I've had a few lousy days lately and haven't posted much simply cause I can't seem to stop crying...most be having more and more of these menopausal moments LOL. Most of you know I've been so worried about Bert's diarrhea coming back as a result of more chemo to treat state III diagnosis in July 2003. So far, so good with…

Radiation Enteritis
I have just joined this group as, reading the messages, there seems to be alot of wonderful support for survivors and caregivers. Just what I need! My husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer last July and has had such a rough time, with complications too numerous to mention. Now he has finished radiotherapy and is about…

FIL Update
Hey all! We went to visit Grandpa who seemed to be in pretty good spirits....having goals such as...I look forward to kayaking with you all this summer. Life plans are good. This means he has hope. Unlike his ex, my MIL who tells us everytime we come to visit that she's just waiting to die. The doctors left a little pocket…

Go-litely vs. Fleet
When I had a colonoscopy last time in the hospital, they gave me a gallon of go-litely to drink, I said no, just give me Fleet, it's only few gulps and I am over and done with it, they said no, you have to have Go-litely because it has electolytes in it and you don't get dehidrated, and it is easier on the intestants. (BTW…

Excess saliva from chemo???
Hi to all you 5FU and Leucovorin veterans out there. I have just completed weekly treatment # 2 of my planned 24 treatments. So far so good, no noticable side effects, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. BUT yesterday I noticed that my mouth is watering! I'm not nauseous, no mouth sores, drinking plenty of water, and…

Hi all my semi-colon pals! My father-in-law is getting his entire stomach removed today due to cancer. I ask for your prayers for him. He lost his wife 4 years ago to cancer (she went very very quickly and died on his 70th birthday). I have to fight the urge to overload him with healing info at this point of his…

He didn't do handsprings because he is not using the positive attitude he should. ANYway yesterday we got some news that he has congestive heart failure.…

The Big Day Came and Went
Hi folks: As promised, here's the update on how things went with Bert's new onc and future treatments at USC/Norris (major cancer center), after being able to get Bert unto my PPO insurance. Most of you will recall that according to his HMO protocol, he was done with his 5fu/leuc treatment 12/18/03. Although throughout the…

No one here gets out alive--Jim M.
I just turned off the tv news in disgust. Every network was yammering about about Michael Jackson's latest brush with the law. Why are they slavering over another celebrity in handcuffs when the real crime is all the milions of people out there lacking adequate insurance. They are forced to fight a cynical industry bent on…

suspicious noduls
hi nanuk, my onc told me colon often follows this path: liver-lung-thyroid......then maybe brain? for women it often hops over into ovaries and such also. PET can determine hot spots from head to toe. Most likely one would want to know where all the buggers set up camp. I know of no other tests besides CT and PET. peace,…

angry >:O
I just received this two days ago when I went back to my oncologist's for a second round of chemotherapy treatment. It effected me as I always was able to have them bill me when I didn't have the money. I guess nobody cares. My oncologist also went to Washington to fight this and lost, I guess. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR…

Fractionated chemo vs. bolus
Dr. Quillan endorces franctionated chemo as more effective and less toxic. I had it at the cancer center, but now switching to bolus with my regular onc. Had anyone have both and can they compare? What Dr.Quinlan said does make sense: if you drink a bottle of vodka all at once you might die, but if you drink a water glass…

"suspicious" nodules..
In 2000, I had mesorectal excision with wide margin, a permanant colostomy, & chemo/radiation. My recent CT revealed several-(20+) "suspicious nodules,1-3 mm in the lungs, and one enlarged lymph node which showed no change since last CT". Next step is a Laproscopic Biopsy to determine malignancy.. I'm wondering, esp. if…

Colorectal cancer news

Beating cancer with nutrition
I got the book, it's fantastic. Thank you to whoever recommended it, I forget now who. The author does talk a lot about "underlying cancer causes", I hope he elaborates on it. What do you think are those? Everybody probably has their own, but can we call them something like psychological or spiritual causes?

Surgery, now Chemo
Hi to all. I have just found the courage to look for this site. Had a "baseline" colonoscopy in November at age 53, no symptoms, good overall health. 1 small polyp, positive biopsy, colectomy in December (surgery went very well, good recovery!), with a 1 cm polyp and 1 positive node, hence on to chemo. Chemo starts Friday,…
