Friday ultrasound for right abdominal mass
All well wishes and prayers appreciated! Onc thinks its scar tissue (it's under my liver resection scar), I wonder if it's a hernia, naturopath thinks maybe a pocket of stuff from a clogged bile duct or backed up liver. Blood work didn't indicate a problem that way. Of course I thought at first it must be a tumor but my…

Food for thought (& some vitamins)
I just saw an interesting television show on the University of California television channel (4412 Dishnetwork). It was about "Complementary cancer care: the use of vitamins and supplements". The presenter was Donald Abrams M.D., UCSF Osher Center for integrative medicine and chief of hematology and oncology UCSF. I…

6 years after stage 4 diagnosis...there is always hope!
I haven't been on this board forever....I never "forget" that I am a longterm survivor but my hope for all of us is that the memory becomes more distant. I had my "last"? MRI in October/2011. I had surgery for stage 4/single met to liver in December 2005. When i went for my MRI results my surgeon said, "cured". I asked…

Gotta buy my own lunch???????????
So I have been through chemo treatments in several facilities, CT, NY and now CA. Just moments ago, I asked when lunch is served. I was given a take out menu and have to order for delivery. I would guess my chemo will cost around $15K. Pretty amazing that I have to buy my own lunch. I did not realize how good I had it…

Pain in buttocks and leg
My husband has had a pain in his buttocks and radiating down a little of his leg. He finished his radiation and chemo (Xeloda) mid December. I read in another post about chemo and radiation can lead sometimes to a blood clot. Should we be worried? Michele

2012
Not so crazy about the way 2012 is starting. Hubby was admitted today. Severe pain in the abdomen, total weakness, unable to walk, even with the walker. They have done scans, looking for possible new mass in abdomen. Regular oncologist still out for holidays, so I will feel better when we talk with her. What really worries…

A tad frustrated
Hey, I didn't post on Friday that I had blood drawn, because I figured I'd post today with wonderful CEA results. Well, I could if I KNEW the results! I called at lunch time today and had to leave a message. Even though I left my cell phone number, they didn't call back. I am assuming that since my oncologist didn't call…

Stoma guard and insurance
I have been fighting with my insurance company to cover the cost of an Active Life Stoma Guard by Stoma Plex and getting no where. Anyone have any success? I have been given an 800 number for Walgreen's and will see if they can get it and bill my insurance. I do not want to pay $148 for this nice piece (it is worth it) for…

Any Tips on Giving Up My Status as a Junkie?
Hi all-I've been taking Vicodin for almost a year now, and would love to stop using it. I was taking it originally for joint and muscle pain brought on by chemo, and recently had to double my dosage (from two pills a day to four) in the aftermath of surgery. Now I feel I don't really need to take it anymore, as my pain…

Pathologic Complete Response
Anybody else out there had or know someone that had a pathologic complete response to neoadjuvant chemoradiation and what they did post surgery treatment wise. I am getting conflicting advice on what to do. As you can guess, oncologist recommends chemo and surgeon does not. The surgeon has been involved in research on this…

Still here...
Just finished another round of chemo. It is however staving off the cancer as my baseline CEA started at 67, the next check was 36, and this one yesterday was 20.7. My Onc informed me that if it kept heading down that I will be a candidate for a chemo break about the end of March. Says I can stay off until they see a…

hard lump scar tissue or something else?
For a little over two months now, I have had a hard "something" in the right side of my abdomen- right under the bottom of where my scar from my liver resection is. It was bothering me for awhile, but now it doesn't hurt or bother me anymore, physically, that is. My onc felt it and said he thought it probably was scar…

Depression After Surgery
We are now three weeks post surgery and my husband's biggest post operative problem is his mind not his body. We have so much for which to be thankful for; pain is at a manageable point, bowels are moving good and wound is healing nicely. But he continues to be paranoid, anxious, and generally disinterested in the world…

HIPEC
HIPEC. I was told on another post that HIPEC would be a good option for me since they found a tumor on my abdominal wall which they did remove. I looked the prceedure up on line and it sounds very promising. It looks like only a handful of hospitals do it. I would like to hear from anyone who has done this and how long it…

4/2011 - They said it couldn't be done
I feel the need to post this on the last day of 2011, the most horrible year. 3/2011 - Had a complete blockage (everything was fine the day before). NEVER had any symptoms. Had surgery, 22+/27 lymph nodes, mets to liver. Had more scans. Not really sure but had in the vicinity of 20 tumors, scattered all across the liver.…
