frustrated
I traveled to SC, 320 miles to go to my endocrinologist for my five year scan. My previous scans have all been clear, but I was doing the atkins diet which I just found out may have given me false scan results. I did a low iodine diet against my Dr.'s orders to see if this one would be any different. My follow up…

Unsettled after scan results
Ok - finished my RAI last week, had my scans, and went for results today. Here is what the doctor said: The scans showed no uptake in the neck etc. Which could be good - meaning the tumors are gone, but also could be very bad meaning the tumors/lymph nodes are resistant to uptake of Iodine. In which case he says there is…

Yup. I'm on my 3rd recurrence of Hurthle Cell cancer, surgery number 5 coming on May 4th. Long story short, diagnosed with HCC Dec. 2003. TT Feb. 2004, followed by RAI. Subsequent check ups for three years, fine and dandy. 2007 scan showed a recurrence. Had another dose of RAI, but it didn't work. A year later had surgery…

Thyroid Cancer - Surgery Dangers
I had papillary cancer of the thyroid and had my thyroid removed on Feb. 19 - I am now hypoparathyroid. I lost my parathyroid glands in surgery and have lost a part of my health that will never fully return. They do not make a synthetic for the parathyroid hormone. The only treatment is Prescription Vit D and calcium in…

Thyrogen Yahooo!
Just had my second thyrogen shot today in prep for my RAI tomorrow. I feel great - a bit of a headache and a little tired but that's it. I went to the hospital for the shots, and went to work afterwards. Even the LID hasnt bothered me this time round - I think its because I still feel normal and relatively energetic. I'll…

Update: PET/CT Scan Finally
I finally had a PET/CT scan two weeks ago. I've only asked for one since I was diagnosed a little over a year ago. Since my CT and i131 scan came back showing nothing, and my TG count never went down, my Dr finally ordered a PET/CT scan. I received the results last week and we have finally found the culprit. It wasn’t a…

Effectiveness of LID
Hi gals and guys, After three days of my LID, I'm thinking it would probably be a good idea to do a spot urine iodine test just before I start the RAI treatment to make sure I'm able to lower my iodine levels enough. As far as I can tell from looking at my RAI treatment schedule, I don't have one scheduled. I say this,…

Esophagus Pressure
This is a feeling that someone is pressing down on my throat and choking me. I can eat, swallow, and drink but it feels like the esophagus is somewhat constricted. It started well before I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and continued on for about 10 months after I had a thyroidectomy in Feb. 2010. It finally went away,…

Upcoming Scan
I am starting my LID diet on Monday and my scan starts the week of May 9th. I haven't been told by my Dr. of any precautions I should take if any after being given the RAI pill. I will take the pill that the nurse will be double gloved handing it to me with tongs after taking it out of a steel container, the day before my…

a little bit of my story....
Im 21 years old and on November 19th 2010 I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. A month and three days later I was recovering in Memorial Sloan Kettering, after a total thyroidectomy done by the most awesome surgeon ever. I swim in college and if it wasn't for my coach I would have never found this surgeon. If it…

thyroglobulin antibodies high
Hi! I am new here. I had a TT on April 15,2009 due to papillary ca. They also removed 11 lyph nodes, where 9 were positive. I had the RAI in June followed by a WBS which was negative. I had a follow up scan in December the same year and everything was still negative. I never got copies of my bloodwork but doctor said…

Update
TT - check. LID - check. Thyrogen Shots - check. RA131 - check. WBS - Check. As of today, we are on the the downhill slide and I am trying my darndest to stay upbeat and positive. The only thing annoying throughout this process has bee and still is, this lump or knot that will not go away in my throat. Any sneeze, cough or…

Unexplained weight loss
I had a TT in the summer of 2009. I underwent RAI this past October, 2010 in the hospital. I am currently taking levothyroxine 224mcg. My TSH is 0.3, my endo says it's right where it should be. Since last year, I have currently lost 28 lbs. I'm not complaining about the weight loss, just surprised since I was told I would…

Medullary Thyroid Cancer Survivor
Hi! Just wondering if there are any other Medullary Thyroid Cancer survivors out there. I was diagnosed at 23 and I am a 50 yr. old female. I had 2 thyroid surgeries and was sent to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital for a bilateral neck dissection (3rd operation) followed by 6 weeks radiation back in 1983. I had localized lympth…

having trouble getting in
I had my second thyroidectomy April 6 and my doc did not suggest seeing an Endo until after the surgery. Now I am having trouble getting in to see one before the end of June. Maybe it's just me but I would think it is important to get the RAI done before that. Am I being paranoid or should I be pushing the issue?

LID diet
I am starting the diet next week and my company is taking us to lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is anything at all I can eat there and what the max iodine limit per day is? They can't understand why I can't just eat a salad and bring my own home made dressing.... Thanks Lynne

Afraid of RAI
Yep, me again *waves*. Please bear with me as I'm kind of using this as a place to get my anxieties out in a supportive environment. So my second surgery is over and the dr tells me there was no evidence of malignancy in the right lobe which is great. i'm waiting to hear from the Nuclear Medicine people to have the RAI,…

Upcoming RAI but still can't swallow pills
I am supposed to do my RAI on April 18th but I can only swallow small pills still. I still have issues with my throat like still not having a voice and can only swallow sips of liquid at a time, not enough to swallow a large pill. I tried today a 1/2 a large pill and I spit it out and start choking. I don't think that…

Radioactive iodine
Hi- I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer after undergoing a partial thyroidectomy. The remainder of my thyroid was removed three weeks later, and they found no evidence of cancer in this half. The doctor said that they caught things in the very early stages, my prognosis was good, and as far as he was concerned, I…
