My Mom
This has been the most rollercoaster day I have ever had and I HAVE cancer... My mother is out of surgery- 61/2 hours. The "tumor" that was blocking her colon so they couldn't do the colonoscopy? The "spread" to her bladder and ovary and lymph node? The mass on her kidney??? They were WRONG about the whole thing! She had…

Saying good bye
My lovely wife of nealy 4 years (fighter28) has passed away. She fought her cancer since December 2003 and went home with the lord yesterday June 7th at 7:30pm. She went peacefully as I held her hand and gently rested my head on her chest as she pasted. My heart is broken and the pain of her loss stings, but I know where…

genetic colon ca
Im a 23m, and just been told that I have HNPCC(hereditary nonpolyposis colon ca). I am 2.5 yrs removed surgery and chemo, with NED. My oncologist proposed a total colectomy to reduce my chance of recurrence. Has anyone else had this done, or proposed? How about dealing with an ostomy bag?

"Recurrence" in lymph node
I'm a stage IV survivor, have been reading the message boards, and am grateful to everyone who has posted encouraging messages. I wonder if anyone has experienced a recurrence in a Supraclavicular lymph node. After two years of everything going in the right direction--chemo to shrink mets in my liver and duodenum, surgery…

Adjuvant Therapy...
Greetings, It's been 3wks since my colon resection surgery and I'm happy to report that so far so good. The incision is healing up nicely, and everything seems to be in good working order. I met with my surgeon on Monday to talk in detail about his findings. After inspecting my liver he said there was no residual he could…

new update and question
Thank you to all who replied to my post below. I wanted to make a separate post because I didn't want this to get lost. Mom is in the hospital now getting the "clean out" and they are giving her massive amounts of anti-biotics. The Anesthesiologist came in and told her that she was going to be in "rough shape" after such…

Stage IV - Recurrent CC - NED
She has less than 1 year to live. That is what the doctor told my husband after my last surgery in November of 2004. And yet, here I am, CEA at 2.1, CT scan negative, PET scan negative: NED. What a glorious and humbling feeling! My journey started in Jan. 2004.A colonoscopy found stage III cancer in my colon. After colon…

elevated liver enzymes
I've had one treatment, FOLFOX plus Avastin and Panitumumab (a clinical study drug). My ALT was 256 this week, which is 500% above normal (stage 3). Has anyone else encountered this? It was elevated before chemo (150+/-), but now it's going higher. My onc is scratching his head. An MRI showed no spread of the cancer to my…

My mom will be starting these treatments on Thursday, she was through a series of treatments last year for ovarian cancer, which she didn't have, and did pretty well. An interesting fact
I am in the process of having genetic testing done at Dana Farber because I was 46 when diagnosed and there is no history of colon cancer in my family. The doctor I am seeing told me that the average age to get colon cancer in the US is 66. It seems that so many of us were so much younger when diagnosed.

Has this happened to anyone else? CEA Level question
My dad is stage IV colon cancer (diagnosed May 2002). In the past a rising CEA level for him correlated to a spot or two on his liver (cancerous). In February, his CEA was 2.8 and he had radiofrequency ablation done on the one liver spot. Since then, his CEA has been rising. Now it is 9. Back in April when his CEA was 6,…

Recurrent Rectal Cancer
Need to hear a success story from someone who is surviving recurrent rectal cancer. My husband is about to start FOLFOX7. His CEA is low, but continues to rise. Now 34. There is a "suspicious" something on his liver. Also "suspicious" in pelvic area. I am devastated and need support and encouragement.

Here we go again!
Hi all, well Scott is in the hospital again. I had to call his onc Monday afternoon because Scott could not stop vomiting. They admitted him right away. He was dehydrated and is down to 133 lbs. (he's 6ft). This is all getting so scary. He started crying in the hospital and all I could do was hold him. It's so frustrating…

anti-emetic advice?
I've just finished my first FOLFOX treatment. It went OK. No tingling-cold sensitivity yet. I have a funny jaw side effect which I believe some others have experienced (jaw spasm on first few chews or sips) but it is more strange than painful.... My biggest problem so far is nausea. They have me on a combination of Zofran…

colostomy reversal recovery time?
I'm an Irish girl caring for my Mum here in Dublin. Shes had colostomy, chemo and radiotherpy followed by a reversal in October last year. She has no quality of life since reversal surgery, severe weight loss and erratic bowel movements. Is this long enough to merit return to a colostomy or should we hope that she can…

Heart Problems
My Dad has been doing well as far as NED but we have a new concern now. He's had terrible chest pains a couple of times in the past few weeks. He got them once just from coughing, it hit him again one day in the shower and then again one time when he actually was doing something strenuous. He said that he shakes and sweats…

Relay For Life
Good Morning all. Well, I did the Relay For Life Sat. into Sunday. What a wonderful, community event to help raise funds for cancer research. We had over 1000 registered walkers. I don't have the official tally, but I know they raised over $120,000. Not bad for their first time. It was a wonderful, powerful, emotional…
