Hi, new here and thought I'd say hi and introduce myself to the group.
I was diagnosed with oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer; tumor on lower right corner of the tongue. I also had a golf ball sized lump on the right side of my neck where it had spread to my lymph nodes. I was never told the official stage of my cancer, but by reading all I have, I believe mine was Stage 2. I had surgery in…

Magic Mineral Broth
Tried it yesterday and hubby and I both enjoyed it. It actually DOES slide down your throat like silk, even smoother than water does for me! Amazing. I couldn't find the Kombu or whatever that was, but everything else I did according to the recipe. I will go to Whole Foods and can probably find it. Did not burn my throat…

Trouble with brushing teeth and gag reflex
My husband has started gagging and vomiting when he tries to brush his back teeth. His gag reflex is crazy sensitive right now. My only thought was to take an Ativan half an hour beforehand because a lot of it is that he did it once, and then anticipates doing it again. But that may not be the best solution. Has anyone…

Numbing the Throat
We all use the Magic Mouthwash and it's my understanding they all differ to some degree. Mine had Lidocaine and about seven other ingredients mixed in. One was an anti-fungal I suppose was there for weird growths. There is only one I use that has a better numbing effect than the mouthwash. It is Lidocaine Viscous 2%. My…

Excessive mucus
I have mucus dripping out of what looks like my uvula constantly from the time I wake in the morning 24/7 that has the most awful foul/sweet taste. This is whether I eat anything or not. I have been to several ENT and gastro doctors both locally and get the same answer when they say they cannot find anything - late…

Staging-- what do the letters and numbers mean
I am trying to help Barefoot Bob figure out what the TxNxMx means in the staging of our tumors. I seem to remember someone had posted an explanation on here at one time (ratface, skiffin ?). I cannot remember myself and don't want to give bob the wrong info.

Olfactory neuroblastoma - how often do you have scans
Hi I am a 2 year survivor of ENB living in the UK. I haven't found anyone in the UK with this very rare tumor on any online forums, since my diagnosis, so I often check into your great site in the USA. I have found it to be really helpful and everyone is so friendly. I wanted to check how often you are offered MRI scans…

However in the past 2 months the tingling, pins & needles in his feet & legs has become an issue and some…

Losing Weight in Recovery
This is not a big problem, mostly just a minor concern. I finished my RT on April 3,2012. On my last weigh-in they had me down at 164lbs. Three weeks later at my Onc consult I weighed in at 161. No need for explanation there as I was still eating fairly light food. But now it is almost two months out and I am down to 158.…

Pharmacy Carry Prescription Fluoride Gel
Has anyone had trouble getting prescriptions for prescription fluoride gel filled? Through mail-order pharmacy (Medco). I'm always surprised by what my local pharmacy doesn't have, so this seems like an odd thing to get. I actually found some on Amazon (even though it requires a prescription) but I want to be "legit" about…

Question
Hi. I'm new to this group, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about the effects of radiation on the esophagus? My mother has had cancer for years (at least 15+). It began as breast cancer, but has manifested in several different areas of her body. The most recent, she has developed a tumor in her…

CT / PET results back
The findings of the CT: There is a soft tissue density lesion of slightly higher attenuation than normal tongue tissue, measuring apprx. 4.8 x 1 x 5.3 cm and involves the left lateral tongue as well as crossing midline at the tip of the tongue and extends to the floor of the mouth. This lesion does not appear to invade the…

laryngeal cancer
My dad had his larynx removed in May. Although it seems that all the cancer is gone, he still is having a very difficult time recovering emotionally. He isn't making much effort to learn to use his electrolarynx device. He seems to be very withdrawn. Has anyone had any experience with a support group for laryngectomees?…

Cataracts and corticosteriods--anyone know about this?
Blurred vision is a temporary side effect from hyperbaric oxygen treatments, so when my eyesight didn't get back to normal after a few months I went to see an eye specialist. He says this is not from the hyperbarics, but could likely be from the corticosteroids I was given during rads to control swelling in my neck. "This"…

Well....darn it all....the rad machine is on the fritz....
The rad-onc called and canceled my radiation today because the machine isn't working. They told me to call tomorrow morning, to make sure it's working before coming in. I'm trying to see this as a day off...but I'm SO wanting to get to the single digits for my number of treatments....after today it would have been 9... p

My sister made me some Magic Mineral Broth
this weekend....OMG a real taste treat (one I could taste the whole way thru). She made enough to get me thru two weeks (we froze some)...I'm just so amazed that it was so tasty....to her, it seemed bland, like most of the normal food is to me. Anybody wanting a high nutrient broth, that doesn't leave your taste buds after…

HALLELUJAH!!!
HALLELUJAH!!! PET showed no other signs of the big C anywhere but where we already knew about PLUS in 2 less lymph nodes than the CT radiologist identified!!! The only bummer is just because I didn't think about it but the tonsil cancer cells spread out a bit. No biggie though. That's what the chemo is for. Overall, I am…

Do You Ever Get Your Taste Buds Back - How Long Does It Take?
My 77-year-old Dad was diagnosed with stage 2 squamous base of tongue cancer last summer and had 7 weeks of daily radiation which ending the second week of October 2011. He was in oustanding shape before the radiation. He tolerated the radiation well and did not need a feeding tube. He lost some weight but still kept…
