Hi friends
Hi friends. I haven't posted or read in months! Things have been sort of sliding downhill for us. Jim is hardly eating. He's in excruciating pain, and they think it's coming from his liver. So right now he's getting down a couple of Ensure shakes a day, and that's it. Needless to say, he needs to keep his weight on in…

Colorectal Cancer
Greetings Family and Friends, Today, July 19th 2007, is my one year anniversary of the procedure that has changed my life for the better. It was on this date last year that I had major surgery for Stage 4 Cancer. Although my team of doctors were optimistic, the reality was that very few people advance beyond that Stage…

The Point of Cancer
On Wednesday our beloved Kathi started an interesting thread about the point of cancer, but unfortunately not many folks replied. It was a very thought provoking idea - the point of cancer. Thank you Kathi, for inspiring an opportunity for some deep thinking. I grew up in Southern California, spending my summers as a kid…

Update
Hello everyone - recap dx Stage IV with mets to liver and lungs. I am currently in Buenos Aires doing alternative and conventional treatments to beat the beast because I was told in Canada that there was little else that could be done for me. After seven weeks of treatment, I am now scheduled for a liver resection on July…

Whitehouse Colonoscopy
CNN has a good clip with press secretary Tony Snow (stage 4 colon cancer) talking about president Bush's colonoscopy and his own chemo treatment. A good message for screening. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/21/bush.colonoscopy/index.html#cnnSTCVideo Rob; in Vancouver

relay for life
I walked last night in the Monroe County's Relay For Life for the first time as a survivor, it was a real emotional time. I have always walked on a team in the past. They are hoping to raise about 55,000 dollars, this year for cancer research. julie

When did your side effects from chemo started?
Hi folk! Me again, I would like to know how side effects differ from one person to another. My dad started his chemo just 2 days ago but he seems reacting very well to Folfox 6 and had only hiccups as side effects so far. I was wondering if that means it would be the same for the next rounds or is it going to get worse…

Questions about 5FU and Side effects
Hello group, I've posted a couple of times about my Dad. Brief history. He had tongue/floor of mouth cancer last year and then 8 months later diagnosed with colon cancer (stage III). When he got out of hospital from colon surgery, he had a stroke 3 days later. (the stroke only affected his speech and miraculously wasn't…

My granddaughter sees my Dad
I recently posted that my dad had passed away on July 14th. Well my granddaughter (2 1/2 yrs old) was with her father all weekend and did not know about my father. When she came home on Sunday she didn't ask where "Papa" was and we were all disappointed because she was so close to him and he was so sad that he was not…

Day after tomorrow
Hi All. I go in for surgery day after tomorrow for the endometrial cancer I was diagnosed with last month. It was exciting to think that it would be a "clean" surgery - you know, open up, take out the offending organs and close it all up again. Unfortunately, that is not how it's going to be. Since my surgeon is going to…

The point of the beast...my thoughts
You know I refer to the beast cancer as a terrorist, well, Hum, just read part of Dan Brown's 'Angels and Demons'. There was a discussion about what terrorism hopes to accomplish: A loss of faith. In whatever it is attacking. With cancer, Faith in your body. Faith in your treatment. Faith in whatever higher power you…

HICCUPS AS CHEMO SIDE EFFECTS
Hi All! Strangely, my dad has non stop, chronic hiccups since he started chemo! Has anyone experienced hiccups as a side effect from chemo? Other than that, my dad has been reacting very well to the chemo drugs. Hopefully it stays like that for the rest of the 11 rounds to go. Thanks All!

Large hospital or small town hospital?
Hi. My father has just been diagnosed with rectal cancer. He will need to have surgery and a permanent colostomy. He is 64 years old. We live in Wisconsin and he is wondering if he should have the surgery at "Marshfield," a larger hospital or at our hometown hospital. Any thoughts on this? Would his outcome be better at a…

Is rectal colon cancer worse?
Thank you for all your replies regarding my husbands pain after his illiostemy reversal, it is so good to have the support from you. He went to his G.P. today - his surgeon is away and he said basically everything that you have all said. He does have fissures and he prescribed a cream. One starts reading things on the…

Naked Happy Dance with NED
Well, I had a CT scan, blood work, and colonoscopy last week and all came back negative. My surgeon did my colonoscopy and she said she wouldn't have been able to find my surgery site if there wasn't a staple in there denoting the spot!!! Yeeehaa! My CEA remains below 1. So cool. The only downside is that I might have…

Adjuvant and Xeloda
Question for others out there. I was dx with Stage II Colorectal last oct 05. Since then I've had pre-op radiation and Xeloda. Now Post Op I'm working towards completing 6 more complete cycles of Xeloda for Adjuvant follow up (2 weeks on, 1 week off). It seems there is discrepancy in the medical community over how much to…

Chemo stopped after 15
Well, I fully expected #16 today, but my blood pressure was really high and my platelets fell again after being OK last week. This was after being off for three weeks. Dr. said we will do a CT in a month to see what the "buggers" in my liver do. I asked to see the last actual scan and my entire liver is like freckled with…

FOOTPRINTS
I was sooo overwhelmed to pass this along to my family here: One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene…
