It's back
My father was diagnosed with anal cancer (stage 1) in March of 2010. He rang the bell on radiation in July 2010. All of his scans were coming back good and his blood work has been good. In May of 2013 he started losing weight (from 8-20 lbs a month) he has gone from 310lbs to 188 lbs. We have been going to doctors and…

Three weeks into treatments
Things have been going well so far. Just a little nervous about what the next three weeks will bring. I have not heard much discussion about hair loss, low blood count or anyone having problems with their hands and feet. If anyone has dealt with these problems, I would like to know how they made out.

Good News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw my colorectal surgeon yesterday for my annual checkup. He said everthing looked fine. I am 5 years 4 months post treatment. He said he wants to see me in another year and if all is clear he will release me from my annual checkup and only perform colonscopy as as scheduled. Mike

Stool Size = Tumor vs No Tumor?
I'm down to my last week of treatment. Chemo and radiation for just 1 more week!! Yippeee! But, I have a question. When did you notice your stool size started going back to normal? Mine are still very small, which I'm thankful for at this point, as they are still quite painful to pass. I suppose I'm looking at it as a sign…

no longer in limbo
my surgeon called this morning before I left for work with my pathology results, it appears this was the final biopsy and the pathology came back with an invasive report, I will see her next week for my post-op but in the mean time she told me to call the radiologist today and move foward with treatment, of course the…

colostomy reversal
I'm scheduled to have my colostomy reversed on 4/20/14. My fistula healed on its own, and I will not need a resectioning. My radiation oncologist told me when I first saw him that I had a 100% chance of having the colostomy for the rest of my life. My surgeon said she would do her best to reverse it, so I kept that in mind…

In Treatment and new to this board
Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this site and have been reading many posts. First, I will tell you about myself and then I have a couple of questions. I'm a 57 year old VERY healthy femaile. My primary doctor jokes with me about how very healthy I am and wishes he had my cholesterol levels. I used to walk/job 2-4 miles…

The 'other' side of having cancer
I am now 8 years NED of SCC T3,N0,M0 and doing amazing. I am involved in local politics in my city and sit on my son's school PAC executive as well as the school district's looking after 4000 kids. I used to moderate cancer forums helping those stricken with this disease and I think I did it well. My son was a baby though…

Another checkup
I had another 6 month check up with colorectal dr today. He did an external exam. He wants to do a EUA and biopsy in one to two months. This took me by surprise, but he said it was procedure. I'm almost 3 years post treatment and scans and labs have been fine. I have labs and see oncologist next month. I haven't had a…

Radiation fears
For the last two years, I have been a stage IV colon cancer patient. A colon resection, a liver resection, and three different chemo cocktails later. I handled all of this fairly well and aside from adding doctor appointments to my schedule, my life remained normal. I was scheduled for a Y90 procedure to radiate the two…

How long does nausea last on average after pump out
Made it through the first week of radiation and chemo. Yay. Now can say I'm halfway through chemo. But it was rough. Constant, constant nausea. Compazine didn't help much, mainly just put me to sleep, which I guess was okay. Pump out yesterday, have a bit of energy today, but still somewhat nauseated. This WILL go away in…

Worried that "it" is back!
I was diagnosed 2 years ago and went through 2 rounds of chemo and 30 days of radiation. Doctors found no evidence of disease after 6 months, but the fact that it was already in my inguinal lymph nodes has always bothered me. Now I am worried about stabbing pains I have every once in a while in my anus and groin. I have…

The results are in...
Finally after 4 weeks of waiting for results (yes 4 weeks) I just received a phone call from the surgeon saying the "tags, the flat lesion and the pigmented area were all cancer BUT he says it hasn't become invasive yet. He's having me get a prescription of something (can't remember the name) but it's like a chemo cream. I…

Colostomy vs Radiation
I've been curious about something for awhile and decided to post this thread to get some opinions. After reading about so many long term effects of radiation, I'm wondering if anyone has chosen to have a colostomy instead. Back in my 20's I dated someone who had a bag due to Chrohn's and although I'm sure he would have…

good news this week
I had a PET scan last week and met with my two oncologists. The scan this time was clear, unambiguous. Such a relief. The last scan I had resulted in a follow-up biopsy because of an elevated SUV reading. So nice to have both doctors say "good news". More good news from my medical oncologist who said unless I feel the need…

frequency of rectal exams after radiation
I am starting to wonder about my radiation oncologist, but wanted to hear from others. My radiation ended in early December, and since then I've had various scans and a biopsy all of which showed no cancer. I am now seeing a colorectal surgeon about reversing my colostomy, and she has done two physical exams of my vagina…

I'm a little confused...
I got a phone call from my surgeon's office and the receptionist said she wanted to book a phone consult for me for May 5th. My surgeon is on a 2 week vacation and that would be his first day back but I'm confused about the length of time between surgery and getting results. I don't technically have a family doctor.…

Finally diagnosed
Hi! Am new to this board. Diagnosed about 6 weeks ago, had major symptoms since November, but looking back probably all summer. A GYN actually felt the tumor in December and decided what he felt that was "hard as a rock" was constipation, didn't even do a rectal, and ordered a D&C and ablation as I was having…

First Infusion Tuesday
Tuesday I have my first infusion of Human Blood Plasma Immunoglobulin g. I have CVID which increases my chances of getting gastric cancer by 50%. Compare that to smoking increasing lung cancer risk by 15% to 30%. The problem is, while the infusions have been proven to help a patient prevent infections, there is not much…
