That was quick... Glad to be home...
Home from the hospital today about 4:00pm. Had my takedown surgery around 8:00am yesterday. Doc said everything went great and things are working as they should already. I'm pretty sore but overall feel pretty good. Very strange though, they left a nickle sized hole in my side where the stoma was. They didn't close it up.…

Having to curb my sense of humor.
I tend to deal with life's dilemmas through humor. Called this my new facebook. My sister didn't see the humor. I'm usually the one who makes lots of corny jokes. I try to keep them tasteful. After spending the week hearing how everyone's father, brother, cousin, father's friend's uncle's cousin's grandfather died, I am…

Reflecting while recovering from surgery
So, here I am at home, recovering from resection surgery... I thought I'd google and find some inspirational quotes to reflect on... And then I thought I would share them for all who may be interested... Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant - Robert Louis Stevenson. I have found that if…

Surprise Visits
Reading the posts on this discussion board I know that I am not alone in this experience. I know there are many others, older & younger, who are experiencing the same thing I am. I realize that there are those who have been dealing with this disease for many years and those who are new to it. And this is an outlet for me…

Beach Glass
The Pacific Ocean. There is no other place quite like it. When I was in treatment, I spent as many days as I could at the coast, absorbing the tangy salt smell, the cries of the gulls, the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. It filled me with a sense of peaceful energy, enough to give me the strength to return to…

A friend of mine has a thyroid disorder and rectal cancer. Okay it's me. Hi. I am newly diagnosed. Found out in surgery on April 12. Long story (aren't they all, though). Following a black stool, had clear colonoscopy Dec. 2010 followed by camera study of small bowel (also clear). Then, after a year of problems (which they assumed was IBS) I presented in the ER with a hemoglobin of 5 this…
