Tamoxifen and hair loss
I have noticed for a while now that whenever I wash my hair a good amount of it comes out of my head. This is about 4-5 times the amount that used to come out. I am not going bald by any means but am starting to be concerned. It also comes out during the day, maybe a little more than before but not a lot. I cannot find any…

Lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy
Tomorrows the "big" day. I'm stressed, nervous, in some ways angry, and depressed. I am doing some laundry, cleaning off my bedside table, and clearing off the recliner just in case. I am making a little pillow to rest my arm on, have in my armpit, or just hug. I wanted to put a pink beaded boob on a little tag on it but…

Fosamax wkly pill vs Reclast annual infusion
BCBS would not approve Reclast for me...unless I could not tolerate the Fosamax weekly pills. It always is about money. So, I have been on Fosamax with usual muscle aches, night sweats, etc. Tolerable...but geez, it would be nice to not have to remember to take the darn extra pill each Sunday. So, my insurance changes next…

I was in a class this evening and made an off handed comment about jumping on a trampoline this week and one of the women said that jumping on the trampoline is good for LE. I looked up the 2 and found this article! I am totally excited to have a great excuse to go to sky high with my grand daughter. (most days I will use…

The Decision to have a mastectomy was a no brainer for me, next surgery option not so much...
I made the decision to have the mastectomy when the surgeon drew a picture of my breast and the precancer and DCIS in it as soon as she gave me the info on mastectomy and lumpectomy. It really was an easy decision. I hade my mind made up before I left but took a night to rest on it, woke up with the same strong conviction.…

PET scans semi-annually
Had my appt with Onc today. Last week his nurse called to let me know PET/CT scan was clear... But today I questioned necessity of having them so often. Had one in February, then again in July.... he said he wants to closely monitor me for the next couple of years...so a PET/CT scan every 6 months is what he recommends. I…

Mastectomy coming up
I have a consult with my surgeon and plastic surgeon regarding my upcoming mastectomy soon. I was wondering what sort of support garments, clothing, and anything else I will need for when I get out of the hospital and for recovery. I will not be working during this time so "comfy" clothes are okay. I just need to know what…

Dear New Chemo Patients
There are quite a few posts from women having a lot of ugly side effects with chemotherapy lately. Prior to my chemotherapy a year ago, most posts were about how few side effects women were having. Or, maybe it was just lots of encouragement that chemotherapy was "doable". While I was, of course, pretty uptight about…

Went to American Cancer Society yesterday
Just in case my hair falls out again, I'll be prepared. My sis and her daughter took me to help decide. They had a human hair blond made by Pantene Locks of Love. It took weeks and 6 ponytails to make. I took that one. My niece has a beautician who will alter it for me. The 26th ? I go to Look Good Feel Better. I sure…

Hi ho, hi ho Taxol sucks!
Well the powers that be won't let me work part time but because I'm not officially approved for short term disability I get to go back to work today to fulfil my contract. I'm telling you ladies I thought Taxol might be tolerable....it's NOT! My oncologist said it was an "easy" chemo I would like him to take it. I can't…

Has anyone here had any luck getting approval to be treated in an out-of-network cancer center? My sister was (2nd sister in 10 years) diagnosed last month. Is trying to get treatment in an out-of-network center with WAY more experience than the local or other in-network centers. Is she just chasing her tail? Or can she…
