Just had my yearly scan and Endoscopy at MD Anderson and everything looks great. I had the IL in 08 and so far, I have not had one complication. I can eat whatever I want and almost to the point of preop eating. All of you are in my prayers and I wish everyone the very best. While I won't turn my back on the beast, I have…

6 months CT scan
Hi Everyone: I got great news today, but I’m also very sensitive to those on this board who have had not-so-great news. In my first post last fall I said I almost felt guilty for being “only” Stage 1, and Eric “yelled” at me and said I should feel blessed, not guilty, which I have tried to do ever since. It was one of many…

They didn't see anything else there after treatments but I elected surgery anyway to make positive. I go for my first 6 month check up next month. These last 2 weeks I keep getting what feels like…

Mom home less than a week after Trans-Hiatal Esophagectomy
Hi All, I was shocked when I got the call that Mom was being discharged. Her surgery lasted less than 5 hours. Today she is very happy to be home, but she is extremely short of breath. I'm wondering if shortness of breath is a common side effect. She had daily chest scans and there is no sign of pneumonia, but she is…

I need uplifting or something
The last couple of weeks have been tough with the pneumonia and being in the hospital. I never do well in the hospital. Anyway, for the past three days I have been in a great deal of pain. Taking the pain meds hasn't done much and the doc has been working with some other options. I think the pain may be better today. The…

Mom's Post Op Pet Scan Shows 2 Lymph Nodes Lit Up
I'm absolutely devastated, my mom is still recovering from her esophagectomy and we had her 3 month PET scan results and 2 lymph nodes lit up right near her neck. My mom was shocked and I started freaking out inside. The same scared grieving feelings I had when we first found out her diagnosis 7 months ago came right back.…

Good Treatment Today
Just a quick note, my taxotere treatmen went well today. Have one more round of taxotere then we will change to something else. Tumor marker is trending upward slightly so in my view, taxotere has run its course. Not sure where to go next. Anyway, other than the post treatment fatigue and a slight headache which happens…

My mom is gone
It is with a broken heart that I tell you my mom is gone. She slipped into a coma 9 days ago and left me at 2:30 this afternoon. My brother stopped by to visit and I think that's all mom needed - her two children together with her. I was holding her and talking to her. She never regained consciousness. She took two breaths…

Port or Line for getting Chemo and Blood Clots
Hello, My mother had surgery a while back to get a port or line inserted in the upper left hand corner of her chest (near her arm) so that she could get chemotherapy. I’m not sure whether a port or a line was inserted but the item was placed inside her body under her skin so it’s not visible from the outside. My mother did…

Why no PET scan?
My Dad was just diagnosed with gastroesophageal cancer. His tumor is about 2.5 cm and in the lower third esophagus. What we do know is his liver is involved and lungs but no PET scan was ordered. If he had cancer in any other areas would the CT scan pick it up? He started chemo Tuesday but why no PET scan? Is that not…

Fishing for opinions
As some of you may know, I along with my wife hosted a "Paranormal" themed podcast regularly up until my diagnosis in February of 2011. We then went on hiatus while I was in treatment and ultimately, did a press release in early March that we were planning our final show. I feel so good that I am second guessing that…

Acute kidney failure :(
I don't know what to do. I've watched my mom lay in bed with pain for the past week while we get setup for chemo of recurrence. Today we went to the ER because she hasn't urinated in nearly 12 hrs. Turns out she has acute kidney failure. What does this mean for her treatment? What do we do? I know these are all questions…

Check-up News
I am 2 1/2 years post diagnosis and had an abdominal ultrasound and a chest xray Monday and got the results today. Great news--everything looks good--no sign of cancer. My oncologist had told me if everything was okay with these tests, there wouldn't be another CT scan until October, which means I am now getting CT scans…

I'm special it is "adenocarcinoma of the gastric cardia".
Hi all and thanks for all the support you have offered me in the early stages of this diagnosis. The results from my biopsy came back with "adenocarcinoma of the gastric cardia", which is a cancer that has formed in the glands that are located at the junction of the esophagus and the stomach. It has invaded the esophagus.…

I outlived my port
I started having problems with my mediport last week with redness which was finally diagnosed as a skin infection in the area. Well, the surgeon that installed it examined it and determined it couldn't be used any longer due to it being so close to the surface of the skin probably from some weight lose post-op. I had a PIC…

Don goes back for post-operative chemo AND radiation
Well - the good news is that out of the seven lymph nodes taken (everyone has a different amount and they take what they can see during the surgery) none had active cancer, two did show scarring but no active cancer. The pathology report was not what we hoped for - we called for the report and a nurse called us back and…
