Ostomy Bag and Gas
I've had my illeostomy for just over 5 years now. I've never had a problem with gas or noises. I've had the odd time where it's made a noise or filled with gas but it's been few and far between. Suddenly, in the past two weeks it's really noisy and makes some very clear fart noises several times a day. And gurgling noises…

Back in the ER
wrll, my troublesome back pain that was a symptom of my last liver abscess is back. Since it’s gotten worse over the last two weeks and now it hurts to take a deep breath and I’m not getting as deep a breath, my oncologist suggested heading to the ER to get checked out. So I’m now comfortable in the ER after a dose of…

Some good news
I figured I would share some good news. Today is the start of my last chemo round! It’s been a long 8 months for sure. Next up is new scans and blood work in mid March for a new baseline. If they’re clear, we’ll meet with surgery a few weeks later to start planning my total colectomy and my hysterectomy. My oncologist is…

Try to read the tech
Am I the only one who tries to "read" the tech when they help you out of the scan machine. I know they can't read the results like a radiologist or doctor, but still, every time, I am looking for every look of pity or smile as if they saw or didn't see something on my scan. Yesterday was another pet scan to see if those…

Hello everyone. I had my first colonoscopy since turning 50 and the doctor found what he suspected was a very early cancer (he did not remove it at the time but a biopsy confirmed cancer cells). Mutations vs no mutations
So while I have been dealing with rectal cancer since May 2016, I have never understood the whole mutation thing. I know that sounds crazy but I just never focused on it. My oncologist told me that my tumor that was removed from my lung was rectal cancer but not the mutated kind. And that was all he said. To be honest, i…

Hello everyone, My husband has recently been diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the age of 31. Accuracy of CT scans in Right Colon Cancer
Here's a scary one: CT scans were inaccurate in almost half of the scans examined: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30870227 Of 150 CT scans reviewed, CT failed to identify primary cancer in 19.3%. Overall accuracy of CT to identify unfavorable pathologic features was 63% with sensitivity, specificity, positive…

Liver Resection Pain
Hey guys. First I will say I am grateful to be healing. Of course I want the fast track approach but that ain't happening no matter what I do, lol. I wanted to throw this out there and see if any of you dealt with it. I am able to move and adjust in bed much better with the soreness. The big kicker for me is these random…

Travel Tips
My friend is taking my daughter and I to Arizona next month. I haven't crossed the border since my diagnosis so I have some possibly stupid questions. What's the best way to get my prescription meds across? Just take them in their bottles and only the amount I'll need? And they should be in a carry on, right? Will they…

Colostomy vs Ileostomy
Surgery last summer left me with a colostomy. With Lynch, I’m strongly looking at the possibility of an ileostomy later this year. Can someone help me understand the practical realities between the two, from supplies needed to lifestyle changes, etc? I already understand the surgical and anatomical differences, but I’m…

Alkaline Phosphatase
For anyone who has had a liver resection, how long did it take for your liver enzymes to return to normal? I had 20% of my liver removed back in July and my liver enzymes still haven’t returned to normal, especially the levels of alkaline phosphatase. Since surgery, they haven’t been under 300 and a couple times it’s been…

Radiation Questions
According to the doctors I have internal adhesions (scarring) from having radiation a couple of times. So they don't want to radiate me again unless it's for palliative reasons. I have a huge scar that has developed over the last almost five years since my initial surgery when I had to have a drain after due to an abcess…

Thank goodness my next one is in three years. I…

CEA Question
What is normal for a CEA level? I understood it was 3 and under. My doctor just called to say that mine is now down to 5.4 and that 5 and under are normal. I just Googled it and can't seem to find the answer. Can someone please tell me if I'm wrong? I'd love to be only .4 away from normal! Thanks! Jan
