Valentine's Day date with the I.V. pole
I don't know exactly what's deemed "long term" but I just wanted to share that on February 14th, 2006, 5 years ago, I had my last date with Chemo. I've reached 5 years! I am soooo grateful for that. I just thank God for each and every day. If you don't mind, I'd like to drop in every once in a while and bask in what I hope…

Weather or not
Have you noticed that some people talk about the weather when they don't have anything to say? It's cold here. High of 45 degrees and low of 23 degrees. And windy! Burrr. I know it's winter but I can't wait until Saturday when it is supposed to be in the 60's. And here's the 'not' part. I plan on staying home and do not…

Hi all :-) I am new here, just joined today. It was encouraging to find this Long Term Survivors board! My sister was diagnosed just before Christmas. I'm looking for a group of long term survivors with the same condition so that i will be able to provide her with a web link to others that will help lift her spirits. Who…

I'm just being silly so don't read this post
Can you guess what song this is based on? I'm a cancer survivor, and I'm okay. I sleep all night and I work all day. I do the laundry and eat my lunch. Cause I like it a bunch . On Sunday's DH shops for food Cause he is that kind of dude. I do the laundry and like to sing. Good thing no one is around to witness the thing!…

Another day
Another day to smell the flowers. Another day to walk thru showers. Another day to sniff and blow. Another day to run the show. It's not all good but it's not all bad. Which is which of what we've had. Sometimes it's hard to know Cause one can be the other in the daily flow. Decided we needed to move this discussion board…

I am a Grandma WOOOHOOOO
Happy holidays to all, I used to post on the colon cancer survivor board, now I lurk from time to time. I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 3/2003. Had chemo/radiation, surgery with ileostomy, another surgery to reverse ileostomy, more chemo, DIARRHEA for 18 mos. and when I couldn't take the DIARRHEA anymore I…

Depression
I am a 38 year old male cancer survivor of 5 years. Other than my family, doctors, and select friends I have not discussed this with many people, and never thought I would post my story on a discussion board. I thought I was potraying to others that I was the same person, with the same feelings, and am living my life, that…

Having trouble being blue today.
I guess that is a good trouble. I'll take it. :>) Actually I wanted to show you my new Christmas avatar. It will only be posted for a limited time so look now. Is this legally a subject for a new thread? Guess I'm getting bolder.

6 years ago, this week.....
The day after Thanksgiving, to be exact.... I was told those 3 words, and told I had about 6 months to live. "Get your affairs in order", "Say goodbye to your loved ones"...all of that.... Not only did I survive that first cancer (rectal) but, at 6 months, started treatment for the second (breast) that they had found to…

PBS Program: FRONTLINE Facing Death
I did not know where to post this. I don't want to scare the crap out of any "newbies" on the colon cancer site so I thought I'd post it here (for now) I did not get to watch it all, I had to run out somewhere but it is viewable online at this WEBSITE. It's something we all have to face at some point.

Child to parent...when did it happen....sigh....
I had found it necessary, for her safety, to cuddle my mom into a retirement community. It is a VERY nice place, with 3 private shuttles to take her shopping, the doctor, even to entertainment events (no, I don't see my mom going to Pearl Jam any time soon...LOL!). She has all of her furniture (well, that will fit in a…

4 years ago today...
It was 4 years ago today that I first heard those 3 little words, "You have cancer". Stage III cancer, at that! What a scary thing to happen to a person without symptoms on Halloween! (Routine screening colonoscopy.) "But how could this be?" I thought. I take care of myself, eat right, don't smoke, exercise, no family…

30+ years Brain Tumor Survivor
Adding my support and encouragement :) and looking to compare notes with others like me I was diagnosed when I was 7 in 1977. It was inoperable as it was on my brainstem (Astrocytoma on floor of 4th ventricle). I had radiation treatments in late 70's, chemo in early 80's. A couple of years after stopping chemo. I was told…

Thank you
Scouty, thank you for helping to get this board up. At CP8 I had several great discussions with survivors who did not post anymore, but wanted a venue to post issues we are now facing as survivors. There were some great articles discussed regarding protecting oneself against recurrence, nutrition, exercise, and this will…
