Tired, angry, depressed
I just finished my 3rd Folfiri with Avastin treatment. The bad news is that my cea actually went up from 12.1 to 19.7. I asked my dr if this means it's not working and he said no, that he has other patients who's cea has fluctuated like this. He wants me to do one more treatment and then scans. I am sorry to whine, but I'm…

Sister with Stag4 transverse colon cancer
Help me!!! My sister has been fighting this cancer for 2 years. I think her Doctor is not listening to her complaints. He told her you have cancer instead of listening to her. He didn't even lay any hands on her..not even listen to her heart beat. I am so furious. Her kidneys are functioning well right now she is gaining 2…

suggestions meditation CD for pain management?
I'm researching a good audio (CD, itunes, whatever) meditation for pain management. So far I've come across a CD called "Mindfullness Meditation for Pain Relief" by Jon Zabit-Zill (US$12.14 for 2 CD-set -- the first CD is mostly information, the second mostly the meditations). The reviews etc look good. But before I buy…

News and (maybe) action
Moores was fruitful. Not because I got a trial (I did not, and I no longer qualify for the one at USC) but because the oncologist there disagreed with my current team on having used up all my options. He believes I could still get benefit from FOLFOX. I discussed it with my local doc, and he agreed to give it a shot. If it…

Got my ultrasound results- update- got written report
I had an abdominal ultrasound and got the results yesterday. The reason I had the ultrasound was because I have had a hard mass that protrudes out from right under where my scar from my liver resection is. I've been wondering is it a tumor, hernia, scar tissue (as my onc thought), or even a swollen part of my liver due to…

Hello my Semi-Colon Family; It's been awhile
For all the newbies, I was DX with Stage II Colon Cancer in 2006 at age 42. I was a fitness nut, but did not take nutrition seriously, so this was a BIG wake-up call for me. Had surgeries, chemo, bumps in the round and hit my 5-year NED mark in July 2011, but this cancer beast will always been in the back of my mind with…

Treating This Is As Good News but now looking at Thyroid
I have posted a couple of times and I read about every day. Just got my PET/CT results and only one lymph node was positive in but the only suprise my thyroid had uptake and OC thinks it could be thyroid cancer so got to do a needle biopsy soon. Plan is to keep treating the colon cancer because it is more aggressive. I'd…

Vertigo
We were on a run of consecutive good days when vertigo hit this week along with diarrhea. Along with the bump in the road came the depression. Home nurse suggested he start taking Ativan for the depression but he is already taking Celezza for that and I did not think he should add another med but he is calling the shots.…

Folfox odyssey starts tomorrow, questions
Well, as some of you know, I had received conflicting info about whether I needed chemo or not. Between second opinions and the responses from here and the Colon Club, I have decided to go through with it and start Folfox tomorrow. I was offered it or Xelox and am starting the Folfox first because the dosage of Oxaliplatin…

The Recurrence of Recurrences
Norm (Kimo Sabe) posted "Food for thought (& some vitamins)" on Jan 7 about "Complementary cancer care: the use of vitamins and supplements" and their role in keeping people healthy. Very interesting and important. Yesterday Craig made his post on Recurrences in our Community. I had replied to Norm on Jan 8 with the…

Thank you, my semi's....update on my sis....
Just got the call...my sister is doing well. She came home from the hospital yesterday, no nausea after the procedure. Both sides sentinel nodes removed, she will learn in a week what the path is from that...but she said that the surgeon said there were 'no surprises' during either procedure. SO, thank you, my…

Scary Week
Sorry to pile on after a scary week with so many other setbacks for us:-( I have been in the hospital since Thursday night. I presented with massive pain, bloating, and fecal vomiting and diarrhea. Their original prognosis was a perforated bowel, which is kind of a de-facto death sentence for me due to the way my tumors…

Received email back this morning from onc (I emailed yesterday afternoon) and the CEA has gone DOWN .2, now mind you .2 isn't much but it ISN'T UP!! Other liver functions tests are back to normal except for one (I'll find out about that one in a couple of weeks, no sense pushing luck) so that's GOOD!!! Don't know what was…

9th Xelox treatment
My chemo regimen has gotten just a little worse with each treatment. Thursday was my 9th of 12 scheduled infusions of oxaliplatin and on same round of oral Xeloda. I've just risen from four days in bed, mostly in an unconscious state with numb hands and feet and muscle cramps, and I haven't been able to eat anything at all…

So much for surgery
A month or so ago I posted that my doc mentioned surgery, I was stunned. I've been trucking right along since being diagnosed Stage IV September 14, 2010. Basically living like someone with a chronic disease. CEA dropped to 4 within a month of starting chemo, tumors have been shrinking regularly (started with liver 75%…

Hello, My name is Bud and I was diagnosed with stage IIIB colorectal cancer on 11/29/11. I started the pump and radiation today. I am looking forward to sharing my experiences and hearing from those who have fought the good fight.

1 year today since diagnosis.
One year ago today I heard the dreaded words "you have colon cancer". It has been a year of ups and downs. I found out in February that I had mets to my liver and went from a Stage II to a Stage IV. Started out this year with a tumor marker of 337 and as of 12/23 I am at 1.0; first couple of MRI's showed 30+ lesions across…

My sister-in-laws cancer has spread more (originally breast cancer 15 years or so ago, then came back in bones and lungs last year, she was on hormone treatment for it, but it did not work) she ended up in hospital with one lung having a liter of fluid they took out, and goes tomorrow to get the other lung's fluid removed.…
