some questions
Hi you all! I come to this board almost every day, although I don't write much. Today I aws told that my CEA is 3.4 by my Dr.'s office. A month ago it was 2.9. After my third surgery April this year, the number was 0.8 - 2.3 - 2.9 - 3.4 while I was taking xeloda. The good thing is the last CT I had less than two months ago…

Beta-glucans
Does anyone use this or have info on this type of supplement? I've done some internet research on this particular topic and have found very interesting information. It seems it's not too common here in the states but is routinely used for adjuvant treatment for CC in Japan and has been for many years. I've actually…

xeloda and headache
Hi. Has anyone experienced severe headache as a side effect of xeloda pills? I'm hoping the headache I am experiencing is due to something else (something simple. like stress ha ha). I'd appreciate any sharing on this issue. If you did have headache as side effect, any medication prescribed which helped? Thanks. Tara

pet scan results
So. I got pet scan results for my mom this morning. They show that there is something suspicious in her thyroid so the oncologist is sending her to an ear, nose & throat doctor. He said he could feel something there, but not to get too excited until we see what it is. The rest of the pet came back to show nothing…

Waiting again for results
Bob's(my hubby) PET/CT was on Thurs. We hope to get results Wed. Many probably recall that we are in limbo again, waiting to see if a spot in the liver is a reoccurrance. We elected to wait the 6 weeks or so to see if a determination can be made since biopsy wasn't possible, before possibly undergoing a second liver…

CoQ10 warning
Hi, While I was getting my chemo this past week, a few of the patients were talking about various things they thought helped or didn't during their chemo treatments. One patient mentioned taking CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q 10)... anyhow, the onc. nurse chimed in that she doesn't know about the affects of some of what they spoke of,…

What do you do for YOU?
We all know what it's like to go through treatments, appts., more appts., waiting, scans, waiting for results that don't come through quick enough, fear, tears, pain, lack of appetite, nausea and the list goes on and on. It wouldn't take much to find that cancer and it's treatment becomes the centre of our lives because we…

started round 2 chemo yesterday
hello to all my fellow cancer troopers. I'm new, just registered today. Not new to cancer though. I had a colon resection back in April 07, had to take my spleen out too. Incision got infected in ICU. Tumor was 4.5cm by 4.0cm at descending/sigmoid area. They took out 14 inches and 20 out of 22 lymph nodes tested positive,…

Anniversary Weekend
My husband and I spent our 26th wedding anniversary at the Poconos (24-28 Sept 08) and had a WONDERFUL TIME. We ate and ate and ate way too much. Relaxed, cuddled, and played some couples games. We won the 8 ball pool tournament and didn't do so well with the "guess who" pictures of celebrties and sports figures. My brain…

Ok, sorry girls, but I don't think you can help me. I'm not even sure the guys can help, but here we go. My husband had low anterior resection surgery on the 15th, the doctor had explained to us that there could be damage to the nerves that control erections, but he said that he rarely had this problem with his surgeries.…

What do you think you did that help you beat this disease?
Hi, I am recently diagnosed with rectal cancer in August 08 (likely stage 3). I just started neo-adjuvant radiation and chemo today and am interested in what you think you did that helped you beat this terrible disease. So the question for all survivors out there, is what things you did (maybe list the top 3 or more if you…

I was diagnosed in 8/06 with stage 3 rectal cancer. Went through 15 mos. of chemo, radiation and surgery. Had a great support system (family and friends), but did not know about this network. tomorrow is the pet scan
I am super nervous for the results of my mom's pet scan. I'm not sure what to expect. It seems as if we can expect something due to the rise in cea, but just what I'm not sure. I have distracted my mom as much as possible by just calling and going to her house to bug her, taking her shopping whatever I can. I took her…

Good News, Bad News
Hi Everyone, I have become so lazy about posting and answering, but I do read and sympathize. I guess it's my turn to kvetch again. Besides the bone pain I am left with after chemo (plus neuropathy etc), I now have a torn meniscus which needs surgery. I was SOOOOOO tempted to say the heck with it and limp the rest of my…

My Husband's Surgery Update
Ok, so the doctor put my husband back on ice chips. He was on a liquid diet and it was not working - he was getting bloated because it had no where to go. He only has sounds on his ascending colon NOT the decending colon, so the doc put him back on ice chips. He has a pain on his right side that the doctor said is gas - so…

I just want to share 2 good reasons why I'm so happy to be alive-our daughter has just told us that she's expecting her third baby in May, and our son just got engaged! We're just overflowing at the moment. Now if I can find some energy-guess who's the childcare provider for all the grandchildren? *smiles* Gail

Low bed... potential problems?
I'm not sure if anyone has even experienced this same situation. It's a silly question but here goes... We have 2 little girls (1 1/2 and 4 yrs) who sometimes sleep on our bed. As such our mattress was simply placed on the carpeted floor, we never bought a bed! It's a fairly thick mattress (almost knee height in…
