Liver Resection Pain
Hey guys. First I will say I am grateful to be healing. Of course I want the fast track approach but that ain't happening no matter what I do, lol. I wanted to throw this out there and see if any of you dealt with it. I am able to move and adjust in bed much better with the soreness. The big kicker for me is these random…

Travel Tips
My friend is taking my daughter and I to Arizona next month. I haven't crossed the border since my diagnosis so I have some possibly stupid questions. What's the best way to get my prescription meds across? Just take them in their bottles and only the amount I'll need? And they should be in a carry on, right? Will they…

Colostomy vs Ileostomy
Surgery last summer left me with a colostomy. With Lynch, I’m strongly looking at the possibility of an ileostomy later this year. Can someone help me understand the practical realities between the two, from supplies needed to lifestyle changes, etc? I already understand the surgical and anatomical differences, but I’m…

Hubby got an APR
We are here at MD Anderson Hospital. Hubby has his APR last week and he is still recovering. The colon surgeon is confident all remaining cancer was removeD. This was left from what the first surgeon missed. She said they tested the tissues and most of it was dead from all of the chemo and radiation. Richard had A foot of…

Alkaline Phosphatase
For anyone who has had a liver resection, how long did it take for your liver enzymes to return to normal? I had 20% of my liver removed back in July and my liver enzymes still haven’t returned to normal, especially the levels of alkaline phosphatase. Since surgery, they haven’t been under 300 and a couple times it’s been…

Radiation Questions
According to the doctors I have internal adhesions (scarring) from having radiation a couple of times. So they don't want to radiate me again unless it's for palliative reasons. I have a huge scar that has developed over the last almost five years since my initial surgery when I had to have a drain after due to an abcess…

Colonoscopy prep
Here's an interesting new article about colonocopy prep (abstract only): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30844973 I have been cheating on the prep (eating yogurt and drinking coffee with cream) on my most recent colonoscopies, and the reports say my prep was "excellent." Thank goodness my next one is in three years. I…

Xeloda, what should I expect?
They came in today, shipped right to my door with free samples of Imodium and warnings not to touch the pills with my hands. What should I expect when I start both this and radiation this Wednesday?

CEA Question
What is normal for a CEA level? I understood it was 3 and under. My doctor just called to say that mine is now down to 5.4 and that 5 and under are normal. I just Googled it and can't seem to find the answer. Can someone please tell me if I'm wrong? I'd love to be only .4 away from normal! Thanks! Jan

Sometimes ya gotta be the squeaky wheel
I am getting a scan on the 21st. I see online, they schedule an appt for results on the 1st. So I called and said, YOU EXPECT ME TO WAIT 11 DAYS FOR MY RESULTS!?! So, results are now on the 27th. Not much better, but better. This is the same secretary who would schedule my appts and not actually put in system, so I would…

Off topic share. Alash - Tuvan Throat Singers
Last night, my husband and I went to see Alash - Tuvan Throat singers. WOW! WOW! WOW! We live in a tiny rural deset town, and this was so totally unexpected and absolutely fantastic. Just saying, if you ever see that they are performing in your area, go. As I post this, I am remembering Pepe, a former member who passed…

Dark Colored Maple Syrup?!?
Okay, this one is just for fun, but hey, you never know: https://www.spandidos-publications.com/ol/17/3/2713 It has been previously reported that dark‑colored maple syrup exerts an inhibitory effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) proliferation and invasion. In the present study, the underlying mechanism of CRC cell growth…

Why Is The Pain Worse At Night??
I thought each day would bring less pain with the liver and colon resection but I find some days just bring a new twinge in a different place. I'm walking and moving thru the day as well as resting. It seems severe pain will set in as soon as I try to get into bed. I hate taking the Oxi but a few nights have left me in…

Scan results - Good news!
I have now had a follow up CT Scan. I am about 3 years from the time that I started chemo and a little over that from my surgery. I just got an email from my doctor that it was all clear and there is no sign of metastices in the chest or abdomen. I of course worried myself about it before I had it, just like I worried…

Choices about treatment
Hi, I'm new here. My mom was diagnosed with stage 3b rectal cancer about a week ago. She's been in the hospital for three weeks now as they did tests and a colostomy. They're recommending aggressive chemo and radiation (chemo continuously by pump and radiaion 5 days/week for 6 weeks) to shrink the tumor. After that they…

Decision Made-All Guns On Board
I couldn't get comfortable this morning so I am up with a heating pad. Thought I would update. I went back to MUSC Wednesday. They took out all of the staples and I met with both of my doctors. The colon doctor said he took out 19 lymph nodes and all were negative and that his margins were good as well. He still wants me…

The most difficult decision I will ever make
I have pretty much 5-6 days to make a decision about my treatment going forward. I have spent many hours and days researching and speaking to many people about a variety of issues related to my specific diagnoses. Thinking and obsessiving a lot. The particular compromising challenge for me is that I am mentally ill. I…

Chemo and nausea?
I'm wondering how many people experienced nausea with their chemo and which chemo caused it? I've had nausea several times but not associated with my chemo. I've had lack of appetite with it but not nausea. I'm wondering because sometimes people worry about that and I don't think it's typical but maybe I'm wrong and just…

10 Years already...
Officially 10 years NED as of today. I wanted to post my story for those new to the board. When I was first diagnosed all I wanted to read were survival stories. I knew that it didn't necessarily mean I would survive long-term but the possibility and knowing that others had was so important to me. I would say that now I…
