Hi my ; friends...mom's update
Hi there Semi-Colons- I thought I would check in and give you the latest on my mother. She is to be admitted tomorrow for a "clean out" and then the surgery is first thing Friday morning. She has met with the surgeon and a urologist. It seems like the cancer has gone from the colon to the ovary, bladder, lymph nodes and…

elevated liver enzymes
I've had one treatment, FOLFOX plus Avastin and Panitumumab (a clinical study drug). My ALT was 256 this week, which is 500% above normal (stage 3). Has anyone else encountered this? It was elevated before chemo (150+/-), but now it's going higher. My onc is scratching his head. An MRI showed no spread of the cancer to my…

Update on Scott
Hi friends, hope everyone is well. Scott is still in the hospital. They are hoping he can come home tomorrow. He's was still vomiting up until Tuesday. He says he's eaten some and hasn't vomited and even had a small bowel movement. Now his right hand up to his elbow is numb. A neurologist saw him yesterday and can't figure…

oxaliplatin, xeloda & Avastin
My mom will be starting these treatments on Thursday, she was through a series of treatments last year for ovarian cancer, which she didn't have, and did pretty well. She has been taking vitamin B6 since then and while she was on xeloda waiting for a proper dianosis, anyway I was wondering if there is anything she could…

An interesting fact
I am in the process of having genetic testing done at Dana Farber because I was 46 when diagnosed and there is no history of colon cancer in my family. The doctor I am seeing told me that the average age to get colon cancer in the US is 66. It seems that so many of us were so much younger when diagnosed.

Has this happened to anyone else? CEA Level question
My dad is stage IV colon cancer (diagnosed May 2002). In the past a rising CEA level for him correlated to a spot or two on his liver (cancerous). In February, his CEA was 2.8 and he had radiofrequency ablation done on the one liver spot. Since then, his CEA has been rising. Now it is 9. Back in April when his CEA was 6,…

Recurrent Rectal Cancer
Need to hear a success story from someone who is surviving recurrent rectal cancer. My husband is about to start FOLFOX7. His CEA is low, but continues to rise. Now 34. There is a "suspicious" something on his liver. Also "suspicious" in pelvic area. I am devastated and need support and encouragement.

Here we go again!
Hi all, well Scott is in the hospital again. I had to call his onc Monday afternoon because Scott could not stop vomiting. They admitted him right away. He was dehydrated and is down to 133 lbs. (he's 6ft). This is all getting so scary. He started crying in the hospital and all I could do was hold him. It's so frustrating…

anti-emetic advice?
I've just finished my first FOLFOX treatment. It went OK. No tingling-cold sensitivity yet. I have a funny jaw side effect which I believe some others have experienced (jaw spasm on first few chews or sips) but it is more strange than painful.... My biggest problem so far is nausea. They have me on a combination of Zofran…

colostomy reversal recovery time?
I'm an Irish girl caring for my Mum here in Dublin. Shes had colostomy, chemo and radiotherpy followed by a reversal in October last year. She has no quality of life since reversal surgery, severe weight loss and erratic bowel movements. Is this long enough to merit return to a colostomy or should we hope that she can…

Heart Problems
My Dad has been doing well as far as NED but we have a new concern now. He's had terrible chest pains a couple of times in the past few weeks. He got them once just from coughing, it hit him again one day in the shower and then again one time when he actually was doing something strenuous. He said that he shakes and sweats…

Relay For Life
Good Morning all. Well, I did the Relay For Life Sat. into Sunday. What a wonderful, community event to help raise funds for cancer research. We had over 1000 registered walkers. I don't have the official tally, but I know they raised over $120,000. Not bad for their first time. It was a wonderful, powerful, emotional…

Sharing
Hi all, It's a real coincidence that I have been asked to go to a church near me and give my testimony that I gave at my church when I had my birthday in March. Some Cheering Up
Hi all, So, it was a pretty **** day. The good news is that my ultrasound shows NED and my spinal X-Rays shows bone degeneration and loss, but no lesions. But, my oncologist is flat-out worried about the CT because of my rising CEA (doing scan tomorrow and results will be in next week). He thinks, or knows, the Avastin is…
