Hello All
I'm Patty. I posted some replies on the existing threads but thought I'd drop by a hello to formally introduce myself. First of all, I wanted to thank this forum as this has provided me with some hope and answers to questions that I sometimes forget to ask to my onco. I've come to a realization to stay away from…

Repeat Offender - Different Organ
I visited this site last week in my determined quest to self-educate regarding rectal cancer. After reading some posts I decided that it would be beneficial for me to join the list. When I attempted to do so it indicated that I was already a member. Apparently I joined in 2012 when I was freaking out during my third year…

Taken off of Avastin
Little worried, husbands scan showed possible blood clot and he now has to take blood thinner meds. Because of this the Dr has removed Avastin from his chemo treatment (Folfori). Dr. said he is between a rock and a hard place and has no choice. Has anyone else been thru this and what has the outcome been? He has just…

Weird Liver Stuff and Minor CEA Question = Panic
Panic for me anyway. Not sure my doctors are worried but I am. I had my 3 year CT scan in June, where a 9 mm hypervascular lesion was noted which could be a hemangioma, but they couldn't rule out metastasis. My onc sent me for an MRI which was SUPPOSED to give us a definitive answer, but did not. Apparently the lesion is…

New Member and a Question
Hello everyone, I joined this site a few days ago and I have read some of the topics. You guys are so inspiring and brave to talk about personal battles and being there for one another. They found a malignant tumor in my sigmoid colon during my colonoscopy about 2 weeks ago. The tumor actually obstructed the camera scope…

how reliable are PET Scans?
I got the results of my PET and it showes 2 large masses in my liver. When we did a biopsy of one of the masses it came back benign, but the pet showes 2 large masses. I originally had 4-5 large masses in my liver, so is it possible to have some that are benign and some that are cancerous? what is the likely hood that…

Partial Tumor Abortion?
Everyone: This is somewhat gross, but then again, so is cancer. I am two weeks into chemo and radiation for a rectal tumor. Earlier today I passed a large tissue during a bowel movement. It clearly was not feces. Is this common? Should I be concerned or is this proof positive that the Xeloda and gamma rays are having a…

Sedation for colonoscopy
Hi everyone. I have posted my story before but wanted to mention it again to see if there is anyone else who has inputl. I was diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer in September 2016. Affirmation and positive thoughts
I've decided that not only am I praying every night- which I always did- and asking for help- which I don't usually do, I usually just ask for help for others like everyone on here or am thankful-, but I'm going to tell myself every day at least once that I'm going to beat this and tell my body to fight it off. I've been…

T2 rectal tumor
I've gone through many tests in the last 30 days, and now am waiting for surgery, my surgeon uses the DaVinci Robotic machine to aid in surgery. I have a lot of anxiety, no lymph node involvement, one more test to make sure all is still a confirmed T2 and not a T1, but same outcome is surgery since the tumor is considered…

Diagnosis Change
Another constant is change, even in cancer. According to one doctor I've got Rectal Cancer and the other is holding to Colon. At first I thought I might have two tumors but that was cleared up as it being long enough to bridge the intersection of the sigmoid colon and rectum. The next surprise came with the biopsy.…

Happiness Is CEA Drop
Last CEA test was a small uptick of about 10%. Still below being high, but the only uptick other than (a) chemo killing things and CEA going up before dropping and (b) lung met growing after chemo, following the decline in CEA for a bit following end of chemo. Today was 10% drop off of last CEA. So the uptick last time may…

Taking back 3 weeks
I got a call this morning from the scheduler to set up my next CT scan for late August. I had already spoken to my oncologist and told her I wanted to wait until after the 15th of September. She said 3 weeks wouldn't be life or death. This isn't a treatment scan. It is my 4 month "is everythig still ok" scan. So when they…

Rolled a 3
I got the official word today. The endoscopic ultrasound was done and it's stage 3 and sits right at the border of the rectum and colon. 30 mm long and 23mm wide. The doctor said since it penetrated a level of tissue in the colon that it got upgraded (As though it's a good thing). Pictures were included, as if I really…

Chemo Sux
After 11 years battling this mess, you would think that my body would be accustomed to the chemo by now but nope. It seems like each new episode with chemo is affecting my body more and more. I wonder how long it will be before I cannot tolerate it at all. I had almost forgot how crappy this stuff makes me feel but…

If your port stopped drawing...what were you told???? UPDATE!!!!!!
Hey Family! I have been told by many nurses that my port has one of the smallest work areas they have ever come across. About the size of a pencil eraser. It has worked well for over 2 years but as of about 3 months ago it quit drawing blood. No problems getting chemo put IN but nothing is coming OUT. From all comments…

Constipation
Hi there, know some of you might suffer from constipation after rectal surgery and I think I have found what helps for me: 1 large tablespoonful of olive oil mixed with one teaspoonful of lemon juice before you eat in the morning. I used to have this again about 3.30 in the afternoon but don't find it necessary now. I also…

Is it still normal to have blood stools?
I have an ileostomy. Last night my stoma was very painful and I saw blood when I drained my bag. I told myself maybe because it was because of the red velvet cake that I ate, but would it cause pain??? I'm thinking of telling my onco about it. I was also thinking if it was because I was carrying my toddler and some bags…
