Pet Scan Tomorrow

Dan gets his PET scan tomorrow. He's cool as a cucumber, at least on the out side.. However, his paperwork is already in the car, hot food on the table and moving the paper work to the car was more important than eating.  Then the wait... this place normally reads within 24 hours.. And the doctor promised he would call the minute he gets the results. Of course we will have a copy of the disk tomorrow, do I discourage him from looking? I remember folks talking about hot spots etc...

First....Dan is back in my pocket...

If he is cool as a cuke, then he's a better man than me, McGee.....Nice that they read it within 24  hours, so he doens't have to wait to hear.  As far as the disk....I don't know.  They don't hand them out here, and I don't know that I'd truly understand what I was reading....not to mention, anything that was iffy I'd drop in the negative thinking basket.  I'd much rather talk to someone who knows what they're reading and what it REALLY says.

    Why not?

<<Of course we will have a copy of the disk tomorrow, do I discourage him from looking?>>

If you have been reading the CT and PET/CT radiology reports all along then why not read the impression? You know the lingo and at worst case, if there is language you are not clear about give the oncologist a call. But you know both your own comfort and style about getting updates, do what is most comforting to you.

    The CD won't tell you anything..., it's the accompanying report that gives you the low down... I have always picked mine up the day after, and read them.. So far so good..., doesn't mean there isn't any anxiety going on when reading the report, until you get to the part that says;

    NE

    Hoping yours will be similar...

    scan this

    Kari & Dan,

Being cool is the way to be when getting a scan, but can the excitement of paper work really trump a hot meal.  Is Dan eating, what is he eating, what was the hot meal?

Next thing I know Don will be buying a PET/CT scanner and be offering scans and how to read the results.  I know with the lack of (H&N) scans he would have a lot of takers.

Brush your teeth and brush your tongue and prepare to have lots of fun.

    Happy scanning and good results.

    NjShore,
    Good Luck Dan and

    NjShore,

Good Luck Dan and Kari, I am sure you will meet NED! As far as looking at the disk I wouldn't. You could see something you don't understand and worry over nothing. 24hrs or less is quick enough. Just jump in all the pockets you both can(I still have fat pants I can fit you two and anyone else needing a place to be safe waiting for Ned to come pick them up.

My prayers are going in tonight, but heart already knows the answer, have fun celebrating when the call comes!

God Bless and much love to u both!

    Guess what is on CD

Ah, yes. The CD I receive have both the scan program, images, AND the report. When I have gotten the scan then go directly to get a disc then no report. My reports all turn quickly; initial report that day and final next day. So if I swing by for disc after a couple days, the report is included.

That's a good one! Hope all goes well today for him.

I like Matt's idea of purchasing a scanner...LOL. Maybe we could all go in on one and meet at Matt's.....hope he reads up on how to operate it before we get there! Foot in Mouth

    Nothing yet!

Thank you for the pockets and prayers and good wishes. We went to dinner tonight, I call forwarded our home line to my cell phone. I got so excited when the phone rang.. it was the pool man.. probably a bit more excited than he expected when I answered.. lol.

This doctor called Dan at 10pm before his surgery, so I imagine later is not out of the question.

They say watched pots never boil, so I hid the phone behind my monitor :)

No I am not nervous at all.. Mr. Cucumber across the room is fine..

I think it's time to break out ice cream...

    Wolfen,
    Funny your excited

    Wolfen,

Funny your excited for the phone to ring, after every test to this day everytime phone rings I have heart palpation, if I see docs name on caller id I swear I start having panic attacks, I try everyday to lay my fear down at the Feet of Jesus and just trust Him, and trust I do, but so hard to let that fear go...babysteps!

I know NED is coming, better be a gracious host if you want him to keep coming back! Lol

    God Bless and praying,

    No Worries!

    Rachel,

Can't think of anyone nicer to be confused with. :)

I completely understand the late night confusion that happens.. I am a chronic late night person.

    Stil Waiting!!

    Phrannie,

I finally got him to call the doctors office (who was suppose to get both the paper and pictures this am, first thing), and that was at 2:30pm.. He called them and asked if he could get the results -- they weren't even sure if they had them yet or not.. so thinking this wait and see thing could take longer than we thought!

Also, he could go to the center where the pet was taken and they'd give him a paper copy! - He's still sitting across the room very calm. But he's showing signs now and then that he too is frustrated.

Hopefully they call soon, the nurse said she'd call later and let him know if they even have it.

    Back to more waiting!

    Kari

    Good thoughts

Good thoughts and prayers! With my first scan, I was told that the results would be on the doctor's desk within an hour. Knowing that, I have always managed to get my results out of the nurse the same day as my scan. I guess the first time she tells me no, I will panic.

My post from Caring Bridge tonight... 4/17

I have thought many times that I wanted to write about how things that are suppose to happen and we are told will happen - don't. Medical professionals have a very tough job, but then again, so do I. If I say I am going to do something, I do it. Simple thing my parents taught me throughout my childhood. Unfortunately, because I try to always respond or deliver on my word, I kind of expect it in kind. It happens at work every day. It happens all around us. But when it really counts to us emotionally, it's not easy excepting less than someones best. This has happened so many times through Dan's treatment, I'd love to be an advisor to Jefferson - it'd be so easy to improve their patient happiness quotient considerably.

This frustration is all centered around the results of Dan's Pet Scan. He got the PET Scan early (had the appointment for about a month in advance). He showed up on time, cooperated, asked for a CD copy and got one, was told the doctor would have the pictures and the written report the next morning first thing. He came home happy. Couldn't ask for more.

Dan who is so sweet and patient, much more than I am, said I will wait and if I don't hear from the doctor I will call at 2:30 and ask if the doctors office if they can read me my results. This is his choice, I wouldn't say a word, although I would like to say, no, call them now! One of us is not a cool cucumber all the time :)  So, the Dr's office says, we don't think we have them yet, let me check and call you back. And they do at 4, to confirm they don't have the results. Then, he calls the Radiology department that did the scan, and they've all left for the day... at 4pm they are gone?

So, that means we will wait, eat more ice cream, and hopefully tomorrow have more news.. at least I won't jump 20 feet off the ground when the phone rings tonight ;)

    Have a great evening!
    Love,
    Kari & Dan
