Dietary Approaches to Fighting Cancer
GINGER I thought it might be helpful to have one thread for all of the research that has been completed looking at the impact of various foods and herbs on cancer cells. I am going to start with the article below and then take my time going through all the posts and move the food-related ones here. By clearly marking this…

cancer treatmetnt controversy: alternative medicine vs. chemo
Ladies, are your following the controversy sparked by Suzanne Somers? She has been on Larry King and other shows recently plugging alternative treatments to cancer and disparaging chemo and the medical community in the US. I think we should look at alternative treatments and integrate these with standard treatments. Let's…

Change in diagnosis and question
Had surgery 3 weeks ago. I learned from my pathology report that instead of UPSC, my cancer is carcinosarcoma. Report says: "CARCINOSARCOMA (5.5 cm) consisting of serous carcinoma and a spindle cell mesenchymal component in a polypoid mass." From what I've learned online this is definitely not a better diagnosis than UPSC.…

Teeth issues
I don't know if any of you have had any issues, but let me know what you think. I NEVER had issues with my teeth. A cavity was rare and no problems. Starting in Aug I had a cracked tooth with a cavity. Filled the cavity, still had pain and the dentist said you might need a root canal. Endodontist said yes you need a root…

To eat or not to eat before chemo. 1st chemo coming up
I have my chemo instructions, what to take when. Instructions said to take oral steroid pills with evening meal and then again with breakfast. Obviously, I'm not real keen on eating before chemo, probably not even during chemo. Do oral steroids and claritin upset your stomach if you don't eat? Although you can't tell that…

Another with USPC
I was diagnosed with IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma) in May 2015. I had a masectomy of the left breast with immediate tissue expander and Alloderm placement. After many, many, many infections and other trials the tissue expander was removed in late August. I began hormonal treatment with Tamoxifin in late July. I saw my…

Infected port
I noticed last night I had some leaking from my port site. When I woke up from my nap this afternoon the front of my blouse was wet there too. Tonight when we got back to our Green Bay house I looked at it and when I just gently touched it, puss poured out of it! It's not red and my temp is 99. I called my doctor and she…

When are you a year NED?
Is it after the surgery, or after the treatment is finished or some other date entirely? I don't think I have ever heard any information on this topic. Thanks for any help you can offer. Michaelynn

Clinical trial update
So we met with the team to review my scans today. The tumors are considered stable, no new growth, no shrinkage nor new tissue. The surprise was that the scan revealed lesion in my abdominal muscle by my spleen. They are hoping that this is either a pocket of blood or possibly other fluid related to surgeries. It appears…

To keep ovaries or not - new endo cancer, grade 1
Hello. I'm a newly diagnosed uterine cancer (endo adenocarcinoma, squamous differentiation). I've gone to two gyn oncologists and both offer slightly different options. Both encouraged me to test for Lynch because I got this way too young (40) and I don't "fit" the typical case. But one felt he could possibly use the…

A little more good news, and Happy Thanksgiving!!
Ladies, thought I would check in and let you know that I had my most recent infusion of Avastin on Friday and my CA125 had dropped again to 14 (it was at 53 before I started the Avastin). I am feeling so grateful going into Thanksgiving and wanted to share that with all of you. My daughter recently pointed out that it is…

Anybody else refused Neulasta?
I have been miserable since last Thursday with awful joint pain in my pelvis, hips, ribs, sternum and back since I had my Neulasta shot on Wednesday. It almost feels like they're vibrating in pain. My WBC was 3.6 ten days after my first chemo but had gone to 8.3 right before my second chemo (normal range). I ate WBC…

My mom is starting chemo again
I'm in shock right now and because my mom doesn't want to share the news of her recurrence with anyone until after Thanksgiving, I have no one to talk to. After two years of remission, my mom started having lower back pain. She pushed her doctor for a PET scan and on Saturday, he called with the news that she will begin…

Losing my hair (and my wig)
I didn't know whether to post this or not but here goes. By the way, I haven't let anybody except our two daughters, see me without my wig. I spent the weekend at our place in northern Wisconsin with my husband and son. On Friday we had a couple of inches of snow but by Sunday, it was an absolutely beautiful day with a…

post frontline chemo update
One month after my "last" chemo NO single hair yet, anywhere...... Otherwise no change with the Neuropathy, not better not worse, headaches are less, overall fine. Keeping myself busy and distracted, so not to think about recurrence.

So tired!
I had chemo on Tuesday, Neulasta on Wednesday and I am so tired today I can barely move. Hopefully tomorrow will be better! Haven't had much bone pain but I was taking Claritin and have my Oxycodon if I need it. No appetite but I see a nutritionist the week after next to see if we can come up with a low cholesterol, low…

Chemo day
Sitting here "enjoying" my chemo! WBC is up and so is my RBC. CA 125 at 12.2 and my doctor said they won't be able to use it as an indicator. And, weirdest of all, my blood clotting problem is getting BETTER with chemo when it should be getting worse. So far I've lost over 20# and have to see the nutritionist. I'm just not…

In-person Support Groups
Just curious... has anyone here found any local support groups specific to uterine or gynecological cancers in their areas? Some here have mentioned that they have never met another woman with uterine cancer, and neither have I. I had searched a couple of times in the last few months and found absolutely nothing, though I…

I bought my wig!
Since I start chemo on Tuesday and my doctor wants me to stay home for the three weeks after, I made an appointment to look at wigs. My doctor and chemo nurse said my hair will definitely fall out, probably after the second round. I wanted something as close to my style and color but ended up with a shade darker blonde. I…
