The Decision to have a mastectomy was a no brainer for me, next surgery option not so much...

I made the decision to have the mastectomy when the surgeon drew a picture of my breast and the precancer and DCIS in it as soon as she gave me the info on mastectomy and lumpectomy. It really was an easy decision. I hade my mind made up before I left but took a night to rest on it, woke up with the same strong conviction. Easy decision.

I want my ovaries out for various reasons ,too much to write. I was supposed to have this done April 29, 2011, but the surgical office didn't have me sign the insurance papers that they require to sign 31 days before the surgery. They called and cancelled at 3 pm the day before surgery because insurance called them and said they will not pay for it. I was beyond p*&ssed.

Without going into details, because the surgeon's incompetent, unprofessional surg tech "transferred" some place else, I returned to my surgeon's office for a check up post mastectomy and discuss getting my ovaries out again. This time she threw in the option of having a hysterectomy which would mean a new dr. (which I dread because I seem to be a magnet for idiots) and new stress.

So I sit here now...ovaries...the whole shebang...ovaries...the hole shebang...

The surgeon gave valid points for each one and I am lost.. I have no gut feeling either way...

If I want the hysterectomy in November, I need to ask fast cuz the ob/gyns are booked and the surgeon said I can't wait much longer even with her pulling strings for me...

cept if I get the hysterectomy at the end of November (partner has a week of vacation then) it will interfere with ice fishing ( I was unable to last winter cuz of the BMX with SNB and right ALND).

    Lots to think about!
    I hesitate to weigh in because the pros and cons or each surgery are yours alone. But I think I would lean to just having it all out. Of course that's easy for me to say sitting here. But I had a hysterctomy in Dec. of '93. (It was vaginal so no incision healing etc. and I still have my ovaries.) Sending prayers for an easing of the decision. We'll be here for you either way!
