Can't Get Bert to Type
Kanga, Jen...I gave up. He's just not going to do it. He's a stubborn German, what can I say. Besides, he's in San Francisco all week on business and while I hate it when he's gone, I'm just to thrilled that he feels well enough to carry on as usual. I've printed several posts for him which he will read and talk about when…

Hey guys! I just wanted to give you all a quick update on a newbie to our group... Galliano (Mike and his wife Pam) had surgery today. I spoke with Pam, and Mike's surgery was successful. He'll be in the hospital for a few days recovering, but everything is fine. His surgery was to remove the part of his liver affected…

Surgery date set
Hi all, A lots happened in the last few days. I went to the chemo doctor that I had all the problems with. Boy, what a change!!! I went to him yesterday. I prayed before he came in to the room. I don't know if God answered my prayers that fast, or if he was just having a really bad day the other time. He was as different…

6 month checkup
Its been 6 months since my surgery. I feel great. Hemoglobin is 14.5, CEA was 1.3 (which was higher than it was at the 3 month checkup .9) and liver panels were a little askew...The oncologist thinks this is because they upped the thyroid medication and we are re-checking in 4 weeks along with the thyroid levels. Could the…

Field Trip...
Greetings All! Throughout several of these postings, many of us have made references to meeting in person. So with that in mind, I guess what I'm looking for is a suggestion, vote, or opinion of who would be interested, and where this could possibly take place. The following places have been thrown on the proverbial table:…

RMGill Reply
I know I'm a little late in responding but I've taken what I like to term a small cancer hiatus as I think both patients and caregivers, I'm the later, need to do this every once in a while....living, breathing, eating and drinking cancer 24/7 is, to me, no life. That being said, I concur with several other responses you…

Questions about AP Resection
Hi all, Went to my surgeon today. Looks like the big day will be in 4-5 weeks. I tried to beg out of surgery, but no way. He did say that he could not even feel any cancer now, but the suture line is low, so colostomy for sure. He did say there was no bleeding now, which I haven't had in about 4 weeks. I just wanted to…

Chemo or Not for Stage IV rectal cancer
I was recently diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and the CAT scan showed mets on the liver and lungs. My surgeon was blunt, but still encouraging. My oncologist was very discouraging, saying all he could do is give me a few more months to live. Given the potential side effects of chemo, I'm debating whether or not to go…

Stacy...For Probably the 1000th Time
Stacy, You are the "kick butt survivor", or so I have been told by very reliable sources. I am a real newbie. Stage IV, with only one chemo treatment thus far. I was hoping you would share the basic life lessons you learned and followed to get to where you are today. I understand each and everyone is different, but I am…

How do you respond?
How do you respond when asked, how are you doing? Sometimes it is exasperating to be greeted by a co-worker, friend or family member with this question. I am curious how everyone responds, as I am sure you are all asked the same question. Thanks.

Radiofrequency Ablation
First, thanks to all who responded to my first post. Reading through a number of past posts, I now have a more optomistic outlook. My new oncologist who seems open to any and all treatments available, had me do a MRI and PET scan and wants me to see a speacilist here in Portland, OR tomorrow. He said this speacilist will…

Help! Just been diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer
My mother has just been diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer and we are terrified. She is only 69. We just lost our father to lung cancer. We just can't watch our mother go, too. She had surgery to removed the tumor, but it had attached itself to her pelvic wall and the surgeon was not able to remove it all. She also had a…

Just diagnosed
I had a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago. It revealed a large "mass" in the cecum. A week later I was in the hospital having a Hemicolectomy. It revealed that one lymphnode was malignant. Everything else was fine. He called it a "carcinoid tumor" and also told me that all my other organs looked very healthy. I'm a 38 year old male…

Honoring all Semi-colons!
Hi everyone, I received very good news today. My oncologist was shocked that my liver enzymes have almost returned to normal in just one week. He thought I would have to postpone chemo for a month, but I can start again next week. What a relief! For the Relay for Life at the end of the month, I decorated my luminary bag…
