New diagnosis-I have a Fur ball!
It is driving me C R A Z Y. All this hacking and gagging and throat clearing...and every now and then finally coughing up something that looks horribly similar to ear wax. I consulted with the cat (figured she was experienced in this area) but she just gave me a blank look and tried to drink the milk out of my cereal bowl.…

Unwelcome, Unexpected Surprise
We met with the MDA Rad Onc today. The good news is that there appears to be no lymph node involvemnt in the lung area, so Ron will be preparing for 4 Rad treatments on the lung which the doc feels will eradicate that tumor. I'll make arrangements to get his teeth pulled as he prepares for the tougher phase, the 35 H&N…

Was it BS?
Just wondering what happened to the post from this morning from the "17 year old Cody" who was broke but needed to see a doctor? I hate to seem this way but I have a feeling it was a scam of some sort. I want to be wrong but something just didn't seem right. If I'm right in my thinking it's scary because someone out there…

Old lady chin :-(
About a month ago I noticed my chin getting more and more wrinkled. I'm 7 mo this out from treatment and it seems to be getting worse. I am pretty sure the rads just depleted all of my collagen in that area. I'd really like to stop receiving gifts from rads. I still have Lhermitte's too and I thought that would be gone by…

Cancer and sugar
Hello, I've heard from a friend that sugar in any form, even fruit should be avoided (for a while, for me) to have healthy cell re-growth and prevent cancer. This topic has surley been around, but is new to me. I've done a little reading online, there so much out there. I'm wondering how others here feel. I find it hard to…

Just A Random Thought
Hello All, Just up late and thinking. I know, bad combination. LOL On the Colon Board, we have a member who swears by TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine). Since, I am relatively new to H&N Cancer and Lung Cancer, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with TCM for these types of cancer, in conjunction with or…

Stir crazy and love starved
I am having a hard time trying to stay chipper and hopeful. I have been stuck in the house for two weeks with the exception of the one doctor's appointment and chemotherapy. We don't have company other than David's mom and we don't want her to have to come out everyday since she hasn't been a widow much longer than I've…

One road ends, another begins
Well folks, tomorrow (Friday 2/1) I wlll have had my last Rad. I had a meeting with my ONC today and he predicted that the next two weeks will be the worst of the journey but slowly, after that I should see some easing of symtoms. This last week has been pretty rough starting with the Thrush, then a significant ramp up in…

Starting TPF induction
Well gang, My number is finally being called so Monday morning I begin the induction chemo series. Couple things different is the MO is going to start cycle one with 25% reduction to better ease the side effects and then allow for a 4th cycle if needed to get the full dosage. Other thing different than most is the 5-FU…

Balancing Act
I'm performing a balancing act. With the "right amount" of pain medication and the "right amount" of anti-nausea medication, life can be pleasant. Too much medication wipes me out. Some medication seems to wipe me out a little anyway. I am also having a little trouble with the eyes (focusing). I have recurrent iritis (a…

Clear Scans
Hi All - good news today, so wanted to share as I remember in my darker days seeing good news posts always cheered me up. I was most active on here in April 2012, I had what was believed a cyst surgically removed, which despite lots of clear tests (including PET) came back from the labs as being MEC (salivary gland…

Tonight is difficult
I am putting together a care package for my mom, of all the pretty headscarves and 'buffs' that I used when I went through my chemo and radiation treatment, and I am feeling pretty upset that she is going through this right now. I posted a couple weeks back - she presented at the hospital on January 1st with difficulty…

Does dry mouth ever improve?
Hello, I'm curious, has anyone had dry mouth (and thickened saliva) get better in time? (None of my doctors have said anything to make me think it will.) I'm not getting my hopes up, but I thought I had read in posts that some had gotten better. I'll be 12 weeks post radiation and chemo this Thursday. Bye the way, my…

Last Treatment.
Today was my last rad treatment. About a week ago I switched to shakes and smoothies as only source of nutrition. Can't wait to switch back. Mild sore throat and I am always trying to wash out my mouth. That taste is unreal. Doc says 2 to 6 weeks and I should start to feel some relief. It has been a long 6 and a half…
