Got my second opinion
My urolgic oncologist is wonderful, but I decided to get a second opinion on my plan of care. My UO wanted to do a 6 month scan, a 2 year scan and then a 5 year scan. Then he says "That's it! Your all done!" like I'm magically cured. I decided to see a Medical Oncologist who specializes in RCC. Being as young as I am it…

Thank you to the group
I got up in the wee hours because my back was bothing me, with additional anxiety around blood tests later this week. After 45 minutes of reading through many of your posts, I suddenly realized I hadn't thought about or felt my back in that whole time. Or been tweaked by my worry. Great feeling; great way to start the day!…

Ablation
So my consultation for my ablation is Friday. I know it's just a consult but it makes me anxious. Although my DR seems to think that this is another primary tumor it's in my remaining kidney. I just can't believe my luck. I'm trying to keep my anxiety in check. I have my yearly "woman" appt on Wednesday. Before my cancer…

Pancreatic Lesions
Diagnosed with RCC in 2014. 2cm. Partial nephrectomy. Stage 1. Contained in kidney. Just got report from most recent CT scans. 2 lesions, 5mm and 9mm appeared on pancreas. Weren't noted on previous year's MRI's. Can't see doctor for a week and a half. My understanding is that RCC very rarely spreads to pancreas. Hoping…

Can cancer develop by kidney stones?
This might be a silly question, but a friend of mine just recently had another case of kidney stones. The last time she had kidney stones, she was able to just pass it. However, this time, it wasn't passing so she actually had to get a stent implanted in here. Then a couple weeks later, was able to get it removed. She was…

Onco-Anxiety
I recently posted this as a response to a thread but think it deserves to stand alone as a Forum topic to help others feeling the same. Here is a link to a recent essay written by psychiatrist, Adam Stern MD, who is also an instructor at Harvard Medical School. He was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and eloquently…

Update
My consult went very well. I expressed my concerns about the biopsy being unsuccessful and not having answers to what we were burning out. The DR said there will be a pathologist in the room with us that will verify that we have enough to send to pathology before they continue with the ablation. That made me feel good.…

three weeks our partial nec
Hello all! I remember when I was first diagnosed and had a certain fear (as I am sure we all have gone through) and this forum was such a godsend. My lesion was caught completely at random (basically checking for a UTI, which turned out to be prostatitis) and there it was. It was so early (it was in the 2cm range) and I…

Financial Matters - health insurance
I've had a chronic disease my entire life, so I'm familiar with the importance of being financially savvy about health issues. I'm neither an insurance agent nor an attorney, but thought we all might benefit from some tips. Assumptions: You are a US citizen between the ages of 18-65, not covered by Medicare, or 18-26 not…

Shower Phobia
Because (hopefully) some of you will understand. Since my surgery, I completely HATE taking a shower and have to psyche myself up for a few minutes before I can take one. My surgery was one month ago today (2.19) and, really, considering there was a complication, I've been healing really well. But, because of that…

Should I be seeing oncologist
Hi, I had my left kidney removed due to cancer July 2016, my urologist said everything was clear. I had a 9 cm tumor, stage 2. I have only seen the urologist since surgery, he orders every 6 months CT scans, and says, see you in 6 months. Should I be seeing a specialist, my urologist is great, buy, extremely busy, and I…

Once upon a time.....
Seven years to the day, I woke up to be told, "Congratulations Mr Fox. We got it all!" Only to be told a few weeks later that I probably won't make it through the summer. But here I am. Please everyone, get second opinions. 4 cancer centers told me that they could not help me. The 5th saved my life. Good luck happens to…

Nephrectomy scheduled- feeling anxious
This is my first time posting on the boards, although I've been lurking since February. In July 2017 I thought I was having gallbladder issues. I had an ultrasound done and they discovered an atrophic right kidney (congenital, it's only 5.5 cm). My left kidney is a little larger (12.5 cm). At the bottom pole of the right…

Who would have thought - searching for information
Apologize for the length in advance- What started as hematuria and diagnosis of a UTI has turned in so much more. About two weeks ago had a strange feeling and notice blood in the urine. I work in the business office of a large medical organzation and went to our urgent care. The provider seemed concerned as I did not have…

Moderate surgery risk
I was just diagnosed less than 2 weeks ago with a 3.2x2.8 cm mass in my left kidney. I am scheduled for surgery 3/22/18. I am diabetic (type2) and have high blood pressure, and mitral valve regurg. My mass was found incidentally during an ultrasound to see why my blood pressure kept going up despite multiple meds. I was…

It's finally done
Hi all, Had my surgery on Monday. Everything is kindof a blur.... I do know that the Dr. had to clamp the artery for 27 minutes. My sister was with me and she said the Dr told her that the "fat cap" on the top of the tumor, was unaffected and was in one peice when removed with the tumor and he was very pleased about that.…
