Hi All, I am a new member based in Singapore introducing myself. I have however been through the discussions and am impressed with the wealth of information and also empathy and caring that shines though. My story in a nutshell was that I was diagnosed with a SCC on the left side of my tongue in early Jan this year. A…

I wish
that this was the home for esophogeal cancer too. My friends father in law was just diagnosed and I told them all about CSN but then when I went to check out that forum it wasnt nearly as helpful, friendly and resourceful as ours. Billie

Miracle Fruit Tablets to restore taste, stimulate saliva
Hi, everyone. "T" posted information about miracle fruit tablets at the end of a post on another topic so I thought I would re-post his information here so that others would become aware of it. Here is what T said (thanks, T): A tip/hint I'll confidently pass on as I've personally seen it's effectiveness. When I started to…

Weekly Chemo Visit
Had my weekly trip to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), my home away from home. Two things: Creatinine: My creatinine level was high. Creatinine is a kidney tests and the docs thought I was dehydrated. So I got hours of fluids IV. (Will pee every hour all night.) I can't think that I drank that much less fluids.…

13 days post-surgery - neck noose and increased pain swallowing
I am not too worried about this but I thought I would ask folks about it. I am 13 days post-surgery after receiving tonsillectomy and biopsies of tongue, plus selective neck dissection both sides. They found a small primary tumor at the base of the tongue. It was really tough after surgery, but I have been making steady…

Hoarse Voice - How Long Does It Last? - Really Got Scared Today
I am four months and about two weeks out form my last radiation and chemo. My voice is hoarse and started getting that way about a month after treatment stopped. It is not really getting any better. Mouth is very dry I think like most of us. Had a check up with my oncologist and he said, almost in passing, it could be a…

People keep telling me I need to go on a trip and get away from all the drama and sadness I feel here in Kentucky. I have went through my list of potential companions and there is not one that fits this time in my life. My friends/family in general don't get me. They have never had this experience and they get very…

Redundant Tissue in Oral Cavity after TORS surgery of SCC-II of tonsil resulting in problems chewing
My wife had a successful removal of her cancerous tonsil with good negative margins and a clear follow-up Pet/CT Scan recently. She still cannot eat normally however due to a ridge of excess ("redundant tissue") that is on the inside of her mouth interferring with her bite (if she tries to chew she chews on the tissue).…

Dental work
I have seen a lot of threads about how dental work after Rads can cause problems such as slow healing or infections. Just wondering if anyone has had dental work done after treatment without going through hyperbaric(sp?) oxygen treatments. My dentist wants to do some minor work that will mostly involve gum, but could also…

Need some more prayers and opinions
Dad is home from rehab and doing pretty good. He needs 24/7 care so it is hard since it is only mom and I. Home health has yet to be useful. Dad will see his oncologist on the 30th, when he was in rehab they found two spots on his lung. Can not remember where. They said his lungs sound terrible. Do you think the oncologist…

Pet Scan Tomorrow
Dan gets his PET scan tomorrow. He's cool as a cucumber, at least on the out side.. However, his paperwork is already in the car, hot food on the table and moving the paper work to the car was more important than eating. Then the wait... this place normally reads within 24 hours.. And the doctor promised he would call the…

Just when you thought it was safe to walk in the woods
Thrush! Went in for my weekly checkup today and was complaining that my throat was sore and that my mouth felt really like cotton. Not much of a white tongue but when he looked down my throat, there it was lurking. Never crossed my mind that it would come up again this far post treatment (I'm 10 weeks). He told me it could…

Second Radiation Treatment Decision
Ten years ago I had chemo & radiation in the head and neck area. I have just been rediagnosed, and had surgery for the base of tongue, and removal of 20 lymph nodes in neck. I suppose, due to the prior radiation, my neck is very stiff and limited. I am concerned about the side effects of the proposed second radiation and…
