network was yammering about about Michael Jackson's latest brush with the law. Why are they slavering over another celebrity in handcuffs when the real crime is all the milions of people out there lacking adequate insurance. They are forced to fight a cynical industry bent on…

suspicious noduls
hi nanuk, my onc told me colon often follows this path: liver-lung-thyroid......then maybe brain? for women it often hops over into ovaries and such also. PET can determine hot spots from head to toe. Most likely one would want to know where all the buggers set up camp. I know of no other tests besides CT and PET. peace,…

I just received this two days ago when I went back to my oncologist's for a second round of chemotherapy treatment. It effected me as I always was able to have them bill me when I didn't have the money. I guess nobody cares. My oncologist also went to Washington to fight this and lost, I guess. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR…

Fractionated chemo vs. bolus
Dr. Quillan endorces franctionated chemo as more effective and less toxic. I had it at the cancer center, but now switching to bolus with my regular onc. Had anyone have both and can they compare? What Dr.Quinlan said does make sense: if you drink a bottle of vodka all at once you might die, but if you drink a water glass…

"suspicious" nodules..
In 2000, I had mesorectal excision with wide margin, a permanant colostomy, & chemo/radiation. My recent CT revealed several-(20+) "suspicious nodules,1-3 mm in the lungs, and one enlarged lymph node which showed no change since last CT". Next step is a Laproscopic Biopsy to determine malignancy.. I'm wondering, esp. if…

Colorectal cancer news
Positive developments in chemotherapy treatment Cancer is one of the few areas of medicine where treatment is given intravenously rather than in a tablet or capsule form. However, in recent years, new ways of giving chemotherapy to patients have been developed. Oral chemotherapy is one such example of a new way of…

Beating cancer with nutrition
I got the book, it's fantastic. Thank you to whoever recommended it, I forget now who. The author does talk a lot about "underlying cancer causes", I hope he elaborates on it. What do you think are those? Everybody probably has their own, but can we call them something like psychological or spiritual causes?

Surgery, now Chemo
Hi to all. I have just found the courage to look for this site. Had a "baseline" colonoscopy in November at age 53, no symptoms, good overall health. 1 small polyp, positive biopsy, colectomy in December (surgery went very well, good recovery!), with a 1 cm polyp and 1 positive node, hence on to chemo. Chemo starts Friday,…

Symtoms after surgery
Last February my mother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. She had a complete hysterectomy and a portion of her colon was removed. Sticture after resection
I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer July of 2002. I'm 35 years old. I had a simoid resection and have had problems with it ever since. The radiation caused the colon to shrink up in one area. Seeking Balance in the Universe
There'll be no creaking of Earth's poles to be heard this night as our planet begins its tilt towards another season. Nor will there be weeping and wailing as awestruck primitive man must have done, as he begged the omnipotent gods to be merciful and return the sun to its rightful place in the heavens. Yet even as we claim…

Why Are Some People SOOOO Stubborn?
As most of you know, Bert was hospitalized about six weeks ago because of severe diarrhea as well as a colon infection and partial small intestine blockage.
