Post Op Incisional Hernia Repair
I had an incisional hernia 7 months after Robotic Surgery. It was repaired....twice. Apparently such incisional hernias adjacent to the naval are not uncommon. Recommendation: If you have one: Repair it soon. I was told I could delay until the end of summer.. Mistake. Make sure that the repair is with permanent mesh. The…

Clinical Gleason downgraded before Surgery
When I meet with Dr. Catalona in Chicago last Tuesday (March 2) for a Consultation (yes surgery was the next day) I was informed that the Pathologist from Northwestern had downgraded my clinical Gleason Grade to a 3+4 from a 4+3 which he told me he rarely sees when they review the biopsy slides… This downgrade is important…

Post Op PSA
Hi All My dad was diagnosed with PC in April 2009. He was told he was a Gleason 6 (3+3), PSA 5.5 with 2 out of 12 biopsies positive. He had the diVinci Robotics in Nov 2009 and was told he was actually a Gleason 7 (3+4) and the cancer was more aggressive than they originally told him. It had moved into the seminal vesicle…

New Guidelines
Okay everyone, did you see the new guidelines for testing? They are quite an eye opener. I just don't get it. They want guys to wait until they are 50 to have the test done unless they are having symptoms. Afraid that the screening will do more harm than good. They are concerned about the risks of incontinence and…

Blood Pressure Medication and Leakage
Hi, My GP has put me on blood pressure meds-Lisinopril and Diltiazem- and I underwent prostate removal six months ago. Leaking has been minimal, almost nil, up until now and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar. On the way home from a walk I felt, well you know that feeling, a leak and found a…

I am 58 in good health and have been given two treatment options. My last PSA in February was 8.9 and my Gleason Score was 7 (3+4) involving 8 out 12 biopsy sites. Two years after robotic surgery, my PSA began to rise. It is now at 0.68. This is a low number but it was 0.42 in November so it is a concern. Radiation has been recommended. Cancer may or may not emit PSA
At our visit with the urologist today, I asked if all prostate cancers emitted PSA. The answer surprised me: he said that no, not all of them did and sometimes the more deadly cancers did not emit near as much PSA. Scary thoughts! He also said that in development is a urine test for prostate cancer.

At a loss. continued....
So I am unsure on where to begin so I am jumping in head first. My boyfriend's father was diagnosed in 2007 that he had colon cancer. I believe at this time he decided to treat the cancer with natural remedies, homeopathic Dr.'s and an organic diet. This seemed to be "working" (feeling better, looking better and keeping a…

How do you deal with the stress?
My Dad has prostate cancer. In recent days, his blood pressure has crept up to extremely high levels - yesterday's reading was 177/107. I'm certain that it's related to the anxiety over his unsuccessful surgery and rising PSA. How can he relieve his stress? I've given him some mediations to listen to on his iPod, but they…

Time for men to take a stand on PC
We have all read different comments on this site about Prostate Cancer(PC), and how little a lot of people know about it, and that many think it is just a slow cancer that is a good type of cancer to have, and it sure dosen't look like we have anything wrong with us if we have PC. As men, we don't push the issue like we…
