Cachexia - body degradation/starvation due to cancer.
has anyone delt with cachexia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cachexia, and has something useful to share about it. How often does a cancer completely starve a person. It's horrible to watch, but something my Mother is experiencing. What can be done?

A Great Big Arkansas HOWDY!
Zahalene here. Hi everyone. Haven't been around much lately, but wanted to let my fellow sisters and brothers in the BC walk know that as of July 3, I am OFFICIALLY a 25 year survivor. Don't EVER say NEVER. I am 63 years old (38 when first diagnosed), with a man who loves me in spite of my 'breastless' condition, and…

This is kind of an update from a post i wrote earlier "venting after surgery". The hospital called me for there after surgery survey thing and i breifly told her my experience this time around. This lady got so upset she wanted me to give her names and any other info i could give her on the whole matter. She told me…

First chemo done.....
Greetings fellow pink sisters! My first session of chemo is complete and it really wasn't that bad. To all the new sisters, it was not as bad as you may expect and it is do-able! I received a TCH infusion, as I am Her2+, slowly to watch for reactions. I sat in the chair from 9-4:30. That was soooo looong! I'm looking…

Not so good news
I haven't been on as much lately. Last night I posted some and then I wrote a new post about what has been happening and my internet connection went out and I lost it all. So here goes again. I thought things were getting crappy when I found out that my cystoscope in February was a new small cancer recurrence of my bladder…

We both mentioned it was weird that both my sister and I are right handed and had the breast cancer in the right side. My other sister is left handed and she had cancer in the left side. What is eveyone…

Let's water some seeds of joy
My heart aches over what so many of you are facing right now: Disappointing test results and frightening recurrences, loved ones’ health issues, even the loss of people you care about. I feel like anything I could say is just so small and insignificant, which is what keeps bringing my mind back to a quote from Buddhist…

Hello everyone. I am new here and hope to find information and support and an outlet when nothing else seems to work. I was diagnosed with BC on 6/10/11, and my lumpectomy is scheduled for July 13th. I could not believe what I was hearing when I got the diagnosis, I have no maternal or paternal BC in my family, and it was…

As always, "I do what I have to do, so I can do what I want to do"
I met with my NEW oncologist yesterday...I LOVE him! He spent an hour with Reggie and me!!! He has plans to keep me alive and vibrant and hopefully not needing chemo for 3 or 4 years! He is seeing if I can be part of a clinical trial ( he isn't sure if Tamoxifen would disqualify me)..BUT...the potentially bad news? He is…

I've been MIA again and want to give a welcome to all the newbies
and a hello to all my fellow pink sisters. It just seems like the days disappear so quickly. I am home today prepping for a colonoscopy and endoscopy to be done tomorrow. Not being able to take my arthritis meds I am in considerable pain. I can barely walk or stand. I see my rheumatologist next Wednesday and want to…

DONE! -> Tomorrow is my last taxol treatment (AMEN to that). Can you come with me?
Hi lovely ladies - Just wanted to say tomorrow is my last taxol treatment. I can't believe how fast it went! From asking if I needed pampers for chemo to getting 8 treatments with no port, all on one arm! I can't believe it. There is no way I did this alone. No way! God was there with me all the time - and he still is. And…

They're playing my song--Get over here, NED!
After waiting a week, I received a letter from the breast center where I had my mammo, ultrasound and MRI which said, "the results of your recent breast imaging study are normal!!!" I have a follow-up appointment with my surgeon next week in which I will bring the films for his review. Needless to say: Hip, Hip Horray and…

Gift to surgeon - is this appropriate?
I was browsing embroidery designs this evening and came across a design titled "A Gentleman and a Robot". See it on my Expressions page. As most of you know, I had a robotic assisted hysterectomy last year. I've always thought of my gynecologic oncologist as such a gentleman (and a nerd). When I saw this design I…

Tamoxifen effects - help!
I'm currently taking Tamoxifen and noticing several things: of course, the hot flashes/night sweats are unbelievably bothersome...but also, I can't seem to lose weight no matter what I do. Has anyone else gained weight on this med? And any advice about this steady increase of facial hair? Yuck!

GREAT news - some not so good news but not BAD
Last week after my 6 month exam with my PA, I had a bone density scan and a nuclear bone scan. The GREAT news is there is no signs of mets! The 'not so good' is that there is significant change/evidence that I now have osteoporsis - not surprising considering my family history and all the chemo/rads/Femara. So - since…

What are Tumor Markers and how accurate are they?
Hi pink sisters, Hope you are all doing well. I was wondering about what tumor markers were, and if they are accurate enough to identify cancer activity in the body. I hear some people say it just adds worry to the situation, while others are grateful for the test. They will be doing this to me to track my tumor markers,…
