Colonoscopy for stage 4 patients?
Do any of you stage 4 patients still get colonoscopies? I have lung mets. I suppose it would still be a good thing to do in case there were polyps you could cut them out, right? Together in hope, Susan

PET scan question...
How soon after you have a chemo treatment can you have a PET scan? My onc. always told me you need to wait about a week. Now he is sending me Wednesday... 15 minutes after I get my pump disconnected. It just don't seem right to have all that fresh chemo juice running thru your veins and then put all that radioactive crap…

Just want you all to know
Everyone, I have only been posting here since the weekend. I have told a number of my family and friends how excited I am to have found a supportive, caring, compassionate, sharing and sincere group of people to communicate with. I will be honest some of them "just don't get it". I don't really expect that they would. That…

She was switched to irrinotecan her CEA went down and then started to rise. She had a scan and now she's back on folfox due to changes in liver…

JohnSFO is a colostomate
Hey Gang, The surgery went really well, although it took a long time (nearly 5 hours). We were really happy with the surgeon who did it as well as the rest of the team. They were going to see if it might have been possible to remove some of the tumor (which we had been told was inoperable), but once they got in there they…

Help Needed
Hi there I have been reading the posts on here for a little while. Today feeling nothing but despair I decided to post a message and see if anyone can offer help, advice or information. My husband and I live in the UK. My husband is 39. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May this year. By the time he was diagnosed the…

Hello All, On this cancer journey (or battle) there are the little things that pop up that are a pain in the midst of the big things. **** is on the chemo pump right now and he has the hiccups. He woke up with them last night and then has had them since waking up this morning (4 hours so far). I called the onc and he is…

Alternatives to Chemo??? Has Anyone Here done that?
My heart is breaking for everyone posting about recurrances and mets to liver. My sister is making me read Suzanne Sommer's "KnockOut" a book that interviews 10 Doctors disillusioned with the Chemo Industry and their alternative therapies to Chemo. The very thing I was hoping for- being resectable so my liver mets can be…

my PET scan results
Well, my PET scan results are kind of what I was expecting- not great, but could have been worse, I guess. My "multiple pulmonary nodules" are stable in size, but their uptake (metabolic activity) has become more intense in all nodules. I also now have a new liver tumor along the edge of where my liver resection was.…

second trip with Folfox and not liking it one bit
HI I am just finishing up my first round of folfox for the second time. I was DX in 06 and had 4 months of folfox in 07. Was clear until 08 then went on Folfiri. Clear for most of 09 but now back on Folfox. I don't know if I just don't remember it being so hard or it's just gotten harder on me, but I'm sick most the time.…

What to do...
Hi all! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My husband and I met with his oncologist today to discuss the next steps in this crazy journey. My husband had surgery on Nov. 9th (right hemi-colectomy). He's a stage 2A with no negative prognostic factors (according to the pathoogist and oncologist). All 32 lymph…

Will I ever be the same I was before all of this?
Hi guys, Maybe I’m just having a off day or something. But I’ve been doing a lot of wondering lately about how things will be in the future. As most of you know already, I’m a stage 3 dx April 2009. Had radiation/chemo (5FU) for 7 weeks then surgery August 13th to remove the tumor and put in a iliostomy. Now I go every…

Headache
Tuesday morning at 4:00 I had to wake up my husband to take me to the emergency room. My head was hurting so bad I felt like I had to hold it on my neck. I had a CT scan and some good pain meds and was sent home. The doctor in the Er told me to follow up with my Primary Doc. Today I called my oncologist because I still had…

PET/CT results today.....Drumroll.....NED!.... NED!.....NED!
Pinch me.. I think I'm dreaming!!! I was floored when the onc said "well, according to scan results... you have NO cancer left in your body...anywhere!" WHAT?...WHAT? Shut-up! no.. he was serious. He said that 2 tiny tiny spots showed up in the lungs but did not light up and were read as dead tissue being dissolved by my…

I got my results today and I am heartbroken!! the liver tumors have grown and a couple of new ones popped up. We are just devastated, I got the day off to digest this news and will start Ironotecan tomorrow. The Onc. said that my tumors just became resistent to the chemo. I just do not know what to do! I am just so shocked…

JohnSFO update Scheduled for 12/1!
John experienced another blockage and we made a trip to the ER on Saturday after a valiant but fruitless attempt to move it along with Go-Litely (the daily Miralax doses had stopped working). To make a long story short, he got admitted and will have a colostomy on Monday or maybe Tuesday. We had expected an emergency…

Calling all people who are on maintenance with Avastin
Hi, I have 5 more treatments on Folfox and 5FU remaining. So far I am responding well, considering I am dx as Stage IV. My doctor told me today that after these treatments, we will do a follow-up CT scan and I will more than likely go on "maintenance" with Avastin. Can anyone doing this now give me an idea of how frequent…

Back from Doctor
Hi All: Went to the doctor this morning and he wasn't really at all concerned with the amount of blood that I am having. He said that I am going so frequently and this has probably caused some bleeding from the lining inside the rectal area. I feel so much better. He said first of all I need to control the frequency so I'm…

lonely
I just want to thank all of the people who post and reply to all the people on this site. But, I have a question. What do all of you do to combate the lonliness? Sometimes I feel so all alone I can't stand it anymore. I come here and read the posts and chat some but it just doesn't seem to be enough.

lumbosacral plexopathy - Did anyone else get this
I am a stage 4 guy. It got my rectum, one node and my liver. They killed off 1/2 of my liver with chemo last year and last PET in August showed clear as did one in Feb. Get another CT tomorrow. From the chemo/radiation on the node, I got lumbosacral plexopathy. It only happens to 1 out of 300 that get chemo/radiation. It…

Struggling after my reversal operation
Sorry I haven't been more active on the board lately, and I'm hoping that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I have not had a real great experience with this reversal. I am going to the bathroom 20-25 times in about 2 hours, something that I knew could happen but was hoping it didn't. I am so…
